There are different kinds of church services- from the elaborate Eastern Christianity to that of Evangelical Sermon. A major part of the services are held within the church buildings that has been designed for this purpose but there are some services that take place in store-front or within a temporary setting (Crawford, 2017) It is indicative of gathering of Christians and it is said that with the help of ‘church service’ they would be taught ‘word of god’. The Church service helps them in encouraging them in the arena of faith. Gathering of people who are faithful to their religion takes place with the help of church service. The services of that of church service are carried out under the supervision of the clergy. The style of service can differ depending on whether one’s religious inclination is Anglican, Eastern Orthodox or that of Roman Catholic (Bass, 2016)
The church music is indicative of the music that is played within the Church and which is of a sacred nature like that of a hymn. The tune of the hymns have lyrical complexity that helps in the communication of deep theological truth. The psychological effect that the music of the church service has on the congregation is very profound. The music has a soothing effect on the gathering and it helps in relieving them of the burdens that they have in life. The sermon that is played during the church service leads to the spiritual well-being of an individual (Johnson, 2016). The sermons provide an individual with mental peace that helps them in achieving self-control. It provides one with a feeling of detachment from that of bodily need fulfilment. The wisdom that is delivered with the help of a sermon enables an individual in letting go as compared to that of holding on. The positive words of the sermons and hymns provides an individual with happiness and it can prove to be beneficial in maintaining effective relationships. The moral lessons that are conveyed with the help of the sermon helps an individual in the process of thinking that can help them in understanding the mysteries hidden in the universe (Bishop, 2015) It can provide an individual with mental resilience in the face of adversities in life. The building where the church services are generally held is of a grand stature that highlights the importance of the kind of services that are offered in the building. It is found that the church is arranged in shape of that of a Christian cross. The lengthiest part of that of the cross is often represented by the help of an aisle. Junction pertaining to the cross is situated at that of the altar area. The domes helps in directing eye of viewer towards that of the Heavens (Squires, 2016) It helps in reminding the congregation about the major influence that Heaven has on the people residing on the earth. The structure of the church building can inspire the church visitors and makes them remember about the vast influence that God has on the inhabitants of the earth. Architecture can play an important role in experiencing that of real-time situations. The primary purpose of architecture is in the aspect of triggering of emotion. The structure of the church building is such that the human noise is reduced to a very low level (Van Cappellen et al., 2016) It thus emphasizes regarding the miniature role that the human beings have as compared to that of the Al-mighty.
The social relationships that are formed in the Church can prove to be vital for an individual. Social relationships exist at the very heart of religion and faith proves to be a catalyst in the matter of maintaining relationship between that of the human beings. Impetus for carrying out the religious experiences can be said to be primarily of social nature (Guy, Newman & Mastracci, 2014). Supporting relationships are often formed during the course of a church service and this can provide an individual with mental support that can help them in rising above the difficult situations in life.
The repeated exposure to the church services can act as a balm to the troubled soul of an individual. It can help in imbibing certain principles in an individual that can help them in leading a balanced, healthy life. This can help them in moving towards a goal in their life and in helping them so that they can have a more fulfilling life.
The focus of Christianity is on the aspect of spirit and not on that of ritual law (Crawford, 2017). Ten Commandments along with that of the Prophets carry with them an ethical force. Jesus is representative of the elements of mercy, peace along with that of faith. It is assumed that taking part in the church service can draw an individual near to that of God. It is found that the Christian service consists of two dimensions: response to that of God and to that of the human act. It helps an individual in praising God and in receiving absolution from that of the sin. A belief exists in Christianity that death comes before that of life. Metaphor pertaining to this duality pertains to death of that of the old life in winter and new life in spring (Bass, 2016). This is of crucial importance as redemption is conceived to be in relation to sin present within the world.
Psychological Effect of Repeated Exposure and on the Attitude of the Group
The kind of religious experience that one undergoes in a church leads to healing. It has been mentioned in the New Testament that if an individual prays for the sick people then God will answer the prayers. Church Service can help in regaining the faith and this healing will act as the harbinger in relation to the demise of Satan (Squires, 2016). The process of healing that is evoked in an individual by attending the church service can help in keeping one away from that of self-doubt along with fear. The healing helps an individual in passing through adversity by being emboldened with faith.
The sermons and hymns of the church service helps an individual in going beyond the parameters of sacred and that of secular. The hymn preaches an individual to act in an impartial manner and it teaches us to avoid the choosing of personal favourites. It praises the noble qualities of virtue, mercy, peace and love. These qualities can help an individual in going near God (Bass, 2016).The psychological effect of the church service thus helps in bridging the gap between that of sacred and secular and it helps in bringing the two groups close to each other.
