To “prove” that your revisions have improved your overall argument, you will write an essay (minimum 5 ¶s) arguing just that—and your evidence will be your own revised writing, quoted and explained. Explaining why I would keep what I wrote or why I would rewrite it or why I kept it. The bolded letters are the teachers comments book is based on Men explained things to me by Rebecca Solnit and writing logically thinking critically by sheila cooper 8th edition . Can you help me make it sound better or why i shouldnt rewrite it? Hi, I wrote my essay. The bold marks are what the teacher feels I need to adjust and the red highlighted marks are his comments. Can you please help? Thanks in advance. The never-ending abuse As women we do not really notice the abuse that happens on a daily basis. We are very aware that it does exists.
Sometimes when the numbers of abuse are presented to our attention it is when we realize that it is a bigger problem than just in our surroundings. Some of the abuse that occurs makes it to the news while the others do not even make it to light. In Rebecca Solnit's book "Men explain things to me" she states that "Here in the United States, where there is a reported rape every 6.2 minutes, and one in five women will be raped in her lifetime." (p.19) These numbers might not seem high but reading the chapter more in depth so many assaults occur some are far away from you and other cases are so close to home.(TEACHERS COMMENTS: try not to put your experience working into the text at the center of your it should go without saying that you read in depth) There are always stories about abuse that happens of busses.
In the book it describes the New Delhi rape cases that some escalate to murder. I do like the quote Solnit "Violence doesn't have a race, a class, a religion or a nationality, but it does have a gender." (TEACHERS COMMENTS: This is kind of jumping around...it feels like notes you were compiling toward writing the essay.) (teachers comment in bold) Men do also suffer and become victims, but the majority of crimes are women. Mostly done by partners it usually starts with physical abuse that leads on to their death. With the rape happening every 6.2 minutes, many young women in high school and college become this statistic. It is heartbreaking when you hear children who are abused and murdered.
To not being able to help these helpless children makes you want to protect all children. In the online article "California sees steep drop in reports of child abuse since school campuses closed" in 2020 between the months of April and August the reporting cases dropped by 28% and those were cases compared to the same months in 2019. Because the schools in California have been majority closed the teachers that make up a large part of the reporting people of 20%. Have not been able to see the students in person other than virtually. On the other hand, there is an online article "2 women who say they were sexually abused as students at Cold Spring Harbor HS file lawsuit." This goes back to the never-ending abuse. These two women are stating that they were abused when they were in high school in the 1970s and 1980s around the age of fourteen. They were targeted by men who felt they had the power by being high school teachers.
Teachers comment: This is good info, but I think it can be framed more effectively: your claim should be that the pandemic has made Solnit's book even more relevant. I think you could expand on this logic that there is a lot going on in lockdown situations that we should try to change. How can I frame it more effectively ? (me) It does not just end there, on page 22 Solnit states "We could talk about the escalating pandemic of rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment in the US military". Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta estimated nineteen thousand sexual assaults on fellow soldiers in 2010 and a great majority of assailants got away with it. In an online article between the years 2015-2019 there were more than 40,000 incidents of domestic abuse. These women go and sign up into the military wanting to help keep our country safe and they must fight a war within their own home with pretty much their own family. These numbers are growing every day these women are not being protected and being treated more as targets. Thanks to social media there are more cases being exposed and being brought to light for example Vanessa Guillen's story.
The army base in Fort Hood, Texas was exposed due to not reporting Vanessa missing and she was targeted by a fellow male soldier. One major issue that is caused from the abuse is that no woman should have to live with a reminder of the torture she had to experience. There are so many types of abuse from the domestic violence, sexual harassment, stalking, date rape, acquaintance rape or martial rape. For our own politicians to be pro rape amazes me. Solnit states "Senate candidate Richard Mourdock claimed that rape pregnancies were "a gift from God." (p.31) As a woman I cannot feel safe in my own country if they are politicians trying to be in charge of our country to have that sort of mentality. To refuse to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act because they object the protection it gave immigrants, transgender women, and Native American women. (teachers comment as with a lot of the in this essay, you're covering Solnit's ground a bit too much and not going out on your own to prove her relevance to your experience What cani do to fix the above part?
the bolded letters are what i wrote and his comment is towards that sentence This is a point on how all women are targets to any form of abuse available out there. Female disappearance is also a huge never ending situation where the woman ends up dead in domestic violence disputes. Solnit states "A significant portion of the women you know are survivors." (p.22) those stories are always great to hear about because those women have a long road to recovery. Then there are those women who are not survivors. Women who are killed and cooked by their husband or a girlfriend killed, dismembered and cooked.
