1) Create a self-portrait or personal visual memory in any media (drawing, painting, cartoon, or sculpture). Digitally photograph or scan your work for upload to Blackboard and also include a 1 paragraph descriptive visual analysis describing the visual composition of the elements and principles most visible in the image.
2) Using a camera and the sequential concepts of Cubism create a photomontage. Take 12 to 24 images of yourself, someone else or a single subject from multiple views. Arrange the images, cutting and trimming where necessary, into a single overlapping, visually unified image. Gluestick your work to an 8”x11” piece of paper or paperboard. Digitally photograph or scan your work for upload to Blackboard and also include a 1 paragraph descriptive visual analysis describing the visual composition of the elements and principles most visible in the image.
3) Use a digital camera and Powerpoint or Google Slides to create 12 to 24 frame/scene original photostory which includes an introduction, highpoint, twist, and conclusion. Include descriptions of each scene. Save your final work as a pdf for upload to Blackboard and also include a 1 paragraph descriptive visual analysis describing the visual composition of the elements and principles most visible in the photostory.
4) Use a graphic composition software such as MS Paint, or Pixlr Editor to create a non- objective, abstract image. Save your image as a jpeg or png image for upload to Blackboard. Include a brief summary describing which elements and principles of composition are present in your image.
5) Choose a theme of your choice (such as beauty, responsibility, charity..etc.) and create a photomontage using torn and cut images from magazines and newspapers. Secure your work to an 8x11 piece of cardboard. Digitally photograph or scan your work for upload to Blackboard and also include a 1 paragraph descriptive visual analysis describing the visual composition of the elements and principles most visible in the image.
6) Take a field trip to some large shopping of department store and write a one-page visual analysis of your experience. Describe how the elements and principles of art are employed in the arrangement of floor and shelf space. Try to specifically describe your entire field trip in terms of what you see, smell and hear. Explain what really stands out in this shopping environment and why you think it attracts you.
7) Pick a television show, movie or commercial and then in a one-page reaction which discusses what type of visual symbols are used to try to connect to and communicate with the audience? Does the work speak only to a particular audience? If so please describe how.
8) Pick a commercial product and the complete a one page form vs. function analysis. Answer the question of what the product is and what does it literally do. Next then describe the form or visual design of the product. How have advertisers and designers shaped this product to appeal to the public? Please include a digital image of the product.
9) Visually analyze the architectural structure, function, style, and materials of a building either on campus or in your local community. Describe your finds in a one-page summary.
10) Make a digital photograph of a local landscape scene you enjoy. Use a photo filter to change the color scheme of the photograph. Write a 1 paragraph descriptive visual analysis describing the visual composition of the elements and principles most visible in the image.
