Use the Week 1 Assignment Template to outline a brief paragraph about your lesson ideas for each week. Consider writing the objective for that week in the paragraph. For example, the reading lesson idea might say:
Â
The targeted reading lesson for the English learners will be finding the main idea using our Table Graphic Organizer. Finding the main idea supports this week's standard and the ELs need additional help to learn this concept. We will also work on key details to support the main idea. The goal or objective is for the student to be able to identify the main idea and at least 2 key supporting details. In the next column of the template, include differentiation strategies and supports you would implement in each weekâs assignment to provide quality instruction for students at all levels. Identify at least 1 differentiation strategy and 1 support for each lesson.
Â
Consider reviewing this weekâs readings from 50 Strategies for Teaching English Language Learners as a resource. Write a brief rationale for the strategy and the support you listed. For example, in the reading lesson above, a differentiated strategy would be a simplified text for my pre-emergent/emergent level students. Pre-emergent students have very limited English, and so I would provide a very simplified version of the text with visuals and graphics for better comprehension. I would also read aloud the text followed by chorale reading with the students.

Select one elementary grade level (K-5) to focus your weekly lessons on. Identify the grade level in the area above the chart. Look ahead and review each weekâs assignment:
Week 2 â Targeted Instruction Lesson: Reading (What reading skill will you target?)
Week 3 â Integrated Instruction Lesson: Social Studies (What is the theme or topic?)
Week 4 â Targeted Instruction Lesson: Writing (What type of writing or writing skill?)
Week 5 â Integrated Instruction Lesson: Science or Math (What Science topic or Math skill will you target?) Week 6 â Targeted Instruction Lesson: Vocabulary (What content area or Tier II words will you target?) A support would be the read aloud but I would also provide the Table Graphic Organizer with framed sentences like The main idea of the text is ___________________. A key detail to support the main idea is _______________. As we re-read the text, we would work together to highlight key details and co-create a word box or phrase box of key details we found. This word box can serve as a language support for the pre-emergent students as they work on the Table Graphic Organizer.
