Concrete experience – Keep a learning journal

This is an individual assignment that tracks your growth as a student of Information Systems over the trimester. It is scaffolded around your weekly learning activities. Completing the activities and seeking input from your peers and the learning facilitator is essential for you to achieve a positive result in this subject. Before you start this assessment, be sure that you have completed the learning activities in all of the modules. This reflective report gives you the opportunity to communicate your understanding of how information systems relate to your career and future.

  1. During Module 1 – 5, you were ask to produce a weekly journal to record your learnings each week. Based on these weekly journals, please write a 1500 word reflective report about your experience.
  1. You are required to follow the four steps of Kolb’s learning cycle when writing the reflective report.

You will keep a learning journal throughout the trimester.

Concrete experience – Keep a learning journal

The first step is to keep a learning journal for the trimester (Modules 1.1 through to 5.2 as described above. You should have already completed this step by now.

Reflective observation – Summarise what happened

You should now be able to comment on your experiences this trimester. This exercise is not a list of what you have done but rather an observation of what you have learned – were there any themes that arose from your journal? The point of a learning journal is to start a discussion on what the key concepts and skills you have learned and acquired during the course of this subject. This is because we often don’t stop to think and reflect on what we have learned

Abstract conceptualization – Analyse what this means

The next step is to analyse what you have found. Reflective practice is a process of thinking about new experiences with a view of learning. It is a form of personal response to new experiences, situations, events or information. What new knowledge have you gained in response to this exercise? And what does this information mean? You are expected to reflect at a deep level here. This means that it is not just about explaining what you have done in this subject rather it requires you to think about your personal beliefs, your background and the way you perceive the world around you. Did you learn anything in this subject that challenged you or change the way you thought about information systems or business?

Active experimentation - New action

The final step is to discuss what you plan to do with this new knowledge. These new insights may lead to a change of thinking or behaviour. In what ways? Set yourself some specific goals for your future studies or career.

You are required to write this assessment in a report format using the following headings:

  1. Introduction
  2. Reflective Observation
  3. Abstract conceptualization
  4. Active experimentation
  5. Conclusion

Concrete experience – Keep a learning journal

In this discussion, roles of information system (IS) in professional development will be discussed that has been learned in my modules. This report will describe learning and other things including knowledge development for professional development. I will discuss about my learning from the modules and how can I use this knowledge in the future using Kolb’s learning model (Buttler, 2017). This report will be based on the learning from module 1 to module 5. This report will discuss about the reflective observations during the whole module as well as learning of new things.

I learned about the agile technologies in the module 1, which are necessary for professional development in the software industry as well as others, as most of the concepts are used from basic of computer science, which is useful in the learning about the professional works (Bélanger & Crossler, 2011). In addition, most of the information systems have used for particular work, such as data management, decision making, and many more.

I learned about the Scrum during module 1 that is an interesting part of agile practice. It can be more beneficial for a learner. In addition, scrum is a good technology for project development, as it makes huge impact on the basic processes, which are helpful for learning (Caniëls & Bakens, 2012). In addition, most of the processes have used for managing different types of processes in an organization in faster way (Chaffey, Dave & White, 2010). There are many changes in the business functions that has required new technologies for managing their data (Chen, Chiang, & Storey, 2012).

In module 2, I learned about the knowledge management that is useful process to develop skills. However, it is a basic need of a system to improve knowledge to manage different types of works (Collier, 2012).

Big data is a well-known technology that has used for manging differ types of services, which are useful for professional development. In addition, most of the giant firms have used Big Data for managing their data and information in secure and structured manner. I learned that Knowledge should be developed about the emerging technologies, which are helpful in the career development as well as skill development.

In this context, ERP software has used for managing different types of business functions of an organization that can be improved using knowledge and other skills. I had developed my knowledge about the ERP and functions that are useful for managing all the processes in a well manner. It is a good way to manage all the business functions in a systematic way. ERP has increased speed of business processes that is necessary for more profits and revenue as well (Chen, Chiang, & Storey, 2012).

Reflective observation – Summarise what happened

I learned that information systems have used for managing differ types of services in a company. however, it is a basic need to manage intelligence devices as well. I learned about many new things during this module (Davoren , 2019). I had a good experience in this module that are helpful in the professional development (Gillett, 2016).

Besides, big data is a helpful tool for data management, it is good technology for learning, as many organizations have adopted their technology for their data management. I think about this technology to make my career in this filed (Guru99, 2018).

I learned about the enterprise systems that are helpful in the development and optimization processes in an organization. I can improve my knowledge about such types of systems, which are used in the most of the industries. In addition, most of the data management skills have used for software industry (Ho?evar & Jakli?, 2010).

Besides, ERP and CRM are highly used in the most of the firms for managing their internal and external processes for business. ERP has used for manging data and other processes, which are helpful in the decision making (Isik, Jones, & Sidorova, 2013).

I learned about the ethics and security in that module that are the part of a business and professional work. Ethics are important for career development; ass honesty makes an employee important for their company. Thus, it is necessity to develop moral and ethics to manage personal and professional works in a systematic manner. It makes a huge impact on the growth of the career as well (Snowdon, 2018).

I learned about the basic processes that are helpful in the professional development. Most of the things are new for me in that module and that are interesting as well (Laudon, & Laudon, 2016)l. thus, I want to explore all the things to develop my career as well (Mather, Kumaraswamy, & Latif, 2009).

In addition, it is a useful tool and technology to develop career in the software industry. In this context, I have managed many skills using that modules in my professional career (Mingers & Walsham, 2010).

Furthermore, I learned about the basic processes in the IS and its importance in the career development. BI has provided help in the decision making, which is goof for the company. I learned that knowledge should be developed for managing technologies especially emerging technologies and innovations. There are various emerging technologies in the market in which career can be developed with high speed as well.

I learned that data can be manage in well manner using technology. I learned many new concepts and theories in that module that are important for my career development including information systems and others.

However, information security is necessary in the system to develop new processes. Security system has used to secure the data in the system as well as other processes. In addition, most of the processes have used for manging all the system in a firm.

I learned about the enterprise systems that are helpful in the development and optimization processes in an organization (Moorty, 2017). I can improve my knowledge about such types of systems, which are used in the most of the industries. In addition, most of the data management skills have used for software industry (Ho?evar & Jakli?, 2010).

Besides, ERP and CRM are highly used in the most of the firms for managing their internal and external processes for business (Moon, 2015). ERP has used for manging data and other processes, which are helpful in the decision making (Isik, Jones, & Sidorova, 2013).

Furthermore, it can be a huge risk for a person to not developed their skills that are necessary for their career development (Bélanger & Crossler, 2011). Therefore, it should focused by each person to know about the new technologies in the market that can be used for managing different types of issues and solutions as well (Sabherwal & Becerra-Fernandez, 2012). Besides, I had developed my knowledge about the CRM and ERP systems to develop my career in this field. It will be more interesting and good for my career development (Chen, Chiang, & Storey, 2012).
