FastDrivers is a newly created Driving lessons service company that provides online booking for customers to book a lesson online in the state of NSW.

FastDrivers has considered developing a simple website for an online booking System with the capability to enable Customers access from their mobile devices and to book a lesson.

At the time of their first booking, Customers should be able to enter their details with their address into an online form, along with their credit card details. However, Customers can also have an account with FastDrivers and for any subsequent bookings, they can log in to their own account and make a booking for a Lesson.

They need to be able to book a lesson on a preferred day and time. The system be then able to either confirm the booking or suggest some other time on the same day if the required booking is not available.

Assume you have been assigned to design and develop the system for FastDrivers. You are given three weeks to come up with a blueprint of the system design and present the design to a team of consultants.

The online booking System should be able to perform a number of activities such as adding or creating a new customer, checking for available driving Instructors in the area requested by the customer, Providing them other times on the same day available, receipt and processing all bookings transactions. You may add any other possible functions that you deem necessary for this system to function in this business case.

You are required to design a system that can perform the above activities and maintain a database containing data relevant to those activities. Carry out “process modelling” and “data modelling” to achieve this purpose.

Your tasks in this project include: -

Provide a justification of why this system needs to be developed and ensure that you are

professionally convincing to senior management.

Provide a description of the business case and justification about the business benefits from implementing this system.

Describe the project scope and provide a brief cost and schedule analysis.

Identify the major functions in the system that will be required in order to meet the business needs.

Conduct the TCO of this system in Excel; add your full name and student ID in Excel in row 1. Embed the TCO part from Excel into the Word document, which is your assignment file. Ask the teacher to show you how to embed this if you are not sure.

Develop data flow diagram (DFD level 0 and Context Diagram with at least 2 different processes).

Prepare entity relationship diagram, to model the data requirement relevant to this system. Create 3 screen interfaces a (main menu, an input screen and the monthly sales report) that will be used in the system designed by your group.

FastDrivers is a company recently created that provides driving lessons and the company provides online booking of lessons for the customers in New South Wales. The company wants to design an online booking system which performs the activities that are described in this report. The purpose of this report is to provide an analysis and design of online booking system to serve the customers of FastDrivers.

The structure of this report is to provide system description, justification for the business case and its benefits and project scope. The other inclusions are cost and schedule analysis, Total Cost of Ownership, Data Flow Diagram, Entity Relationship Diagram and Screen interfaces.

The system description of online booking system for FastDrivers are as follows.

• The online booking system allows customers to booking lessons online.
• The online booking system is capable of accessing from mobile devices.
• The customers should be able to enter their information along with their address details including credit card details at the time of online booking.
• The system provides log in feature so that customers can login for subsequent bookings to book a lesson.
• The customers should be able to book a lesson on a particular time and day.
• The system provides customers to either confirm their online lesson booking or suggest/recommend some other time in case the booking is not available on the same day.
• The system should perform activities such as creating or adding customers and checking of driving instructors available or not in the area as per the customer’s request.
• The system should provide other available times on the same day available to the customers including receipt and processing of all transactions of online booking.
• The system should be able to cancel the booking from customers account.
• The customers should be able to send feedback and ask queries in the system.

The online booking system for FastDrivers should be developed to enable company to provide services to the customers online. The business benefits from the online booking system for FastDrivers are as follows.

Hassle free learning- The hassle of field learning will be reduced that contributes in additional constraints of learning on field. The online learning will help to learn in their free time without actually going on field to learn driving. The time consumed in learning the driving lessons in a traditional way is reduced significantly that helps people to do their other works in that time.  

Increased revenue- The online learning lessons will also help the company to increase their revenue as people nowadays are very busy and they rarely have time to do any task. Thus they will opt for online learning lessons for driving. This will result in increased revenue for the company.

Cost Effective- The online learning lessons for driving system will reduce the additional costs of travelling, classroom training, learning materials, venues and catering. This will save company’s extra costs on these resources and also time consumed in arranging these resources.

Flexibility and convenience- The advantage of online learning system is that it will provide flexible learning to the customers where they can choose their own time to learn. This saves energy that is spent on coordinating with customers including venue, day and time, about the driving lessons. The instructors are available to provide lessons from anywhere and anytime without any boundary constraint.

Information is easily accessed- The organization can easily access and manage the details that are provided online by the customers. The traditional training sessions are not effective in accessing and maintaining the driving lessons. The online booking system helps to access information without any hassle and employees are able to freely access and manage the online database of customers.

The project scope of online booking system is to provide services for online lessons to the customers. The online booking system should be able to provide online learning lessons where customers can register and then login for further bookings. The system should also provide transaction processes of online lessons booked at one place.

Customer care- This feature will helps customers to operate FastDrivers online booking system in following ways.

• Booking lessons and paying
• Confirmation
• Rescheduling, Cancel and refund

Search- This feature helps customers to search for available time and day along with searching for available driving instructor. This feature also helps to schedule their time as per the availability.

Server capacity- This feature helps to serve up to 90,000 customers accessing at the same time.

FastDrivers account- The option for registering and making an account on FastDrivers to login for further bookings and payments.

Feedback- The feedback feature will help to improve services of FastDrivers.

Therefore, from above system analysis and design it can be concluded that the online booking system for driving lessons is important. The report briefly describes the importance and requirements of online booking system.
