Importance of Fresh Water Supply Management

Discuss about the Water Resource Systems Planning and Management.

The aim of this portfolio to interrelate the population factor with the engineering management how much crucial is it for meeting the needs and requirements of the stakeholders for which the solution is being proposed. I have used the internet as a source of information and accessed the online library available for collecting the data and proceeding research on the water supply management in developing countries. This portfolio is presented considering the secondary data analysis for reaching at a conclusion through identifying the primary researches made in the scholar articles and journals. Fresh water supply management is always a great factor for the development and growth of the country and effectively applying the engineering management in this context. The aim of this report is to reflect on the data or information collected through different primary researches emphasizing on the presentation of a sophisticated alternative solution for the elimination of the identified problem. I have utilized the knowledge in relation with the engineering processes and project management processes those could be utilized in the real world scenario as proposed case study of water supply management. Consideration of population growth and rate of the population growth has also been considered for the execution of the proposed solution.

The engineering method can be helpful in researching over the client brief and based on that proposing alterative solution in manner to introduce an alternative approaches that can be applied for fulfilling the needs and requirements of the customers. Followed by alternatives, evaluation can be proceeded in manner to identify whether the proposed alternatives are helpful in eliminating the issues and problems or not (Kerzner and Kerzner 2017). Other application of the engineering method includes evaluation and checking of the alternatives and recommending the best approach that could be delivered in context of fulfilling the needs and requirements of the clients.

Project Management processes include the management of the activities for delivering the project in an efficient and effective manner through eliminating all the identified risks and issues (Nicholas and Steyn 2017). It is helpful in delivering the project constraints in a systematic manner and accomplishing the necessary output of the organization. However, for the establishment of an efficient and effective project, considerable factor is the engineering management considering the present solution for water supply (Schwalbe 2015). Constant growth of the population will be possibly affecting the project in the long run and affecting the efficiency of the project in future.

Engineering Method for Researching Client Brief and Proposing Alternative Solutions

Secondary data analysis can be driven for the identification of the quantitative value in relation with the client brief (Harrison and Lock 2017). I will be searching different research papers in the context of the “Global Change” and the impact “Global Population and Population Growth” considering the estimation and data collected by the researchers using primary data analysis. These data will be considered for my research for the data collection and presenting the solution based on this scenario. A question table can be created considering all the corners on this subject and try to identify the answers of the questions in various online libraries and data or information available publically (Verzuh 2015). Magazines and newspaper can be collected as the source of information for the estimation of the exact population and needs of the population regarding the water supply and water harvesting. The answers of the questions will be identified through utilizing the collected data other than the questions mentioned in the client brief.

Fresh and purified water supply has been always an issue in the context of the economy development and growth of the countries. In general, the water supply does not meet the demands of every individual in the countries. Some of the individuals might be happy however; the government is not capable of meeting all the demands due to the rate of growth in the population (Walden et al. 2015). The engineering disciplines are also being altered due to the rapid enhancement in the growth of the population and it is a debatable point of concern on how to meet the needs and requirements of the increasing population and supply them required fresh water. The major issue in this context can be stated as the demands and requirements of the large population living in rural areas as the government of the developing countries are not capable of reaching the rural population and supplying the resources (Flemming and Koppelman 2016). Drafting the global picture it can be stated that attempts had been driven for making the arrangements of the fresh water supply in most of the developing countries however; the entire population is not getting the advantages of these implementations. This results in leaving behind a large crowd of the population who are not connected to the cities entirely. The approach of utilizing the desalinated water can be a better approach in manner to increase the rate of the water supply and thus, enhancing the scope of the fresh water management for a very large population (Walker 2015). Understanding the ideas proposed by different writers on water harvesting can be other alternative for meeting the needs of water requirements for the population. The ideas can be collected for proceeding the project and innovation can be added to the same concept for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the identified solution (Chapman 2018). Water harvesting considering the recycling, and rainwater collection for the household purposes or drinking and cooking food purpose can be utilized for meeting the increased demand. These alternatives are capable of ensuring the demand meeting and satisfying the clients and providing them enhanced and effective services.

Project Management Processes for Efficient and Effective Project Delivery

Harvesting rainwater and desalination of the ocean water can be the method for fulfilling the needs and requirements of the population and allowing the rural population to be a part of the society (Louks and Van Beek 2017). The research states that the water supply rate has been less as that compared with the demands of the society and obviously, the water supply is not considering the increase in the population that is leading to the dissatisfaction among the society (Kerzner 2018). Considering the financial situation of the population society can be divided in four class lower, lower middle, upper middle, high class, and they are financially rich as per the class. The class above lower middle are sufficiently getting the availability of the fresh water through establishing personal filters and water purifiers however, talking about the lower middle class and lower class, they are not getting needed facilities due to lack in finance (Postel 2014). The only supportive element for fulfilling these needs and requirements is the government and alternative water supplies are the only option for the government to meet the increased demand of the water supply. Saudi Arabia has recently launched a system for meeting the increased demands of the citizens of Saudi Arabia that has considered all type of water conservation and supplying to them enough fresh water for sustaining their lives in better way (Poff et al. 2016). This approach can be utilized by other countries in manner to establish a network that can harvest the rain - water, utilize desalination process, recycle waste - water generated and combines them for supplying the water supply (Charlie and Christie 2017). The estimation of the population and consumption of the water is the most necessary demand for the feasibility of the proposed methodology as it will be helpful in depicting the estimated requirements of the project. It will include the sum of the harvested water, underground water, and recycled water, negative water consumption and thus, estimation can be made in per gallons (Cooke et al. 2016). Thereafter, the estimation of the available supplies can be made considering the river water and underground water in manner to identify how much water supplies can be handled by these means and thus, establishing new implementation those are capable of ensuring the water supply management (including desalination, rainwater, and other harvesting measures) (Cosgrove and Rijsberman 2014). Rise in population has resulted in many consequences as the technology applications have certainly enhanced to very high level that leads to a statement that recycled water cannot be utilized for drinking purpose. Therefore, it can be recommended to utilize the recycled water for household purpose only.

Secondary Data Analysis for Identifying Quantitative Value

Highly qualified and efficient engineering will be needed for establishing the proposed solution for this big population (Barrow 2016). The engineering should be delivered considering the present population of the countries and rate of growth of the population and thus, propose of the future requirements can be determined considering meeting their needs and requirements. Both the processes related to the project management and practice of engineering methods can be interrelated with each other and can be incorporated sophistically of considered population as a factor for the delivery of the project.

The information related to the water harvest and water supply, the present population, and its rate of the growth can be calculated through publically available data and information on the internet. Peer reviewed journals and reports presented by WHO can be collected those will be presenting the exact da6ta in this context and will be helpful in identifying the numbers and calculation value (Arlinghaus et al. 2016). Since, the identified sources will have quantitative values those are based on the researches made by the UNESCO, WHO, and scholar writers, the identified results can be utilized for executing the secondary data analysis and attempts will be driven for eliminating the gaps identified in the literatures. These results can be utilized for presenting an exact approach for fulfilling the needs and requirements of the population of developing countries (Hammer 2014). These collected data can be helpful in exactly defining the needs, population, and population growth in context with the demand of the fresh water for the entire population. The approaches in relation with the satisfaction of the population can be driven for eliminating the problem of the water supply.

The team members will be identifying the data from different libraries, hence the coincidence of same article will be minimized, and thus, a wide range of the data can be collected. Every individual will need to fill the data in the same file including the article heading, numbers collected, and thus a new value can be generated for evaluating the values concluded by different scholar writers (Postel 2014). Secondary data analysis is always an efficient approach towards receiving at a conclusion on the data and information collected by different researchers. Contribution of the team in data collection is always a concerning point for reaching at a particular decision considering the efficiency and effectiveness of the results. Degree of effectiveness can be enhanced through creating a table where every individual of the team will be recording the data and information results and thus, comparing everyone’s result can be an effective approach (Rajagopalam 2015). Proper communication is another considerable factor for managing the efficiency of the team contribution in this analysis. It is the major component for managing and maintaining the efficiency of any project and report. Being a proper leader is another crucial objective in this context that will be helpful in managing the conflicts and objectives of the project being delivered. A better team leader can promote and motivate the team members towards achieving the objectives and goals of the project and appraising the job of the team members (Arlinghaus et al. 2016). The data collection can be divided among different team members however; restricting the contribution in the output can be a helpful measure for enhancing the wide range of output and based on which recognizing an efficient and effective result.

Alternative Approaches for Meeting Water Supply Demands

Conclusion

Based on the above portfolio it can be concluded that the population and rate of the growth of population is a considerable factor for the development of the community and society considering growth and development of the countries. This portfolio highlighted the facts on how data will be collected for the research and how these are reliable for the consideration in the context of the fresh water supply management. The engineering discipline needs to consider the fact of population growth as a crucial objective for meeting the needs and requirements of the individuals. The assessment methodology proposed in the above report can be a helpful approach towards eliminating the issues being faced while delivering the management of the water supply in developing countries. It is based on the research made on the population and their demands of the water supply and output that can be delivered through the proposed project of water harvesting and recycling. While talking about benefits of the large population, rural population can be considered as a major factor as the development can be determined through identifying how rural population are being benefitted through the proposed project. Project management processes can be related with this project as it will be needing an initiation through analyzing the scenario, and based on that planning can be initiated considering the client brief and alternatives of the client brief. Thereafter an execution plan will be needed for meeting the needs and requirements of the client in long term benefit of the proposed solution.
