Developing a Logic-based Programming Application for Blood Pressure Reduction in Hospitals
Answered

Via MS Excel develop a logic-based programming application. Please use the data in Excel spreadsheet you used in Module 9. Each line in the attached file represents one patient treated at the hospital. You may assume that there is only one type of hospital (i.e., Methodist, Catholic, etc.) within each county within each state. Assume that a drop in blood pressure is “good”. As one can easily see, some hospitals have a greater average blood pressure drop than others. You have a Blood Pressure Reduction Team (BPRT) of physicians and nurse practitioners that can provide education to the existing medical professionals at each hospital.

Results indicate that the BPRT through improved practice and education can reduce blood pressure at these failing hospitals. You have a total of “x” hours of BPRT resources available. Develop a logic-based programming application (one button) that will: Analyze the data to determine those hospitals that have less than an x% reduction in blood pressure (averaged across all patients treated within that specific hospital). Your program should provide a list of these hospitals. I will type in the percentage in cell “C17” and then strike your command button to view the results. Via any technique you so choose, allocate “x” hours of (BPRT) resources to the hospitals that have less than an x% reduction in blood pressure. I will type the resource hours available in cell “C18” and then strike your command button to view the results.

Your program should provide a list of these hospitals along with the BPRT resource allocation. Please provide a ½ page description of the resource allocation model you defined and applied. Please submit the following files: Excel file containing your program A Word document describing the resource allocation model you have chosen to implement (just one paragraph or flow chart is sufficient) In the same Word document, comment on how you will use this technique in your professional career development (i.e., describe any problem you have dealt with in the past or plan to in the future, how can logic based programming provide knowledge as opposed to other more traditional techniques).
