Laundrix plans to operate a very successful and also an effective service with a large customer number. Being the only laundry service in campus the rate would be pocket friendly to everyone and excellent customer care would be a priority to all students and university staff. Students and staff are our priority now but we would expand the business further outside campus to offer services to the community at large. Laundrix plans to stand out with it services to the students and staff by offering the following services:
- Pocket friendly services
- Dry-cleaning services to its customers.
- Folding of the clothes
- Free delivery to customers and this will favor those who come from work late.
- Enhance the phrase that states ‘’cleanliness is next to Godliness.’’
Being the first laundry business in campus, it hopes to create a good working relationship with the clients and offer excellent services that are efficient and effective to them. In turn, we hope to gain profits from the business. It also aims at creating job opportunities for some students and this will help them financially and help in catering for their needs. In addition to that, we hope to expand not only to the surrounding community but to other universities and offer our services there too, more job creation. Again we hope to buy more equipment and technologically advanced, those that use coins and also install our waiting rooms with Wi-Fi so as to make the whole process more enjoyable and one of its kind for our clients. Lastly I hope to raise more capital for the business as well as attract other investors this will aim at ensuring that the business is there for a long term.
Most aspects of businesses depend on successful marketing whereby a product or service is introduced and promoted to a potential customer. Marketing would be used to create service awareness of our business. This awareness will become a reality where potential customers can spread word to their friends. This will be through advertising, public relations as well as promotions in the business. Through posters which would be placed at the entrance of the university and fliers which can be handed over to our potential clients, this would ensure that our business is known as well as be an opportunity for job creation among the students. Through filling of questionnaires, this will help in developing personal relationship with the potential clients, therefore this marketing strategy will be used as a one on one interaction with our targeted group so as to get more ideas and feedback as well as how our services can be improved. Promotions will be used to offer a certain discount to the first 10 customers who would try our services after launching of the business. Therefore, marketing will be used to make the business succeed because without the customers there will be no profit gained hence the business will crash.
Business Goals
An employee with the required set of skills and expert in the field will be monitoring and controlling the laundry process. A business manager or the owner will manage the whole business in general. Customers can sign contracts and become members so that they can receive regular and scheduled dry cleaning services and non-members can always make a phone call and request for the service or make an appointment if its more convenient for them. Payment can be made monthly through a card billing process for the members whereby a statement will be sent showing the service charges and credited in their cards or payment can be done after the service has been done for both the members and non-members. The payment option will depend on the customer to choose one which they more comfortable with. We will have a store whereby all operations will be run from that place. It will be divided into four depending on the type of activity to be done. The first part will be for the machine and equipment’s, the second part will be used for storing the dirty clothes that have been received from the customers, the third part will be for storing the clean clothes after they have been washed and cleaned and finally the fourth part will be for ironing and altering the clothes.
For the business to start its operations it will need an approximate of $50000. This will cater for leasing of equipment, training of staff, rent, office equipment, insurance among other things the business will require. The business will be financed through the owner providing capital, loans from financial institutions and leasing of equipment’s. Buying new equipment can be expensive as opposed to leasing. A new machine can cost up to approximately $40000 as opposed to leasing which can cost approximately $20000 per year. And this may also include maintenance and repair incase the machine breaks down. For the business to run efficiently it will need the following equipment:
- A washer large enough to handle all kinds of garments
- A stainless-steel tumble dryer
- A dry cleaning machine
- An iron roller and vacuum exhauster
- An ironing board
- A van for transporting the garments to various clients
- Office equipment such as phones, printers, chairs and tables and racks
The business will require at least five people during its start up to run efficiently. An advert can be placed on a website or a newspaper in search of an expert in the field of laundry and other two workers. The expert will oversee the operations and the quality of cleaning the garments. The expert will be reporting to the business owner. The two workers will be doing the cleaning and the ironing. A driver will also be required to transport the clothes to their respective owners after and before they have been cleaned. As the business continues to grow part time workers will be employed so that the workers can work in shifts. Also, two drivers will be needed to work in shifts.
Marketing
As the business continues to grow in time, the number of customers would have increased and this will mean an increase in business operations. This will be done in a systematic manner by evaluating the sales and profits the business generates. Also, you will have to put in mind the operation cost the business incurs. Therefore, as the business grows, there will be a need to open up another branch or find another place with a large space to cater for the increased operations. This will also require an increase in the number of employees to deal with the increased workload. This also will include hiring a number of drivers and adding another van for delivering the garments. A need to lease other machines and equipment for the cleaning service will be required. In doing all this, it will help the business to make better decisions, budget properly for the business operation and enhance its day to day operations

Laundrix will be able to create employment opportunities to the local people. This will make them have a source of income. Also, it will be of benefit to some of the students who will want to work as part timers in the company and earn some money.

Many people will be happy with the fees that will be charged in our business since most of them can afford it with ease. This will ensure that the business has loyal customers and it’s a big step towards making the business grow
Since it is a business just like any other, the business will be paying taxes which in turn will be used in the development of various sections in the community
The year is 2090, working as the operations manager at Laundrix Dry Cleaners and cleaning company. Our company has grown and now we have eleven branches across three cities and a fleet of 8 vans to help us in delivery of garments. Not only do we provide garment cleaning only we now also provide home cleaning services. I wake up early and get prepared to go for work as usual. On reaching there I clock in and log on to the computer and check on the customers website based to find out if there are orders pending and the ones that have been finished. The ones that have been cleaned I clear them on the computer and forward them to the delivery department via the computer. The delivery department then verifies and clears the orders ready for delivery. The driver comes and picks the orders that have been cleared and deliver them to the specified destinations. I revisit the computer to check up for the pending orders which I in turn forward to the cleaning department with a scheduled time for when they are required. Working with the computer systems for handling delivery, invoices and assigning of duties is efficient and also easy as it minimizes the time taken to move from one department to another. A customer can make an order via our website. The customer can log in feed in their details, the type of clothes they are sending for the cleaning and how they would wish for them to be cleaned. The fees for the type of service are displayed and the customer accepts then submits this information. Also, customers can bring in their garments personally and here the details are fed by our clerk and the customer provide with a receipt. Once the customer feeds in this information, the IT department receives this information and sends the address to the driver via an SMS with the details of the clothes he is going to pick from the customer. Once the clothes have been picked they are taken to the receiving department whereby they are tagged and prepared for cleaning. All this information for a customer’s order is fed onto the computer for easy tracking and management. Then as the operations manager it is my duty to view all this information and find out which orders are pending and the ones that have been finished and I clear them to be delivered to the customer. There is minimal movement to go and supervise the workers directly as everything is done via a computer. We have also increased the number of machines thus making the process to be faster. Once the garments have been cleaned, clothes are ironed and folded then put in a bag with the details. After the order has been verified by the supervise he/she updates in the computer system that a particular order has been completed. After I have cleared the order the finance department then credits the customers card and the finished orders are then put together ready for delivery. The use of this process is efficient and also customers love it since they can make an order from the convenience of their homes. For the house cleaning services, we charge our customers per hour. Once the customer requests for one of our cleaning agents to attend to their home, our company then assigns an agent who is transported to the customers home whereby they will do cleaning as per the customers request and terms of service.
The order can be made via a phone call, email, personally visit our offices or also via our website. We charge our customers depending on the number of hours our agent has spent there. The customer has to make home cleaning orders a day before so as to ensure that an agent can be allocated to them and also it makes the planning process efficient and effective. As the day ends I must ensure that all the orders that had been schedules to be delivered that day have been sent and also ensure that the cleaning machines and equipment are okay. This ensures that the operation for the next day go well. This process of using computer systems has been efficient and effective in making us meet our goals and targets and also it has helped us to server our customers better. We hope to continue opening up more branches and that we become an international company providing services everywhere
