Consider and elaborate upon the idea that television creates a uniformity of experience (the idea that things we have Not experienced MUST resemble those things we Have experienced) and often stands in for experience itself. In what ways do you think television acts as cultural nerve gas?
Do you think television can broaden your own personal experience, or do you agree that television narrows and deadens your experience? In a two-to-three-page essay essay, explain and analyze the ways in which television affects how You experience and interact with the world.
When I say television. I do Not mean news programming, documentaries or educational programming. The prompt is referring Only to movies, drama series, sitcoms, etc. This can be from streaming services like Netflix, Prime, Hulu and others or from the many television stations offered through mainstream networks or from cable.
Essay Guidelines:
• Your essay Must end somewhere in the third page. Nothing less than two full pages.
• Format your essay according to MLA style guidelines. Refer to the MLA formatting link at the bottom of the Course Content page for a sample and explanation of MLA formatting.
• Work toward having a central theme in your essay, Keep in mind that the main point is how television affects Your experience. If there is a moral to your reasoning, it should come through. If there is a lesson to be learned, relate it to your audience.
• Be detailed and include specific examples from your experience.
• Be descriptive with your writing. Use adverbs and adjectives to add color to your writing. Work on the five senses (sight, smell, sound, taste and touch) as best you can.
• Add figurative language throughout your narrative. There is a handout available in Blackboard on figurativeb language.
• Your essay should be a combination of several paragraphs. Avoid by all means one big, block paragraph.
• Proofread and edit your essay slowly and carefully before submission, looking for and correcting surface errors that interrupt the flow of the essay.
