Substance Treatment: Specialized Knowledge about Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse

Scope of the Problem

The purpose of this paper is to provide students an opportunity to develop specialized knowledge about a particular area of substance treatment. The paper should be 4 pages in length. The grading rubric for this assignment is at the end of the syllabus. 

Pick an area of interest to you. Topics domestic violence and substance abuse o Address the following in the paper:

Clearly define the population, scope of the problem. Use scholarly journals to provide recent research findings related to this topic.

Make sure you give information about statistics, symptoms, impacts to society, etc. to name a few. In other words, this should be very detailed so that the reader will understand the scope of this problem.

Q1. Discuss why the identified problem or population is important. What impact does it have on our society? Be specific – give examples – cite research.

Q2. Discuss unique issues related to this population such as problems with diagnosis, ethical issues, cultural issues, or special family concerns.

Q3. Discuss issues concerning treatment and prevention.

Include in your discussion at least two ideas for addressing or preventing this drug abuse issue in our society.

You should clearly explain and develop your ideas with good detail and specifics. You should use at least three reliable, academic resources other than your textbook to support your paper. You can use journal articles, books, documentaries, TV news programs, newspaper articles, videos, websites (Not Wikipedia or .com websites – use .org or .net or .gov websites primarily), or any other valid resource. If you are not sure if a particular resource is valid – ask me. Your paper should be well written – avoid spelling, grammar, and typographical errors. Proofread carefully! Make sure you include in-text citations to show what information you got from which of your resources to support your paper and a reference page in APA format with your paper.
