Write a report about changes to laws, regulations, and civil engineering practice arising from a civil engineering failure within the United States in your area of civil engineering. Choose a failure that occurred (or was recognized) in the last fifty years ago but not less than three years ago. Examples of civil engineering failures are provided in a list below. If you choose a topic not included in the list below, confirm your project topic choice will be viable with your instructor before beginning substantial work on the assignment and not later than the topic selection due date shown in Table 1. Choose a unique topic different from anyone else in the class.
Report Organization and Formatting RequirementsIn your report include a “Background” section in which you recount the civil engineering failure, making sure to describe the timeline of events. Also include an “Investigations” section where you summarize and critique investigations into the failure, their explanations for why the failure occurred (or is still occurring) and their recommendations for changes. Describe changes to laws, regulations, and civil engineering practice arising from the failure and discuss their impact using whatever subject headings you choose. Also, discuss the extent to which recommendations from investigations into the failure have been addressed and what is still left to be done. Create at least two tables or figures to present your findings. Include the following standard components of a technical report: Title Page, Executive Summary, Table of Contents, Conclusions, and References. Cite all information that is not common knowledge using IEEE format for in-text citations and the references list. The required word count is 3000 words minimum not including the table of contents, lists of figures and tables (optional), figure and tables, or reference list. Use single-spaced text.
