The assessment requires you to reflect on your results of two personality tests, referring to two theories.

In this paper, you will also reflect on how you experience emotion and consider how this relates to your personality. Finally, you will explore how the way you experience emotion and your personality may influence your practice as a social worker in the future. You are expected to use examples throughout your reflective paper and academic references to support your description and explanation.

This assessment requires you to first complete two online personality tests:

  • The ‘Myer-Briggs’ online personality test: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp
  • The ‘Big 5’ personality test: http://www.outofservice.com/bigfive

Personality and Its Definition

The personality is one of the main human characteristics that differ one human being from other. According to many researcher it is termed to be a set of characteristics which relates to cognitions, behaviours along with the patterns of emotion which is generally developed from the environmental and biological factors (Lewin, 2013). It is controversial to state that there is a prescribed definition for personality but many critics also acknowledge it on the basis of motivation and psychological interactions with the individual’s environment (Fairbairn, 2013). Personality of one is also believed to be a key aspect in the prediction of that individual’s behaviour (Rogers, 2013). The concept of personality is observed to be significantly influenced by the habits and learning of an individual (Cervone & Pervin, 2015). The paper is focused on assessing individual personality and the evaluation of how the emotion is experienced. The paper also analyses two personality tests in summarizing the important findings of my personality.

The Big 5 personality test generally depends on the OCEAN model of personality analysis where the aspects of the evaluation are Open-mindedness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Negative Emotionality ("The Big Five Project - Personality Test", 2018).

The evaluation enabled me to assess my personality where I found that I score bit less in the Open-Mindedness with a percentile score of 20. This acknowledges that my behaviour and the human characteristics reflects that I am bit close minded in nature. I am bit conventional where I usually feel limited when there is any sort of action needed to acknowledge a change.

I score significantly low in the aspect conscientiousness with 10 and it describes that I am significantly disorganized in terms of handling any situation. Along with this the low score also specifies that I am significantly negligent in my nature with significant limitation in acknowledging responsibility.

The extraversion score of 63 reflects that I am a sociable person who loves to make friends and enjoy other’s company. Along with this, the score also reflects that I am fun loving person and I do talk a lot.

My score in the agreeableness is 21 which specifies that I am bit rude and harsh in my approach and I do not hesitate to express my irritation. This also describes my critical nature.

I score significantly high in the aspect of negative emotionality and it reflects that I usually get significantly nervous. Along with this I worry a lot about the incidents I experience and do have the feeling insecurity in my nature as well.

The Myer Briggs is also one of the reputed tool for the test of personality of human beings. The result of the test generally lies in one of the 16 types where I belonged to the ISFJ which is Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging ("Personality test based on C. Jung and I. Briggs Myers type theory", 2018). The test results define that I generally belong to the group which has the desire to serve others and likes the feeling of being needed. The general give and take policy is not something that we relate a lot. We the ISFJs like to be working without getting involved in any sort of political and moral controversy. We are usually unappreciated for our work and there is a general tendency that people around us take us for granted. Apart from this we generally do not believe in claiming rewards for our excellence in work even if we deserved better as we consider that it is wrong to want a reward for doing the job. In the general workplace we are significantly accurate and follow the proper method in operating. We do have good analytical skills and sharp memory. We are incredibly good in smaller group interactions because of our patience and sympathetic approach towards other while interacting. This is instrumental in making pleasant and trust-worthy co-workers but we seemed to be considerably limited in supervisory roles. We are significantly capable of creating strong loyalties but that generally are individual rather than being institutional. We strongly focus on ethical operations and are significantly possessive towards our family or the loved ones.

The Big 5 Personality Test

The Myer Briggs analysis significantly justifies the concept of social cognitive theory where the theory specifies that the acquisition of an individual’s knowledge will be directly related to the societal interactions and experiences (Bandura, 2014). The presence of the media interactions will be significantly irrelevant in this assessment. The theory states that the learning of the behaviour by the individuals need not be accomplished by the try of their own rather it can be achieved from the replication of the actions conducted by others. The theory also specifies that the people generally remember the sequence of the behaviours or the significances of the behaviours in order to guide the successive behaviours. In the Myer Briggs analysis, the test result type ISFJ makes it pretty clear that my general approach while interacting with others basically follows a detailed and patient hearing of the events that happened with them and the procedure also includes certain level of showing of the sympathy towards them. This generally gives me the assessment of what happened with them without experiencing.

The humanistic psychology theory also produced a detailed explanation of the test results gathered in the Big 5 personality tests. The theory generally specifies the individual’s strive towards the self-actualization (Schneider, Pierson & Bugental, 2014). The self-actualization is the process of recognising and conveying the individual capabilities and inventiveness (Frana, 2013). In a nut shell the theory projects a detailed explanation of how the personality of an individual is shaped. The analysis from the Big 5 personality tests make it visible that I am bit conventional and ac significant amount of creativity. Along with this the analysis also reflects that I am not a person on whom people will easily depend. But I am sociable person who can make friends and loves their company as well. The analysis also helped me to get the assessment that I am bit rude and strict in my approach of dealing with others. Apart from this the assessment is also helpful for me in the realization of mine that I am significantly nervous in handling different situations.

Emotion is something that each and every individual relates with whether someone shows it less or someone portrays it in an excessive manner. I am significantly influenced by the concept of emotion. From the above test results even, it is pretty clear that I am an emotional person who generally gets affected by it in a significant manner. At times I observe that I even feel for the people whom I do not even know like the street children or the people residing in the slum areas. From the Big 5 test results it is pretty clear that I cannot control my anger and do behave in a significantly strict manner. Under pressure I am a nervous person as well and that is visible from the test results. I tend to worry a lot as the emotion tends to get the better of me under those circumstances. The feeling of insecurity is also a reflection of the fact that the emotion tends to force me into a zone where I start thinking of loosing something. Apart from this the Myer Briggs analysis is also instrumental I portraying the emotional attachment that I have with my family or the loved ones.

The experience of the emotions that forces me to feel for the people whom I do not even know is instrumental in influencing me to operate as a social worker in near future. The social and economic structure of the slum people is considerably low and their style of living tends to make me emotional. The knowledge that I had from the session with them was significant in my understanding that the right for the education seems to be a luxury to them under the economic situation that they are generally in. The analysis of their communications and the emotional expressions make it understandable to me that the source of income is a genuine concern for the people which is barring the basic education and the normal childhood of the children belonging to the slum area. Along with the assessment of the challenges that the people of the slum areas are facing, I was able to form a framework for the solution which is creating a Non-Governmental Organization for the business conduction of the handcrafted products that will manufactured by the people of the slum areas. This will reduce the concern of the people in terms of finding the sources of income and will give them sufficient capability to send their children to the schools or learning centres. This will be able to improve the social and economic structure of the slum areas.

On a concluding note it can be said that the self-assessment tests were significant in assessing my personality and the test results were crucial in portraying my personality to others. This will give me the idea of the gaps in my personality which I need to compensate and apart from this, it will be instrumental for others in knowing who I am or what kind of a person I am.
