CPCCBC4010B - Assessment Task 2.0 - Practical Task 2.2 - DEMOLITION PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION This task should be completed in pairs. Assessment for this task will be a combination of observation and questioning of students whilst carrying out the activity and the submission of the written work from the tasks. The photos on the following pages shows an existing fire damaged building where you will be carrying out a demolition to prepare the site for a new construction project. Drawing 15808_8_1 provides some additional information about the structure and the site. Review the images and drawings and produce a Demolition Plan for the removal of the structure then using the plan, interview the demolition contractor to brief them on the project. The Demolition Plan development can be commenced during the formal sessions and then completed outside of the formal training environment. The interview will be carried out as a role play in a simulated builder office environment during the scheduled training sessions. The Demolition Plan should include: 2.2.1. Identification and use of Legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice that govern the demolition of the structure. 2.2.2. A detailed description of the type of structure including structural elements of walls, roof and windows. 2.2.3.A detailed scope of demolition for the project. 2.2.4. A checklist of items required to be completed prior to the demolition. 2.2.5. Identifying what technique would be used for the demolition and why. 2.2.6. The sequence of the demolition including the start point and end point. 2.2.7. Where the drop zones would be (indicated on the drawing). 2.2.8. Where hoardings, fencing and shoring maybe used. 2.2.9. Other safety precautions you may take. 2.2.10.Discuss what additional items would need to be taken into account if this were a commercial building rather than a residence. On completion of the plan, you are to carry out a briefing meeting with the demolition contractor to implement the demolition component of the project. The meeting will include a full briefing of the requirements and process and including answering questions from the demolition contractor for clarification of the project requirements and asking questions of the demolition contractor to ensure understanding of the project requirements. The meeting will be carried out as a role play in a simulated builder’s office environment and observed by your trainer. Your trainers will ask questions about the processes being undertaking in this activity to confirm your understanding. Task 2.2 should take approximately 120 minutes. Following the Building Deconstruction Regulations of Australia, the bungalow structure as determined by the client is demolished. The structure in question is a low-house bungalow made primarily of brick stone and has a damaged roof made of timber trusses. The house is surrounded by a wire-messed structure on the outside and its roof appears to be recently destroyed by a fire. In light of this, the structure will be demolished in accordance with the legislation policies adopted by the Australian Government. The local government and council will be particularly important for this project as it will provide the necessary regulations on areas of waste disposal, demolition methods, recycling and provision of a legal permit (Liu et. Al. 2009). The regulations are documented under the Building codes of Australia which was brought forth by the Commonwealth Government (Liu et. Al., 2009)

The structure is a simple residential house and to effectively demolish the structure, all the materials that are embodied in its structure are identified. The building is basically made of brick walls, with a brick-roof structure supported by timber trusses and members. Also, the structure has glass window panels that are held by steel components. Finally, a ply-wood ceiling stand covers the interior of the building with a concrete floor.

In light of this, the most effective method of demolition is the manual method whereby hand-held equipment such as sledge-hammers, jack-hammers, and picks will be usable. In addition, waste transportation equipment such as wheelbarrows or fork-lift will be needed to transport the demolished material to the damping site provided by the Local Council (Tam, 2014).
