Aim of the project, objectives and problem statement

Discuss about the RFID Technology and Attendance Management.

Data collection and analysis process is gathering as well as measuring information on the variables of interest in an established fashion of system. The components of data collection in research is common to all the fields of the study that includes physical and social sciences, humanities and business related issues. Present report deals with doing research on the importance of location based attendance. The aim of the project, objectives as well as problem statement is discussed in the present task. In addition, the adopted theories or framework related to the project is described in the report. Along with these, methodology and data collection/ analysis techniques are presented in the report.  The paper also presents description of the proposed artifact and project completion plan.

The aim of the project is to involve employees more in the development of the organization. In addition, the project would be helpful for the organization to be informed to the staffs that the management has keep track of the attendance and presence of the employees at office hour.

Objectives of the project can be explained as followed.

  • To spend less time on payroll, resources and paperwork
  • To prevent buddy punching along with other time theft
  • To prevent human error in bookkeeping
  • To stay on the right side of the law

Manual time and attendance systems utilize paper time cards as well as time sheets, which staffs of the organization fill out (Lin et al. 2014). It results oversee of accuracy by the managers. On the other hand, time as well as attendance information is the subject to making human error at the time of several staffs like managers, payroll and employees of the organization. It involves recording of the numbers. Masalha and Hirzallah (2014) stated that the staffs of an organization punch in and during arriving at work go to lunch and take a break as well as leave for the day. The managers need to add up the minutes as well as hours worked through utilizing time card of the staffs and fill in a time sheet that indicates the hours worked in the office. Hence, it is required to calculate times as well as attendance. In addition, there are some errors and misuses are found while using the manual system. Thus, there is a problem identified in the manual system and requires an automated system fulfilling the requirements.

However, installation of automated location based system has some issues that are included in the problem statement. Location based attendance may lead to have fake attendance. In addition, as the location based attendance is based on GPS system, it is required to have privacy for the staffs that can be hampered through application of the attendance of the staffs based on their location (Nainan, Parekh & Shah, 2013). It is also important to have internet connection for giving attendance in the office, which lacks sometimes among the staffs. It develops several issues among the staffs of the organization.

In order to identify the issues in the project problem, PIECES framework would be helpful in this aspect. In this framework, performance of the manual attendance system can be detected throughout and response time. Analysis of information is useful to find out the lack of any information that is essential to fulfill the objective as well as accuracy of the information in the study. Analysis of the inputs helps to analyze the data that are not captured. In addition, it is analyzed of illegal data in the manual format of attendance tracking of the staffs.

Adopted theories/ Framework

Analysis of the stored data is useful to find out the data that is not secured and not well organized (Du et al. 2014). Data that is not flexible and difficult to encounter the needs can be analyzed with the help of the framework. Moreover, costs of the system that is untraceable and too high can be explained by using the framework. It is important to control the security of the system. Processing of the errors that are occurring in the manual system can be analyzed through the framework. Furthermore, controlling inconvenience of the staffs and excessive controls that cause delays in the processing can be achieved with the framework (Kadry & Smaili, 2013). Efficiency of the staffs through analyzing the data can be redundantly processed in the system. Efforts required for people and machines as well as computers can be analyzed with help of the framework. In addition, the services that results inaccurate and inconsistent results can be analyzed with help of the framework.

The analysis is useful to analyze the information that helps to find the loopholes in the manual attendance tracking system. It results to enable automated system for tracking attendance of the employees as the solution of previous issue. In the contrary, PIECES framework is helpful to analyze performance of the staffs and attendance while conducting investigation on the location based attendance tracker system. The PIECES framework has been selected in order to analyze the data present in the system. It enables to analyze inputs, outputs, stored data, and economics, control as well as efficiency along with the services related to the use of automated location based attendance system.

In order to gather information regarding the topic, data has been collected through using primacy data collection techniques. As the matter is directly related to the staffs and management of an organization, data has been collected from staffs and managers of the organization. Simple random sampling technique has been selected for the research. At first, the samples are selected for the research (Symeonidis, Ntempos & Manolopoulos, 2014). Employees are approached to answer multiple choice based questions based on the issues faced while using manual attendance system and importance of implementing location based attendance system. 90 employees are proposed to participate in the survey questionnaire method; out of which 78 staff were agreed to participate in the survey.

On the other hand, interview has been arranged to get answer of the questions related to the topic. 5 managers of the organization were approached to participate in the interview section. However, 3 managers were agreed to involve in the interview. It is important to follow the ethical approach while conducting survey and interview that are strictly followed in the research. In addition, there were no forces given to the participants in order to participate in the event. Data that are gathered for the research are protected under Data Collection 1998 act. It was also ensured that there has been any exchange of money while conducting survey as well as interview.

Methodology and Data Collection/ Analysis techniques

It is important to analyze the data properly in order get appropriate results for the research. In this aspect, data are collected through conducting the survey and interview. Raw data has been collected for the research that is required to analyze for getting accurate result. In order to get appropriate result, proper tools are selected in the research. Hence, selection of the research tools is very important for research. After collecting the data for research, data are analyzed with the help of quantitative and qualitative analysis.

In order to collect and analyze the data for the project, it is required to develop proper artifact. In this regard, selection of appropriate research philosophy carries an important role. There are generally three types of research philosophies such as positivism, realism as well as interpretivism (Georgiev, Noulas & Mascolo, 2014). Positivism philosophy is based on the quantifiable observations so that statistical analysis is taken place for the project. In addition, positivism philosophy is concerned with the scientifically testing. It is possible to take the approach in the truth whereas the role of researcher has a chance of getting limited data as well as interpretation towards the objective approach. On the other hand, realism philosophy is concerned with continuous research process. It is important to analyze the process with the help of realism philosophy. It is concerned with the meaningful observations as well as using the specific philosophy that concentrates on the scientific methods. In present research project for analyzing the importance of location based attendance tracker system, positivism philosophy has been taken for having factual knowledge that leads to test the hypothesis as well as questions for research.

It is important to select appropriate research design that helps to pave the right way of the research. Exploratory, explanatory as well as descriptive research designs are the types of research designs that require analyzing with statistical point of view. Explanatory research deals with the description of the causes of specific phenomena along with prediction of future occurrence of phenomena. In this case of exploratory research, formation of research problem and hypothesis as well as clarification of distinctive concepts is associated with the topic of research. In the present report, descriptive research design has been selected in order to make clarification of the issue (Mackey & Gass, 2015). Moreover, in order to understand the challenges faced for installing the location based system, selection of descriptive research design is appropriate.

Selection of appropriate research strategy helps to pave the correct path of the project. There are four types of research strategies such as action research, survey, case study and interview. Case study is referred as studying real life contexts that consists of analysis of individual behavior related to the specific topic. On the other hand, action research deals with finding the issues where implementation of the solution is possible in the research. In present case, survey and interview are selected. Survey method has been selected for the research because of relating the issue directly with the staffs of an organization. However, attendance tracking system is monitored by managers of an organization. Therefore, interview method has been selected for the research.

Description of Proposed Artifact(s)

Data collection process is one of the important ways for conducting the project. There are two types of data collection process such as primary and secondary data collection process. Secondary data are generally collected from different books, journals as well as internet sources. On the other hand, primary data are collected through quantitative as well as qualitative method I It is vital to analyze the raw data that would be collected from survey and interview.

In order to organize and complete the project in timely and maintaining quality as well as financially responsible manner, it is required to schedule the project in careful way. Effective scheduling of a project acts an important role in order to ensure success of the project. In addition, it is required to keep the project on the right track that can be possible with the help of project schedule. In addition, setting realistic time frames and assigning the resources properly is helpful to manage the quality of the project, it is required to manage and decrease errors involved in the project. It results in minimizing costs as well as increasing satisfaction of the customers or clients. The vital factors are required to include documentation, financial management as well as quality assurance for the project. The project completion plan can be formulated as followed.
