General Question: Why are Ivy League schools so inclined to admit those students from affluent families rather than a student who comes from less means, but with stellar academic achievement? Tentative Thesis: What are the main issues of why ivy league school do not admit students who come from a family of lesser means? The socioeconomic status and diversity to make universities and colleges more inclusive. Due to the percentage rates of how affluent families make up 83% of the top university population compared to the 17% which could come from middle or low income families. Why are students feeling so much pressure that they have to attend the best university, the best degree and why can’t the process of applying to universities become easier. Specific questions to be answered: • What is the admission process? • How selective are colleges and universities when it comes to admitting students from lesser means? • What is being done to change the policies and to provide economic support? • Why does Ivy League schools receive the highest amount of financial aid to be awarded to students? • The disadvantages of students attending a community college vs. a top university? • How likely are students to attend a major university if they do no get accepted to their university of choice? • How are admission officers encouraging high achieving low income students to apply? • How are universities making socioeconomic diversity a priority
