Auditing Reversals of Accounting Documents with SAP ERP and Tableau

Tasks

Tasks

You are an auditor of GBI USA, and you are required to examine the reversals of accounting documents posted during current year.

1. Extract two sets of data from SAP ERP, and export them as two separate Excel files:

a) Reversal documents with details b) G/L accounts with English descriptions Please refer to the SAP Query lab handout for detailed instructions. No print-out submission is required for this step.

2. Import the two Excel data sets (as they are) into Tableau, in the order of (a) followed by (b), and combine them into one data set. You will work on this combined data set for the visualization tasks below. You are NOT supposed to use Excel to manipulate, edit, filter or “clean” the data before importing them into Tableau. The data from SAP should be imported in their original state and any data manipulation has to be done entirely in Tableau. No print-out submission is required for this step.

3. You wish to examine individuals who have made large sums of reversal postings (in total) during 2018. On a new sheet, generate a bar graph to show the list of individuals who have posted reversals for all accounts with total amounts equal or greater than $50,000. As a well-trained accounting professional, you are aware that each journal consists of debit items and credit items which fully offset each other. When computing the total amounts reversed, avoid double-counting

Take a screenshot of the Tableau window displayed in this sheet. Wherever applicable, your screenshot should include the settings of the filters, columns, rows, marks etc.). Paste this screenshot into a Word document and label it Report 1.

4. You also wish to examine individuals who have posted multiple reversals during 2018. On a new sheet, replicate the graph generated earlier and superimpose the number of reversals these users have posted. In your final graph, you should be able to visualize the users who have posted reversals with total amounts equal or greater than $50,000 and the number of reversals they have posted.

Take a screenshot of the Tableau window displayed in this sheet. Wherever applicable, your screenshot should include the settings of the filters, columns, rows, marks etc.). Paste this screenshot into the Word document and label it Report 2.

5. You wish to examine the G/L accounts involved, and the amounts posted to them, in these reversals. On a new sheet, generate a graph to visualize the G/L accounts (with their long texts) posted with total amounts equal or greater than $50,000, superimposed with the number of reversals they were posted in

Take a screenshot of the Tableau window displayed in this sheet. Wherever applicable, your screenshot should include the settings of the filters, columns, rows, marks etc.). Paste this screenshot into the Word document and label it Report 3.

6. You wish to examine if the reversals have any relationships timing wise. On a new sheet, generate a histogram that summarizes the number of reversals by Day and Month.

Take a screenshot of the Tableau window displayed in this sheet. Wherever applicable, your screenshot should include the settings of the filters, columns, rows, marks etc.). Paste this screenshot into the Word document and label it Report 4.
