FastDrivers Essay Online Booking System.

Objectives

FastDrivers is a newly created Driving lessons service company that provides online booking for customers to book a lesson online in the state of NSW.

FastDrivers has considered developing a simple website for an online booking System with the capability to enable Customers access from their mobile devices and to book a lesson.

At the time of their first booking, Customers should be able to enter their details with their address into an online form, along with their credit card details. However, Customers can also have an account with FastDrivers and for any subsequent bookings, they can log in to their own account and make a booking for a Lesson.

They need to be able to book a lesson on a preferred day and time. The system be then able to either confirm the booking or suggest some other time on the same day if the required booking is not available.

Assume you have been assigned to design and develop the system for FastDrivers. You are given three weeks to come up with a blueprint of the system design and present the design to a team of consultants.

The online booking System should be able to perform a number of activities such as adding or creating a new customer, checking for available driving Instructors in the area requested by the customer, Providing them other times on the same day available, receipt and processing all bookings transactions. You may add any other possible functions that you deem necessary for this system to function in this business case.

You are required to design a system that can perform the above activities and maintain a database containing data relevant to those activities. Carry out “process modelling” and “data modelling” to achieve this purpose.

Your tasks in this project include: -

Provide a justification of why this system needs to be developed and ensure that you are

professionally convincing to senior management.

Provide a description of the business case and justification about the business benefits from implementing this system.

Describe the project scope and provide a brief cost and schedule analysis.

Identify the major functions in the system that will be required in order to meet the business needs.

Conduct the TCO of this system in Excel; add your full name and student ID in Excel in row 1. Embed the TCO part from Excel into the Word document, which is your assignment file. Ask the teacher to show you how to embed this if you are not sure.

Develop data flow diagram (DFD level 0 and Context Diagram with at least 2 different processes).

Prepare entity relationship diagram, to model the data requirement relevant to this system. Create 3 screen interfaces a (main menu, an input screen and the monthly sales report) that will be used in the system designed by your group.

The marking will be based on the design; it is not necessary to implement the system.

The FastDrivers Driving Lesson Service System is being defined and explained in the report. All the functionality of FastDrivers Driving Lesson Service is being shown pictorially by different technologies like UML diagrams, ER Diagrams, TCO, project management etc.

The report is showing everything from scratch about FastDrivers Driving Lesson Service. From the basic flow of the process to the cost and schedule of the FastDrivers Driving Lesson Service, is being shown in the report.

The FastDrivers Driving Lesson Service Online System is very much required because of the following reasons-

• It is providing facility to book driving lessons online and saving the time of customers.
• It is providing the booking statusl to the customers at their home. They do not need to come to the FastDrivers or call every day.

The main motive of the FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online System is to make everything online. The customer will book their lessons online and will get the response online. They can check the status of their bookings also. There are lots of features and benefits of the FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online System as follows-

• The business will grow by this new online booking system.
• It will save the time of customers.
• It will increase the interest of the customers also.
• It will save the important customer and booking information very safely.
• There is very less chance of data loss.

To make the perfect working FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online Booking System is the main objective. These tasks are coming under the scope of the project-

• Set goal and main objective of the project that is online lesson booking system.
• Create the layout design of the system to show the brief functionality.
• Define all the pages that are required in FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online Booking System.
• List all the mandatory features that are required to be implemented into new FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online Booking System.
• Define the budget of the FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online Booking System.
• Establish a good team for the development of the system.
• Start work on the system design and functionality.
• Test the complete system very carefully.
• Host the system on the server.

The cost and schedule analysis for the FastDrivers project is built in MS Project.  All the tasks that are mentioned above are used and the timeline for each project is set. The fixed cost of each task is also set.  Below screenshot is showing the Cost and Schedule Analysis of FastDrivers project.

The FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online Booking System has some important and really necessary features that the main reason of developing the FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online Booking System like below-

• Add new customer
• Make lesson booking online
• Check the  instructor availability for the bookings of the customers
• In case of unavailability of instructors, ask for new booking dates
• Confirm bookings
• Process transactions for all bookings

TCO is used to show the hidden cost of resources that is not estimated while developing the system. it may be great trouble for the owners if it is very high. Therefore TCO helps in getting idea about hidden cost which is very important task. It helps in taking decision at the design or development phase of any system to escape from the future problems. The TCO of FastDrivers Driving Lesson Online Booking System is conducted in the excel sheet as shown below-

 

The above TCO analysis may helps the owners in getting the hidden cost and they can decide for better option if the hidden cost is very high. The above TCO analysis is the sample solutions of hidden costs that may be occur at any time. By viewing the TCO analysis, the owners may change their contract and ask for longer warranty etc. Therefore; the TCO analysis is very important and beneficial for every organization.

Assumptions

A customer can use more than one credit card for the payment of his bookings.
