Learning Experience and Target Profession
In this reflective diary I am sharing my learning experience what I have gained throughout the lectures and seminars about recruitment and selection process which has helped me a lot as a candidate. Furthermore, in this reflective diary I am also sharing my target profession in which I will shar my aim for which industry I am interested and in which job role I want my occupation. In this I will also sharing my competencies and strengths which I already have and also which need to be developed in relation to my target profession. In last I will also share my action plan in which I will mention some skills which I will to develop to attain my target profession and also to gain further success in my professional career.
These learnings and module of management skills partakes an extremely engaging atmosphere. The module helps in understanding about the recruitment and selection process and also recognize approaches and resources which support improving scholars’ skills and evolving one’s professional job. To finish a module like this over online learning had led to some difficulty. During learning this module, we have also assigned a job to prepare a portfolio on the approaches of recruitment and selection in any business corporation.
In the beginning of this module, I was confused about this two terms recruitment and selection as I am considering these two terms as a same meaning but after learning about this module, I have understood the correct meaning of this terms which is recruitment is a procedure in which individual are offered selection in a corporation. It is when potential personnel are examined for and are then stimulated to apply for occupations inside the corporation. Thus, it is procedure of attracting potential candidates for a job role. Whereas as per the learning selection is the process of identifying the appropriate applicant for the vacant position. Section is the strategy to place right people in the right job. Recruitment and Selection both have a set of process to hire the best candidates from the pool of candidates (Hamza et al. 2021).
In lectures and seminars, I have learned about the process almost every organization adopt for the recruitment. The Recruitment process starts from the step of identifying and analysing the hiring requirements in which it has been examine that it is a fresh vacancy or in a place of some person who have leave the organization recently. Moreover, in this phase job specification will be examines which comprise of knowledge, skills and experience required for the vacant position. The next step in recruitment process is preparing the job description which comprise of the determining the duties and responsibilities of the vacant position. In this module I have learned that how to prepare a job description which comprise of duties & responsibilities, qualifications & skills, location and compensation, perks and other benefits. The third steps of the recruitment procedure are search of potential people for the vacant position. In this step the employer and organization attract the people and motivate them for apply for the position (Kanagavalli, Seethalakshmi and Sowdamini, 2019). As per the learning I have learned various strategies companies or employer adopts to attract talent for the position which are internal referrals, advertising, social networking platforms, campus placements and career fairs. In our lectures and seminars, we have learned through various examples of organization how their go with the whole hiring process. Also, where recruitment ends the selection process starts which comprise of receiving the applications, screening of applications, employment test, interviews, reference verification, medical examinations and final selection which include sending offering letters.
Competencies and Strengths
This module management skills have provided us a vision into how business/corporations recruit, and develops few of the abilities/competency’s employers are observing for when hiring the fresher and experience people. This module learning has allowed me to analyse and assess the different recruitment and selection strategies use by the organization and employers and also delivered us with the tools to efficiently manage our career during our education at university and after completion of the graduation. The module also implements an extremely practical method of teaching and simplifying our learning on important parts of management decision taking comprising the problem recognition and identification in the setting of handling teams and people. Moreover, this module has help me in the guidance in progressing my employability which also includes enhancing the probability of securing my Placement or initial job. This module has been designed to effectively support us in our application for placements, internships and this learning will also help me in management of my job search. At last, this, module has also help me in learning the significance of interpersonal skills and competencies in contemporary workplaces and profession management.
From the childhood I enjoy and love to work with people. Moreover, I love to manage the new challenges and I am also good in making connections and networks. HR is a platform where daily new and different challenges come because of that HR have to give their 100% potential which make them more experienced and valuable for the organization. Certainly, I am motivated towards following a career in the field of Human Resource. Great businesses are made of great persons. And whether you get such persons onboard, and succeed to retain them in the corporation, depends mainly on human resource. One of my known family members is working at Tesco Supermarket, UK and he told me about the positive working environment and benefits they are having while working at Tesco has also encouraged me join Tesco for my profession and I want to join the HR department of Tesco. I have also researched many things about the organisation as I am interested to join Tesco in future. Tesco is an international retailer while having more than 400000 employees globally and the Tesco is operating in around 12 countries (Tesco, 2021).
Tesco basically serves customers with affordable and sustainable food and other grocery items. Tesco have also developed different programs such as Apprenticeships, graduates and Internships in which they provide on the job trainings, and workshops which will help freshers in develop their skills like building your network, adaptable thinking and leading the change as well as looking afterwards your wellbeing. Moreover, as fresher if I will join Tesco for internship or my future job role, Tesco also offers graduates and fresher a competitive salary of £28,000 - £32,000, reliant on the programme, and a permanent contract. Moreover, the company also has its other benefits and pension plans for graduates.
While learning during the period of covid-19 has led to shift the learnings from face-to-face to online learning, which has emerged me into an ample more organized person. While also learning at university about management and other management related concepts I have become more confident person as now I can give presentation in front of people in proper manner also learned about many management skills which are necessary for my future career. As since the being I am good at making connection and networks during the learning period at university I have made some new friends and connection with mentors who will help me in further development of my skills and competencies. The learnings of this unit have improved my abilities and knowledge when it originates to the selection and recruitment procedures. As in future my aim is to work in HR department thus this recruitment and selection skills will help me in my future profession.
One of my key skills and competencies I partake is Teamwork. Teamwork is significant for almost every career, since teams which work well together are extra melodious and additional effective. Teamwork provides corporations and workforces the capability to recognize more regarding each other at workplace and learn how to work effectively and efficiently together. Having the teamwork skill will also support me in my future profession since human resource representative requires to be able to recognize the significant basics of teamwork as this will support me in supporting executives and teams around my corporation. Another significant competency which I partake is leadership since I have participated in many sport, competition and other projects where I have developed my leadership skills by leading the teams. Leadership capabilities are particularly significant if you are observing to growth into an administration position. Even if not, companies still need to perceive that you are the kind of individual who can progress in their corporation and encourage others. My leadership skill is also one of the reasons I have selected the field of human resource as human resources executive's decisions meaningfully disturb a huge number of individuals, the capability to balance the strengths and weaknesses of dissimilar choices is a main skill in a human resources profession. For instance, hiring and firing choices can influence numerous individuals in a corporation. Also learning the management skills module help me in further development of my skills. Some of the skills which I need to develop and which is also important for my future target position are decision making, communication, Emotional intelligence and Creative & innovative mindset.
As I have mentioned in my competencies and strength that I need to develop three key skills which is significant for my future job role which I have aim to achieve. The first skills which I need to attain is my communication skills which is significant in each and every field to convey you messages to other peoples. In HR field communication matter a lot since in every stage of HR work communication must be needed. I will improve my communications skills in around 3-4 months period by attending debates competitions, more teamwork, and through attending some online classes. Furthermore, communication skills also develop through active listening which I have to also work for. Another skill which I need to develop is emotional intelligence abilities which denotes to the how efficiently they manage their interpersonal skills and the emotions of others. Emotional intelligence is very significant in the workplace to decrease conflict and make an extra stable and efficient workplace setting. Thus, it is important for me to develop this skill for being an effective and efficient HR in my future profession. To improve my emotional intelligence skills, I will practice self-awareness and social awareness activity, and also start practicing emotions in around 2-3 months. The last skills I have aimed to achieve is creative and innovative mindset. This skill is important to prepare innovative perks and strategies for the employees and their retention. I will improve my creative and innovative mindset in around 4-5 months period by start observing new or different things, news and events. Also, I will expand my circle of friends because socializing with different people helps in developing the thinking outside the box and also start reading the books and will look for some game and sports which will help me in developing my creative and innovative mindset which will further help me in my future career or profession which is HR field.
In conclusion, this essay consists of various part in which the first part I have shared my learning about the module management skills in which I have learned about the recruitment and selection process and also this module helps me learning about various skills and competencies require for my future profession. In the next part this reflective diary I have mentioned my target profession in which I wish to join the Tesco supermarket HR department. Furthermore, in the next part I have mentioned about my core competencies which I have such as being an organised person, teamwork and leadership skills. In the last part of this essay, I have mentioned about the skills and competencies which I need to develop and which is also important for my future profession which is being an HR at Tesco. The skills I have identified is communication skills, emotional intelligence and creative & innovative mindset.
