Leadership, Information Systems, and E-Commerce Discussion Questions

Welcome to the last week of your course. In this discussion question, you have the opportunity to be creative and to relate what you have learned to your professional lives. Please explore and critically think about some of the learning outcomes and concepts presented in this course. Please effectively communicate how you would lead an organization (or a group of people within the organization) by applying the knowledge you have learned ethically and responsibly. Your discussion should also include innovative thinking, and information-technology aspects (such as the Internet, social-media, computers, and so forth) that may assist you in decision-making. You may frame your discussion around any functional component of an organization, and in any context; problem-solving, management, leadership, organizational behavior, and so forth.

1. How do companies involved with successful Information Systems benefit? Give some specific examples demonstrating competitive advantage.

2. Using your textbook, LIRN-based research, and the Internet, investigate a company that moved from just a brick-and-mortar structure to a formidable online business. Identify how Information Systems helped them make a smooth transition to an online presence and compete on the global stage.

3. What specific measures were taken by the company to ensure security, privacy, and ethical practices? How do these measures work? Provide some examples.

4. Discuss the four business decisions that companies must make when they acquire new applications.

5. Identify the three major types of controls that organizations can use to protect their information resources and provide an example of each one

6. Identify components of a contingency plan that all e-commerce businesses should employ, stating your rational for each component with industry examples.
