Writing Assignment:
Describe and discuss the impact of Humanism upon the development of Greek Theater during the Golden Age of Athens.
Be sure to reference at least one specific example (primary source) of a play(s) and playwright(s), to illustrate your conclusions. You must discuss, in detail, the historical context of theater and the play(s) you chose.
Tip:
Homer did not write plays. Do not use The Iliad or The Odyssey or The Epic of Gilgamesh, etc. Those are poems. Also, don't write about Plato or Socrates. The Dialogues and the Republic were part of the philosophical teachings of the two great thinkers.
Chose a play/playwright from your textbook, such as those written my Aeschylus, Sophocles, or Euripides. If you want to write about comedy instead of tragedy, then use Aristophanes. Plays to consider-Agamemnon, Antigone, Oedipus Rex, The Trojan Women, etc.
