The report discuss about the challenges which are faced by the company during the process of recruitment. For every organization employees are the main element by which company can achieve success in the business. This paper discuss about the hurdles which is faced by KFC. As the employment retention rate is higher in KFC (Kamolsiri, 2015). It is the world second largest restaurant chain which is situated in 123 countries. The founder of KFC is colonel Harland sanders and it is establishes in 1952. KFC is a very famous and popular food chain among all the age group of people. The chain is the subsidiary of Yum brands also the chicken is the most popular and tasty product of the company. KFC focuses on franchising concept and the first franchisee was opened in Utah. This paper covers the problems which are faced by KFC and also the strategies which company should adopt to overcome the problems (Trivedi, 2016).
It is a process of appointing suitable candidates for job within an organization. Recruitment plays an important part in Human Resource Management. It is a process in which organization take new employees in the organization. Without employees no organization can achieve its goals and targets. So, for recruitment process human resource team is employed who take the qualified candidates in the organization.KFC also have human resource team who conducts the recruitment process. KFC is in 20,000 locations globally in 123 countries and territories. It is one of the first American food chain to expand internationally by opening outlets in Canada, Mexico. KFC is famous for its slogan which is “Finger licking good”. The demand for the workforce increases because of higher employee retention in food industry (Hossain, 2016). Different challenges are faced by the company at time of recruitment. Company hires those people who are qualified according to the qualification. If the recruitment is done effectively than the company is liable to achieve its objectives and goals. If the employees are efficient enough then objectives and goals can be achieved easily by the organization (Ahmad and Richard, 2014). For recruitment company should follow proper management criteria so that the recruitment can be done efficiently and in smooth way. Only people who are suitable for the job are given chance to work with the organization. It is an important part of the organization because everything depends upon this only (Huang and Li, 2015).
In points below it shows the different challenges and problems which are faced by KFC at the time of recruitment and also strategies adopted to overcome that problem.
KFC has the largest food chain and also company is having high turnover rate of employment which increases the problem of Human resource management team. The stability of employee in KFC is reduced. The people are leaving the job very soon. So by this the negative impact is there on the people who are seeking for job. People are not taking interest in giving interview as they see that there is no stability of employees in the organization. The people also consider the reviews given by the employee who are working in the organization previously. So it is giving negative impact on the image of the organization.
Challenges in Recruitment Process
KFC has to focus on the turnover rate of employee because this is affecting the recruitment of the company. The employee who has the qualification is not even thinking to give interview just because of this image of the company. So it is stopping the qualified employees to join the organization. At the time of recruitment human resource team is facing the problem. Company should do campus placement as it is beneficial for the company. The potential person can be employed by doing campus placement. They should also focus on people who are new in career this can enhance the employees stability in the organization. For this they are giving advertisements in newspaper to attract the job seekers towards the business. Proper working environment should be given to employees working in the organization than only it will enhance the stability of employees in the organization (Rijal, 2015).
It is the total time in which employee has to work in a real wage. To be a part of food industry the labour needs skills like the way you talk to customers , the way you handle the queries of customer, the way you handle the complains . To be a part of the organization these skills are required to be there with the person. At the time of recruitment the human resource team examines the skills the person possesses. They examine the person that he is capable for doing the work or not. They hire trained and skilled person who can perform their task effectively and efficiently. But the KFC tries to employ people at less wage. The wages should be given according to the qualification and by seeing the skills of the person. Wage problem also arises and becomes a challenge for recruiting people.
KFC should give employment to those keep who possess skill required and should pay high amount of salary according to their skill and qualification and also according to the time given by them. Company started giving assistance related to dental, medical etc. This enhances the stability of employees in the company and will help to reduce the challenges in recruitment procedure. Some issues which bring challenges in recruitment procedure are demographic issues which are related to socio and personal characteristics such as age, gender, income level.
The workers who are working in KFC fights for their income to be given on time. They get less than medium wage. By this motivation level of employees’ decreases and leads to retention of employees. The company recruits only those people who are to work at low wages because they don’t want to give more to the employees. The reviews which are given by the employees are mostly related with the issue of overload and delay in payment of salary. Everything depends upon the salary of the employees. If the company is offering attractive package then every efficient employee is attracted towards the company. So the salary should be good enough so that employees work with full dedication. It plays an important role to increase the efficiency of the employees (Mylonakis and Evripiotis, 2016).
Business Image and Stability of Employees
KFC is giving fewer wages to the employees. They should increase the wages of people or employees according to their skill and qualification. They should also introduce some motivational schemes which induces customer to stay for long in the company and to work with full dedication. Also company should listen to each employee problem and give them the solution so that employee can work with efficiency and can give effective results. The fair wage should be given, without any unnecessary reduction in the wage. There should be no discrimination in relation to wages with the employees. The employees should be rewarded according to the work done by them and should be given acceptable income as a salary (Torres and Mejia, 2017).
Today’s generation focus only on money. They start earning very early. Some people do part time jobs or just do job to earn some pocket money. This gives negative impact on the business or organizations. Organizations hire them and they leave the job very early it give negative effect on the working of the company. Nowadays the requirement of the companies are high so they employ people part time and also for seasonal work. This creates a great burden and challenge to human resource team. The employees in the organization work according to them so to retain them in the organization the incentives should be given to them so that it motivates them to achieve the organizational objectives (Healy, 2016).
As the leading generation change the job from time to time. So to retain them in the company the company should provide effective bonus which is given only when they complete 3 months. This strategy is adopted by KFC. Three months is not a long period but in case of food industry it is a long period and by this company earn maximum turnover. These strategies attract more and more people towards the company (Siew and Hoe, 2016).
It is a relationship between the wages of worker and the working hour of labor. This creates problem at the time of recruitment. As KFC don’t pay well to their employees and also they don’t pay extra if there is doing overtime. So this give reduces the morale and motivation level of employees and leads to instability of workers. The timings of shift are also more as compared to the wages which are paid to them. If the employees are ready to work in night shifts then the considerable amount of wage should be given to them. Nowdays finding efficient people for the work is very difficult task so to overcome efficient policies should be introduced by the organization so that the company can achieve the targets and objectives of the company (Harrington, et al.2017).
Company should pay the wages according to the work done by the employees. If they are working overtime or in night shift the wages should be considerably high as compared to wages of others. This increases the motivation level and morale of the employees and then they work with full dedication. The shift time should also not more than the maximum time. The company should also give attractive incentives which retain employees in the organization. If all these facilities are given by employee it increases the working of employee and they work with full dedication. Company should also introduce new promotional tools by this it induces many people to join or give in interview in the organization (Flessas, et al.2015), The company should provide good working environment so that people can work happily and can give their best towards their work.
Recommended Strategy
There are many challenges which company faces at the time of recruitment. There are many factors on which company should focus to enhance the capability of employees. The company should make effective strategies so that the goals can be achieved easily. Company should also provide higher wage as compared to other companies because then only it will attract the people towards the company. Company should also focus on the image and should try to maintain good image in front of everyone. (Magnusson,et al,2013).Company should provide fair wages to all the people working in the organization. Also the company should provide good working environment so that people can retain more in the business. The factor should be consider to solve all the problems that is the company image should be improved so that company can get more and more prospective employees. If company considers all these factors then it will able to achieve growth and success in the business. A good working environment should be given to the employees so that people feel good and give their best to achieve the organizational goals and objectives (Chang, 2013).
