Neocolonialism is dangerous and toxic for any kind of societal progress because it is the trend by which the people of the most advanced and progressive society subtly starts disregarding the values of equality, brotherhood and fraternity and encourages evils of society such as discrimination, bigotry and chauvinism (Bockman 2015). Neocolonialism can also be blamed for the killing motives mentioned in the essay and the scapegoating of Karen Wood. Neocolonialism is a sense of social imbalance which disrupts the whole society and collective consciousness of people slowly but steadily, making the society a decadent one with absolutely no hope of any improvement, progress and proliferation. It reassures the people present in the society of the bigotry and supremacy of a particular class which brings forth class distinction, colorism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia and the like societal disgrace into action but in an institutionalized way. Throughout the essay, instances of victim blaming of Karen is observed. She has been blamed for going out alone in the hunting season, for not wearing neon orange to stand out not as a deer and victim blaming her only for the sake of it that she was a “victim”, thus showing the lack of empathy among the people of the society.
