Discuss about the Personal Branding Of Product Or Services.
Personal branding could be defined as the concept of marketing oneself. Personal branding is not a new concept as Tom Peters used it for the first time in 1990 (McCorkle and Payan, 2017). Personal branding highlights promotion of one's career and the skills that the person wants to exhibit to be more employable. This concept is similar to the branding of any product or services that is seen in case of business organisations (McCorkle and Payan, 2017). This assignment highlight the personal branding of one’s careers along with the skills and requirements that are needed to be suitably employed in large organisations based on the skills that a person has.
After my graduation, I would like to pursue the career of a software engineer. This is because I have studied Bachelor of technology in computer science and the best possible career that I have in this field is being a software engineer. With the advancement in the digitalization and technology, a software engineer is a requirement for all large business organisations in order to develop and maintain the online business and the technologies that incorporate (Campelo et al. 2014). In order to be a software engineer there are various skills that I need to possess. One of the basic skills that I have is a sound knowledge about computers and computer related technology. I have studied various computer science subjects in my graduation and have expertise knowledge in various programming languages. The programming languages that I am well equipped in includes C, C++, Java, Python, C Sharp, Dot Net and have adequate knowledge in scripting languages such as JavaScript and HTML
I have adequate knowledge of computer networks and the working of Internet. Computer database, DBMS is also one of my basic skills. Having these skills, are the basic requirements of being a software engineer. With the advancement in technology software engineers are in high demand in various business organisation (Tuškej et al., 2013). Along with the technical skills, I have various professional skills as well. These include effective time management, hard working, and leadership qualities continuous development plan. I have proficiency in various communicating languages that helps me to be employable in different countries. The time management skills that I have are useful in my professional career. This is because in professional life multi tasking is essential. Multitasking demands effective time management skills, which will be helpful for me to ensure I am able to do multiple tasks at one time. Working hard along with working smart is the requirement of the current professional world (Turri et al., 2013). Hard work without any smartness is not useful (Dessart et al., 2016). With smart work, I will be able to complete the task given to me in short span of time with less effort. The diligence with which I work is essential for being successful in my professional career.
Skills Needed to be a Software Engineer
In order to ensure personal branding is effectively conducted it is essential to demonstrate the skills in the areas in which I am expert. Demonstration of skills that are not true might result in lack of reliability of my personal branding (Resnick et al., 2016). The main aim of personal branding is to highlight the skills that I possess in order to be more employable. It is important that I demonstrate various personal professional as well as technical skills and enhance them continuously to become more employment in large business organisations of my domain.
Personal branding demands publishing the skills at the right places. Social media and professional network are the best places to publish my skills and that promote personal branding (Vallas and Cummins, 2015). Social networking sites and professional network that are not much visited should not be chosen for publishing my skills (McCorkle and Payan, 2017). It is essential that I highlight some special skills that make me different from the others, who also want to pursue a career of a software engineer (Dinnie, 2015). Along with the technical skills, I have to develop an exhibit my communication skills, leadership skills, and time management skills, patience and hard work, which will help me, stand out in the crowd.
The effectiveness of personal branding lies in the place where the skills are being published. Branding me in a social media that is not visited by the influential people of the professional world will result in ineffective personal branding (McCorkle and Payan, 2017). Social media platforms that I should use to promote my career ensure effective personal branding includes the top job portals of Australia. This includes Seek, gum tree, my career job seeker. Along with these professional portals, personal branding could be carried out using the social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter as well. It is important to have a strong contact with people who are influential in the professional world in order to enhance chances of being employable.
I can initiate personal branding through Seek. This is because it is one of it is one of the best career portals offered by the Australian professional world. The top recruiters of Australia visit use this portal on a regular basis in order to search for the most eligible candidate who will be able to successfully achieve organisational goals.
Moreover, the top recruiters of Australia post the new job opening in this career portal. Therefore, I can make my career visible to the top recruiters of Australia thus helping myself to become more eligible for being recruited as a software engineer in one of the best business organisations of Australia. Another platform that I can use for personal branding is a social networking site such as Facebook. This is one of the most visited social networking sites in the world (McCorkle and Payan, 2017). There are recruiters and professional people also have their own pages in Facebook and candidates can post a profile. This is an important platform of being visible to the eminent personalities of the professional world making myself prone to be employed as a Software Engineer.
Effective Personal Branding Strategies
After setting up a profile in Seek, I have seen remarkable responses from the people of the professional world. Various recruiters have contacted me regarding the job openings that they have in their companies. I have been interviewed by various organisations who have found my profile in the job portal. The responses that I got ensures that my personal branding was a major success with one of the most visited job portals of Australia. Before I published my profile in the job portal, I ensured that my profile was peer reviews by friends and colleagues. The suggestions that has given to me as a part of the peer review was accepted by me and I change my profile according to their suggestions. While some of the reviewers said that my profile reflective overconfidence, some of them said I lacked some skills at makes me different from the others. Thus, after changing my profile a number of times I successfully posted it at Seek, one of the top job portals of Australia does incorporating effective personal branding.
Another essential criterion of having personal branding is being active on the job portals where my profile has been published (Freling and Forbes, 2013). This is because the recruiters track the daily activities of the candidates and open judge them by the last time they were active. If a potential candidate is seem to be active on a job portal a month before, then the recruiters often conclude that the candidate is not suitable for been chosen for a job opening, since he might not be keen. However if a candidate it seems to visit the job portal few hours ago, it shows the keenness, of the candidate to seek employment.
Personal branding has a key role to play in enhancing the career of a person especially fresh graduate seeking employment for the first time. Personal branding helps in identification of the skills and the traits in a person, who is looking for employment. Various social platforms such as social media or professional network could be used for personal branding. It is important that the skills that are published in the social media out the professional network sites be genuine and authentic (Davis et al., 2014). Display of skills that are not genuine might result in hamper of the career. Personal branding could be compared to the branding of products and services that businesses do in order to sell their products. Personal branding highlights positives and the strengths in a person, thus helping the person to become employable and choose a suitable career for himself. Personal branding is more important than the fear of a person since effective personal branding mark the beginning of an effective career. Thus, it could be concluded that the personal branding has a major role to play and ensures that the career path of an individual is made easier with personal branding.
