The nature, process and strategy of business research
In the learning process, I was being told that before carrying out the research, I should fix a strategy based on which I should carry out the work. The idea of setting a strategy before starting a work has helped me in my life I general. I should set a strategy before starting a new work (Mackey and Gass 2015). For the present research as well, I have set the objectives first and then followed a proper process of carrying out a descriptive research design, setting a proper number of population before starting the work, decide on the sampling techniques of the research, decide on the way to collect the data and finally the data analysis.
In the starting of the learning process, the first thing I was being told is that while carrying out the research, we should narrow down the topic rather than carrying out the research as it will be difficult to carry out the research on a broad topic (Flick 2015). I have used the knowledge in the present paper as well and decided on the topic ‘to establish the main factors that affect mortgage rates in Australia’. The business research has been hugely beneficial for the learning process as while carrying out the research. Based on the research, I have planned the objectives and the most suitable design for the research.
The learning experience for knowing the importance of literature review and the business research was good. The experience holds value to me, as I know the way to construct a literature review and the reason behind putting it in the research paper. I can apply the knowledge I have gained in future while writing a research paper. In the learning process, I was taught that the literature review works as an introduction for the readers to the subject on which the research is being carried out (Silverman 2016). Business research has been helpful in writing the research paper as I have learnt the way to construct a proper research paper. I have covered all the aspects of mortgage in the literature review section so that proper idea regarding mortgage could be achieved before starting with the primary research.
While learning about ethics I came face-to-face with new area of research. In the entire learning process, I came to know the way the researchers should maintain the ethics so that they do not get into trouble (Vaioleti 2016). The learning process has been helpful for me in the course and in the program, as from now on I will be doing the work by keeping in mind the legal issues so that I do not land into any trouble. While carrying out the research on mortgage in Australia, I had to do extensive research and hence, had to go through a number of online sites. I had made sure that I do not use any unethical means to carry out the research work.
Just deciding on the strategy would not help in proper completion of the research work is something that I learnt in the learning process (Panneerselvam 2014). The way of sampling and observing the participants are some of the major aspects of the research. For the present research, the managers, I have taken care of participant observation and framed the questionnaire in such a manner so that they are interested in taking the interview for the completion of the research work. I have taken the help of probability sampling while retrieving the secondary data and non-probability sampling while getting the primary data.
The learning process taught me that while carrying out the research work, I should not only focus on the topic but also on the group on which the research is being focused (Gast and Ledford 2014). Focusing on the group also helped me in different decisions of my life. As the research is mainly based on the mortgage rates, hence, I focused on the managers. They will be able to tell about the mortgage rates in a better manner. The questions for the managers were not kept lengthy so that they do not lose interest in the project.
The learning process has thrown considerable amount of light on the usage of qualitative analysis. It has been useful for me, as I have done the research in detail. In the learning process, we were being taught about the qualitative analysis and the exact method of doing that. Qualitative analysis is not only about incorporating data but also put them in the correct manner (Tarone, Gass and Cohen 2013). There should be a link between the data so that the reader who is reading the paper should be able to understand the data. in the assessment as well, the questionnaires have been sent to the managers so that they are able to talk about the subject and enrich the paper.
The learning process has helped me in getting an understanding of the types of sampling that are required to carry out the work especially when I am doing a quantitative research. I have learnt that while doing a quantitative research, I should do random probability sampling so that I can get an unbiased reply on the topic on which I am carrying out the research work (Billig and Waterman 2014). The quantitative research has not been of much help to me in the present research as the research is mainly dependent on the qualitative research.
The learning process has taught me that the interview should be structured properly and the questions should be linked with each other while carrying out a research work. The questions that are used for the research work should be structure in such a manner so that proper conclusion could be reached by interviewing the participants (Reynolds et al. 2014). If the questions were not aligned with the topic of the research then the research would not yield proper result. For the present research as well, the questionnaires for the managers are framed in such a manner so that they are interested in giving the interview. if the managers are not interested in giving the interview then it will hamper the quality of the research.
The learning process will be helpful for me as it not only taught me new things but also taught me the way to observe. The learning process has helped me to observe the contents and the participants in the future of the program. I should keep a check on the behavior of the participants who are taking part in the research work (Mansell 2015). The business research has been further helpful in the learning process as I got the opportunity to observe the participants. In the research project, I have been taught that the observations of the participants are important to see that they are interested in the interview.
While in the learning process, we were being taught about quantitative analysis with the secondary data. Until that time, I had no idea about quantitative analysis of the secondary data. I was being taught that the secondary data could be analyzed with help id regression. It gained a new insight in the process, as I was able to analyze the secondary as a whole rather than analyzing them based on the authors (Khan 2014). The present research on the mortgage rate of Australia is takes into consideration primary data. However, in future I can carry out research on secondary data by analyzing it in quantitative manner.
The learning process is helpful for me as I came to know that applying the mixed method research would help me in gaining a total idea about the topic. In future, I will use the mixed research methods, as it is necessary for me to get an overall idea about the perspective of the participant (Walter and Andersen 2013). The business research did not help me much in the learning process, as I did not use the mixed method. In the present research paper regarding mortgage I only concentrated on the qualitative research method. The qualitative research method has also been helpful but I think if I would have incorporate quantitative research as well; it would have helped me in gaining better results.
