The Deakin University Centre for Film and Image will be hosting the Asian Film Festivals this year. DUCFI is collaboration of the Deakin University, government and industry run by Professor Charles Cheryble. In order to promote the Centre’s community engagement activities in 2019 DUCFI has been decided to put on the Asian Film Festival. The event will be graced by Peg Sliderskew who is the Minister for Federal Arts. Mr. Sliderskew will have the honor of opening the festivals with a short speech.
The event is set to take place at the Burwood Campus in Melbourne on Sunday 10th March 2019 from 9 am up to 10 p.m.
This festival is an important event as it will cover topics environmental issues, lives of people living in villages that are in remote places and artists who create art decorations by recycling waste materials. These special documentaries will be presented by students from Deakin University Film and Image students and students at Universities in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore and China as they have collaborated to work together.
As the Minister for Arts said, “The Centre for Moving Images project is incredibly exciting. Our government believes that Deakin University will in years to come be a focus for movie makers not only in Australia, but also worldwide.” Therefore, this project of Centre for Moving Arts will be showcased. It is a project of collaboration of DUCFII and the Asian Academy of Film and Television (AAFT) located in India's Noida Film City NCR New Delhi. Theatre performances will be performed by the University Amateur Dramatics Group.
Promotion of local produce, sporting, and arts opportunities in stalls will also be there at Deakin University as a platform to create strong ties between the university and community through a first time step of Deakin University’s project called A Year of Community.

University of Deakin set to hold this year’s event
WHAT: The Deakin University will host the Asian Film Festivals to promote good relationship with the community, other Universities and the government. The event will be graced by the Minister for Arts Mr. Peg Sliderskaw. Mr. Sliderskaw will give the opening speech on this particular day. He will also continue with the launching of the $25 million Deakin University Centre for Moving Images, a joint project of DUCFII and Asian Academy of Film and Television located in India's Noida Film City.
WHY: Our community deserves the best for their support (Puvimanasinghe et al, 2014, p, 313-321). That is why during this year festival, the Deakin University will launch a project called “A Year of Community”. This project will promote local produce, sporting, and arts opportunities therefore building ties with the local community.
Short documentaries on environment, life in remote villages and artists who use recycled materials to create works of art will also be showcased during this event. These documentaries are made through collaboration between Deakin University Film and Image students and students at Universities in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore and China.
It will be a great day for the university, society and the media.

The event will take place at Burwood campus, Melbourne and the special guest in attendance will be the Minister for Arts Mr. Peg Sliderskaw. Local Produce, Sporting, and Arts Opportunities Showcased
As the Deakin University Media Relations Officer, I understand that this will be a big event for media houses as it will cover the long awaited project of $25 million Deakin University Centre for Moving Images, joint project of DUCFII and Asian Academy of Film and Television located in India's Noida Film City.
On this particular day also, the university will launch the project called “A Year of Community” that will promote local produce, sporting, and arts opportunities. I cannot also forget about the documentaries of environment, lives in remote areas and artists who recycle waste materials into beautiful arts which will be showcased. These documentaries are collaboration between Deakin University Film and Image students and students at Universities in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore and China.

Deakin University came into existence in the year 1974.The university is named after the second Prime Minister of Australia Alfred Deakin (Martek, 2016, p, 97-114). Its campuses are in Melbourne's Burwood suburb, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront and Warrnambool and online Cloud Campus. Deakin also has learning centers in Dandenong, Craigieburn and Werribee and all State of Victoria. It was the forth university in Victoria and the first to specialize in distant learning.
Deakin has partnered with communities, industries, businesses, other universities and internationally to enhance their students to get the best education. These partnerships also help Deakin University to turn research into something beneficial therefore producing world class graduates. These graduates in turn help in community developments.
Deakin is one of the fastest growing research facilities with 89% of its research considered world class (Marsh et al, 2012, p, 83-93, Jones et al, 2013, p, 43-66).the university has four research institutes: Alfred Deakin Institute (ADI), Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM), Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI) and the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN). There are also 13 strategic research centers (McLaren, 2015, p, 25-36). It was rated above the world standard in 2015 ERA ratings. To enhance research, there is a library called the Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial Library named after the second Prime Minister (McKnight, 2005).
Theatre Performances by University Amateur Dramatics Group
The university was ranked 45th in the World among the top Universities under 50 years old. In the years 2009, 2013 and 2015, the Graduate Management of Australia awarded maximum score of five stars, placing them in the top rank of Australia's MBA courses (van Vught &Westerheijden, 2010, p, 1-26, Holmes, 2006, p,1-14, Perkins & Neumaye, 2014, p, 246-259 Williams & Van and Dyke, 2007, p, 819-841).
Deakin University is internationally recognized for research and its teaching. The courses curriculum integrates real-world expertise with practical skills to give our students the best services.
