The Benefits of Promoting Equality and Diversity in the Classroom

Introduction 

The purpose of this task (A) is to share my experience in relation to how the promotion of equality and diversity has helped towards ensuring a safe environment which enhances the process of learning within the class room. Task B identifies and provides a brief understanding in relation five actions and strategies used to promote equality and diversity in the class room.

The promotion of equality and Diversity within the classroom has been prominently beneficial towards ensuring and environment which is safe promotes enabling of learning. The principles of equity and Diversity have set a good example before the students. They have been made to realize the importance equity and Diversity within the society. The concept have enabled students belonging to different backgrounds towards fulfilling their potentials. I feel this because as the whole class is aware about the principles of equity and Diversity there is a sense of respect which the student observe and relation to each other. The students try to understand the cultures of others which not only creates harmonium within the classroom was also enhances the knowledge of the students in relation to different cultures. The principles have enhanced the overall happiness of students within the classrooms. There are significantly less number of conflicts which take place within the class which enables the student to learn more amidst the safe environment. The principles have prevented the students from being anomaly and enhanced the sense of inclusion within them. When the students get an understanding about the cultures of others it automatically discourages them to observe a prejudicial treatment towards others. The concept in addition reduces conflict between those who belong to different cultures and races by enhancing acceptance of others. The students within the classroom celebrate festivals of each other with equal joy which enhances harmony within the classroom and subsequently promotes a safe environment which enables learning. The negative attitude with the students had towards different cultures is removed through then corporation of equity and Diversity within the classroom. Where there is harmony and the safe environment learning is automatically enabled. The students are now more curious towards knowing each other’s culture. They are profoundly excited when they identify the similarities which their cultures have with the others. Through the principles the students are not able to understand each other in a better way and understand different point of view they possess. They try to help each other when they identify that any one of them is having difficulties towards a particular understanding. Through such help those who are weak in any aspect get a chance to understand the topic in a much better manner.

  1. Challenging any negative attitude - Any negative attitude which is identified within the students is to be addressed immediately by making them aware of the ill effects of such understandings.
  2. Promoting multiculturalism through lessons - students are thoughts lessons which promote multiculturalism and let them know about the importance and benefits of multiculturalism
  3. Planning lessons which depicts diversity in class – students are though lessons which make them understand that they have diverse cultures within the classroom
  4. Setting rules of how students should treat each other –Clear regulations are provided to the students in relation to how they should behave and the consequences of bad behaviour
  5. Teaching students equally and fairly – All students are provides equal education without any scope of partiality of biasness. They are all treated in a fair and equal manner

Strategies Used to Promote Equality and Diversity in the Classroom

Conclusion 

Thus promotion of equality and diversity have provided a safe environment in classrooms which enables learning. In addition the five strategies used for the promotion has also been addressed briefly.

Introduction 

In this part of the assignment I have discussed about the document which I will have in place to make the students known about the importance of equality and diversity. In part B I have discussed about the initiatives I will take to enhance the equity and diversity program in school as well as three agencies or professionals I will work with to promote equality and diversity.

Part A

The inclusion of equity and Diversity within the classroom will

  1. Set some good example for each other
  2. Students coming from diverse backgrounds can give effect to the potential skills in an inclusive environment
  3. A happy and safe learning and teaching environment is created
  4. Provide students the best chance of achievements and success
  5. Enhances the success rate among students
  6. Improves the result and happiness of the students
  7. Encourages those students who have special needs to come to school
  8. Provides the students and opportunity to understand different cultures
  9. Reduces disputes and conflicts between students
  10. Prevent students from unfairly and discriminately treating others
Part B i

There are several ways in which the school program of initiatives in promoting equity and Diversity can be enhanced. Firstly I would initiate a specific period for raising the Awareness of students in relation to equity and diversity. In this period the students would be provided knowledge about multiculturalism and diversity and how search concept may benefit them in the long run. I would conduct several activities like games and skits which would indirectly promote equity and Diversity within School. I would arrange for renowned activist to come and give a speech in relation to the concept of equality and Diversity to the students. I would initiate a reward system for students who support those who are in need towards achieving their objectives. I would implement a strict system for students who do not comply with the principles of equality and Diversity within the classroom on the school premises. Under this activity such students would have to take additional classes of equity and diversity in order to provide them a practical experience in relation to the concept.

I will not be able to successfully promote and implement equality and diversity in the schools as the task requires a lot of activities. I would be requiring the support of other organizations and professionals to appropriately carry out the activities in relation to the promotion of equality and diversity within the school. Firstly I can take the help of Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills). This is a non-ministerial department which provides its reports to the parliament. It has the responsibility of inspecting educational institutions which includes state and independent schools. It also helps is providing teaching training in the initial stages. I can also take help from Pearson which is a multinational education and publishing company. The company focuses on higher education, schools and professional areas. I can also take help from Ofcom (Office of Communications) which has the responsibility to facilitating telecommunication and postal agencies in the country. The office may provide me with an enhanced framework to communicate with the students.

Initiatives to Enhance Equity and Diversity Program in School

Conclusions

Thus through the above mentioned activities and support I would be able to appropriately promote equality and diversity within the school.

Introduction 

It is important for schools to take steps in relation to the promotion of equality and diversity in the wider community as well (Griffith and Burns 2014). Few of such steps are discussed in this part of the assignment.

Story telling- Students can be told stories about the great leaders in the community who have helped towards promoting diversity and equality in the society and how their activities have helped the society to attain its present status.

Celebration of occasions- occasions and festivals of each culture has to be celebrated in schools so that the students enjoy them and known their importance.

Introducing new language classes- providing the opportunities to students to learn a new language would not only enhance their knowledge but will also make them remove barriers in relation to language and communication (Evans 2017).

Organizing discussion and debates- through this activity he students would be able to present their view and arguments in relation to the topic and will also understanding the view of others which would enhance the overall understanding. The topic of debate may be the Equality Act 2010.

Holding games to promote diversity- This is a fun way of raising knowledge among the students in relation to equality and diversity as while planning the students would also get an opportunity to learn.

Thus through the above discussed steps schools can help promoting equality and diversity in the wider community.

Introduction

Various activities have to be carried out in order to promote equality and Diversity within the classrooms. Five activities which I did for such promotion as discussed in this part of the assignment. I primarily referred to the equality act 2010 in order to base my activities. This part also discusses the steps which I have failed to take and my overall impact on the agenda

Promotion of gender equality- I insured that within the classroom there is no discrimination between boys and girls. Both boys and girls are provided with equal opportunities within the classroom. Although this is generally done in schools in ensure that everyone in the classroom is aware that there should be no discrimination between boys and girls. I organized games in which both boys and girls to part equally so that the sense of discrimination within them is eradicated.

Three Agencies or Professionals That Can Help Promote Equality and Diversity

Providing excellence went to those with disabilities- the equality act provides that any person with disability has to be provided with necessary arrangements so that they are not treated unfavorably. I am sure that all students having disability in school are provided with those task which they can do easily I also provided them with extra support in doing school related activities. Through these activities student with disability were provided with an environment within which they can utilize that potential towards their benefits. They are made to feel that that disability will not come in their way towards achieving their goals (Cole 2017).

Promotion of religious diversity- the quality at expressly provides that no discrimination should be done on the basis of religion or race of a person. Abiding by such provisions insured within the school that the students understand the benefits of multiculturalism and understand each other’s cultures so that no conflict is created between those having a different religion or race. In addition I made different groups within the class towards accomplishing activities and every member of those group belong to this a different race or religion. This help the student to understand each other’s culture and point of view in a better way which would help them enhance their respect towards each other.

Code of conduct - I established a formal code of conduct within the classroom based on the principles of the equality act that no person should be provided and unfair treatment because they belong to a different religion, race or gender. Children having disability should also be treated with utmost respect according to the code. The violation of the code results in detention and a visit to the counsellor.

Extra classes I arranged additional tuition classes for those who had difficulties in understanding English. These classes help the students towards learning the new language so that they can get equal opportunities like the other students in class (Castagno 2014).

The two things which I could have done better in relation to the promoting a culture of equality and diversity within the school includes

Taking the students on excursions to historical places- I should have taken the students on excursion to historical places so that they can practically enhance the knowledge in relation to diverse cultures. How different people participated in the benefits of the society would be known to the student if they visit such historical places. The interest of the student among such places would also be enhanced which would make them more curious towards understanding the culture of equality and diversity.

Promoting Equality and Diversity in the Wider Community

Making other school students participate in games - I should have also invited students from other schools to participate in the school game so that the children are able to experience more diversity around them. This would have enhanced the knowledge of the student in relation to various cultures and they would have started to respect each other more.

Impact made by me on the school’s Equality and Diversity agenda

I feel that I made a very positive impact on the school’s equity and Diversity agenda. The activities which I have brought into practice in relation to the classroom have help the students to understand each other in a better way. The students now respect diversity of each other and there are significantly less conflicts in the classroom as compared to what was before the equality and Diversity agenda. I ensured that I comply with all provisions of the Equality Act and base all my activities on such provisions in order to signify the importance of equality and Diversity to the students. The students are now aware of the fact that discrimination is unlawful in the United Kingdom. They are also aware of the protected characteristics possessed by a person which may account to discrimination if such person is treated unfairly because of such characteristics. The equality and Diversity agenda promoted as safe environment within the school and the classroom. The safety and harmony within the classroom and school enhanced the process of learning. Students with disability within the school and now made to feel that they are as good as the normal students as special arrangements are made for them so that they can compete with the other students. I also feel that the agenda is going to have positive impact on the community as well. The students are going to share their experiences within School to their parents and relatives which would encourage them to send their children to school. With the incorporation of specific activities towards the promotion of equity and Diversity the agenda reached new Heights.

Conclusions

Therefore through the above discuss steps I insured equality and diversity in classrooms. I would work on those steps which I missed to address properly.
