1. How the mining and manufacturing companies are making contribution in the growth of Australia?
2. Which industry is performing more effectively and is contributing in economy of the country?
3. What is the role of government in providing a better and effective set of support in the growth of mining and manufacturing industries (Griggs, 2011)?
Mining and manufacturing are one of the growing industries in Australia. Both the industries are providing a huge scope of growth to the organisations available in the market. Both mining and manufacturing industries make an effective set of contribution to the economy of the country. Hence, a research is being conducted which will help in gaining more in depth information related with both the industries. Several literatures will be reviewed and analysis of various set of factors will be done. Researcher will include the information of three mining companies and three manufacturing companies which will help in delivering clearer picture about the industry. The research will also help in understanding that which industry is growing more effectively. Information related with the methods of data collection and the research techniques will be provided by the researcher with the effect of which target users available in the market will be able to gain better information related with all the aspects of the research.
Literature review is the section which will help in gaining information from various secondary sources of information. This section of the research will help in developing more effective and better set of understanding with the research topic (Lodhia & Hess, 2014). Mining and manufacturing are the innovative, productive, competitive and sustainable industries for Australia which are helping the same in developing current and future prosperities of the country.
Mining is one of the most growing sectors in the market of Australia which is helping in the growth of the country and is providing a better set if services as well as opportunities for the growth. According to Francis Emma, 2015 it is being identified that 6,539 Australian mining inventions were filed between the years 1994-2011 (Trudinger, Trudinger & Ralph, 2012). Data resulted with the mining industry indicated METS sector was the primary Filer which was followed by the operating miners and then it was followed by the publicly funded entities. Reason behind it was that the operating minors available in the market were primarily concerning the innovative and new methods of processing the Ores, especially in the process of refining of the ores and production of the Iron or Steel.
Researchers have researched that Australia is the country which has a world’s largest reserves of lead, nickel, uranium and zinc (Sunderland & Selin, 2013). It is being estimated that the minerals industry had contributed at least 10% to the GDP of Australia in 2012-2013. Industry has employed over the quarter of the million Australians. In the recent years a boom is being undertaken in the mining industries of Australia which has created a high level of the demand for the development of technology and systems (Palit, 2015). In these technology and system industries many of the companies have indulged in the lucrative enterprise in both national as well as in international market.
Mining Industry
There are many of the mining industries which are growing in present time in the market of Australia (Osborn, 2014). Some of the most known names in the mining industry are BHP Billiton, Greenland mineral and energy Ltd. and Rio Tinto. These are some of the mining industries which are growing on the regular scale in Australia and are providing new and effective job opportunities for the people of Australia. These are the companies which are also making an effective set of contribution in the growth of the economy (Nulman & Özkula, 2016).
Above images contains the information of the income statement and taxation expenses of BHP Billiton with the effect of which it could be evaluates that the financial position of the company is going down (Kokkoris & Kühnen, 2013). Comparing the annual report of 2016 with the annual report of 2015 nit could be evaluated that BHP Billiton’s financial position has been affected and it has incurred with the loss due to which the tax rate of the company has also got affected. In this situation it could be evaluated that the company will have to focus upon its profit margin and so will have to develop the strategies with the effect of which it could manage its losses and could generate profit in near future. This will help the company in sustaining and managing its position in the market of mining (Hughes & Rudolph, 2011).
Below are the consolidated statement of the profit and loss and other comprehensive income of Greenland Mineral and Energy Ltd. With the help of the data collected it could be evaluated that the financial position of the company is effective. It could be evaluated that in comparison with the year 2015 net assets of the company has increased and total liabilities of the company have declined (Griggs, 2011). This shows that the company is performing effectively and is working on the path of success as well as sustainability. It is being evaluated that company is growing and have the strategy to maintain its position in the mining industry.
With the help of the information gathered it could be evaluated that profit margin of Rio Tinto has got affected. Comparing with the year of 2015 it could be evaluated that net debts of the company has increased. Increase in the debts leads to affect the growth of the company which has a huge impact on its position. Hence, it is required that Rio Tinto should work towards to develop the strategies with the effect of which it could sustain in the market and could attain success (Weng, Mudd, Martin & Boyle, 2012).
Consolidated Statement of Profit and Loss and Other Comprehensive Income
Manufacturing industry is the growing sector of Australia in which there are various set of products and services which are being manufactured by the companies. It is being evaluated that the mining companies available in the market indulge in the mining practices and provide the ores and raw materials to the companies (Trudinger, Trudinger & Ralph, 2012). Manufacturing companies available in the market purchase the raw material and goods from these mining industries then they indulge in the manufacturing the finished products. Then these finished products are being sold in the national as well as international market.
Manufacturing industry is showing a positive growth in the market of Australia and is providing better and effective set of opportunities for employment (Palit, 2015). It was evaluated that the total contribution of the manufacturing industries in the GDP of Australia was 6.5% in the year 2013-2014. There are certain big names working in the manufacturing industries they are Amcor, GWA Group and Pental. These are some of the manufacturing companies growing rapidly in the economy and are making an effective set of contribution in the growth of the economy as well as generating employment for the population living in Australia (Sunderland & Selin, 2013).
Evaluating the consolidated income statement of Amcor it could be analysed that the statutory profit of the company has decreased due to which the position of the company has also got affected. It is required that proper set of strategies should be developed by Amcor so as to stay in the run and to ensure that it could sustain in the highly competitive market.
With the help of the data collected from the secondary sources of information it could be evaluated that company has remained indulged in the activities of enhancing its profit in every financial year. It is being evaluated that the company has generated an effective set of profit and is working on the strategies with the effect of which it could sustain and attain competitive advantage in the market (Mudd, 2010).
With the help of the financial data of Pental it could be evaluated that net sales of the company has gone through a downfall in its sale. It could be evaluated that the company should focus upon its sales and should work towards to enhance its revenue. Such type of activity will provide a better opportunity for growth in near future (Kokkoris & Kühnen, 2013).
Financial Results of Rio Tinto
A proposal for the research is prepared so as to gather appropriate set of information related with manufacturing company and the mining industries (Hughes & Rudolph, 2011). This research will help in developing better set of understanding with the effectiveness of mining and manufacturing industries in Australia.
Methodology is the section which will help in developing a better set of understanding with the data collected by the researcher. In these research secondary sources of data collection is being used by the researcher. These are the sources in which information is gathered from the books available in libraries, various articles on the industries and for mass information internet is used by the researcher. Information related with the companies will be collected from the secondary sources and with the help of analysis same will be presented in the finding and analysis section of the report (Goodland, 2012).
Mixed method will be used by the researcher in which both qualitative and quantitative information will be delivered by the researcher. Availing both qualitative and quantitative data will help the people in developing clear picture regarding the research topic and will help in making appropriate set of decision regarding the industries.
All the ethical aspects will be taken into consideration by the researcher so as to gather the information. It is being taken into consideration that the content of the research will not have any impact on the culture, values and beliefs of the people (Balletto & Furcas, 2011).
Conclusion
At the end it could be evaluated that both mining and manufacturing industries are performing effectively in the market. They are making an effective set of contribution for the growth of the country as well as people living over there. It could be evaluated that in comparison to manufacturing industries, mining industries are performing more effectively in the market. It could be evaluated that mining industries should work towards to develop effective set of strategies with the effect of which it could sustain and could help in the growth aspects of the country. Hence, it is required that further research should include more in depth information related with the mining industry as it has a huge scope for the researcher. More effective decision making will be done by indulging in such type of research.
