Why did the expert see the problem as one linked to ‘Knowledge Management (KM)’?

Q1. Why did the expert see the problem as one linked to ‘Knowledge Management (KM)’?

Knowledge Management is a mere topic to be understood .Many have tried over it and came with a different opinion every time .Hundreds of definitions had been published over which only sixty-two of them has been considered as the perfect ones.

It was stated that Knowledge Management is an astounding mixture of stratagem, tackles and modus operandi which provides the vast ranges of knowledge to understand its management. Knowledge Management is the perception which has came up along two decades back that is 1990. Many will have an outlet that to take up the organizations details and explain overwhelmed but it not the picture. Knowledge Management represents the course to capture knowledge, distribute it and to use it effectively.

As it is stated by Gartner Group (1998) which describes Knowledge Management as the discipline for promoting the integral approach to spot out, to arrest, evaluate, repossess and go through the assets of the venture. The possessions include the catalog, the credentials, the strategy, the protocol and the unique look-over capability and knowledge about their individual works.

Snapshot was properly organized by Sam snapshot that had set up the perfect key for every lock, i.e. every staff has his or her piece of work and the company was on its flight. But every flight has to come down so was the case with Snapshot. The company had to pay for Sam’s death. Jim, grandson of Sam, took over to Snapshot or the decline of Snapshot was on the way. Jim exercised a huge lot on one work that created a mess all over the place. That presents the first stage towards the declination of Snapshot. The retirement of the original staff sets awful feedback and to this the resignation of the current personnel, nothing more was needed to take a rain check towards Snapshot. At this the only door to knock was a consultant. The consideration was taken over every link whether it is the survival condition of the company or cross-examining every staff. After grilling out the stuffs the Knowledge Management (KM) was the key to unlock the solutions. Snapshot needs to be managed from the ground level and leadership was also casted as momentous challenge.

Q2. Identify the types of knowledge which can be found in Snapshot Industries. Consider which elements is strategic knowledge.

Identify the types of knowledge which can be found in Snapshot Industries. Consider which elements is strategic knowledge.

With reference to the literature of Kandadi (2006) the massive dawn of Snapshot Industry is due to the lack of Knowledge Management techs which indeed lent to an unstable production. According to experts overview the drawback of Snapshot should be replenish by adaptation of KM conciliation along the accordance of IT based solutions which refer it the employee qualification of adjustment and categorization of their skills of data optimization along that fulfill their lack of knowledge through bug fixing options plus proper dealing flair. The confidential concept was interrupted as due to the dependence on employee which resulted in uneven managing framework, through which the data was not rationalize up to the guidelines of Knowledge Management scaffold which ensure effective implementation of value based labor that offer consolidated pay rolls which lend as instance action to progress.  The major lend down of the Snapshot Industry configure that the company was occupied with few eminence employee and others were inferior to them, who lack knowledge concerned and basically dependent on the eminence ones that look over every sort of management. This data constitute the main drawback of Snapshot Industry penetrate towards as congestion through data executive and blockage within the habitual course of deployment. These entire tactics could be resolve over a platform which technically provide adoptions for smooth implementation, in other words there is a need for the installation of Knowledge Management platform through IT diplomacy to reform executive convent gateway of perform necessary objectives.

The Basics of Snapshot Industry should be laid upon Knowledge Management tactics along its environment and deployment of its edifice through Strategic Knowledge Management focusing out the basic embracement of objectives into documented field of toil and elongate route and propagate ways for the attainment of our objectives. Paying attentions on two types of base upon which the Snapshot Industry work through configure the category Explicit Knowledge and Tacit Knowledge. Putting forward both pays emphasis that Explicit Knowledge it is a part of thought that cannot be documented or shared, and the other one Tacit Knowledge is that which people found difficult to understand the usage of their expertise in particular art of field. To resolve these entire conclusions it is considered to adopt Knowledge Management sustainable environment which subsidies solution to execute your Explicit Knowledge to dub it into a uniform structure for the implementation of your objectives. And the other part of concerned that is Tacit Knowledge which resolves this conclusion through helpful consideration to put forward employee ability. Concluding entire optimization enlistment of endeavor through the means of visualization, operation, achievements and motive should be done for a stable management along future development.

Why were the resignations and retirements a problem? What could be done about this?

Q3. Why were the resignations and retirements a problem? What could be done about this?

Bagshaw (2000) concluded to this statement that the new 30-year-old MBA graduated boss, reduced the number of products and increases the production of individual product. The new staff of 600 workers tried to match up. The old generation and the young generation faced problem regarding the work. The old workers weren’t able to understand the new system of computers installed and its functioning. Also, they weren’t able to convey the mode of working as it was more of in their mind than on words. This led to great stress over those old men, leading to accidents, absenteeism and turnover. The company started to face a new great problem, resignations and retirements of the key people who were the stepping stones for the company. In a year Jim saw 60 of the 200 original staff had retired. The problem of them was that they weren’t able to see their role of service for the company anymore. The cost of education and the decline of productivity was another major factor that affected the company and made the old workers to resign and retire much before time.  This was leading to company’s destruction as the rival Orion Enterprises saw an opportunity to raise their expansion over the field. The new workers also started to resign as they didn’t know what to do and how, without the expert old workers and the company, once the emperor was at the beginning to face crisis. So, they decided to join other firms and enterprises offering them better then what they were getting earlier. The only suggestion to Jim, which would have been the help to his company, would be to use knowledge management system and prevent the employee to give resignation. The knowledge management system helps to inherit the knowledge from the experts to young hands, in a very efficient way. The old skilled workers should not be considered as a burden as they are the ones who would make the hands of young amateur’s skilled ones. Jim wished to make more profit out of the old and made to run in a race in which they never had earlier participated. As a result, they were left behind and they ultimately had to quit.

Q4. Identify the reasons for the consultant’s concern over leadership. How has Jim’s leadership affected the business? Can you see some way in which Jim could improve his practices?

Identify the reasons for the consultant’s concern over leadership. How has Jim’s leadership affected the business? Can you see some way in which Jim could improve his practices?

As denoted by Rigby (2009) the Snapshot Company was on the top of market under the leadership of Sam. Sam was an extraordinary person as he outstand the business on his shoulders along with his 200 workers and his key factor- predictability. Predictability was the key to his success and his company as they all knew their role in the company and how to work perfectly. But the great crisis to the company and its staff members came when Mr. Sam died. The sway of a great entrepreneur was over, and a new reign of a young blood was about to begin. Ultimately, the new leader wasn’t able to take forward the company as his grandfather did, and all started to leave the job. The new boss, Jim, hired a consultant to answer the question that why all left? Consultant after talking to a batch of workers found out that the basic problem was the office environment that changed too much in every small span of time due to which no one got the time to adjust. Organization also started to extend too steadily that old and young generation together wasn’t able to work properly. The management system was replaced with comfort technology which made a problem in communication between the generations and company. This led ill-fitted people to leave the company. Jim’s leadership wasn’t the best. He made such arrangements to improve the production that led opposition between the old and new generation. He made strategies regarding offering bonus, to increase the production and profit. But it turned out to be against him as it led to decline in the production and resignation by workers. Jim could improve his practices if he changes the way he leads. He should have understood the importance of skilled and old workers and should have respected them for their work. He should have understood his employees and how to manage them wisely. Also he should use Knowledge Management system as it would greatly benefit all with the skill required for the workers. It will offer young talents to discover the skill to its roots and the quality of the ancestor time could be possible to achieve at present time and also in future.

Q5. In your opinion, which areas most need to reflect knowledge management principles? Why?

From the study of Frost, Alan (2010)it can be concluded that the company under Sam was a great success as he was a great leader and knew the importance of their skilled workers and didn’t believed in changing them with young amateur ones. All had the relaxation of time and work, which gave workers the freedom to work upon their sectors independently without anyone’s interference. Sam carried the company and made it one of the best in market. All staff members felt proud to let everyone know that 95% of their staff was working with Sam for more than 20 years which was a great achievement and a milestone for company’s success through all these years. But when the boss changed, the company faced its destruction. A major problem was lack of knowledge management principles. Jim was one of those who didn’t saw the talent in the old workers and ultimately made such situations which led to resignation of them. He should have understood his employees and need of knowledge management principles to be applied properly. The sharing of knowledge in a company should be in hierarchy. One can not wish to change the system all at once. The new system should be fully prepared to do the work perfectly like the old one, and then only we can change the old system with new one. Similarly, in an organization, he should have let the young generation gain knowledge about the task perfectly from the skilled old experts of the field, and then only we can wish to replace them. But Jim did it all at once.  Areas where skill is involved to produce something, which can only be done with perfection, otherwise, it would be a total mess which requires knowledge management principle. One should opt for modern technology for knowledge with an aim to maximize their production. Jim also tried to bring computer technology to the organization but failed to manage it properly. It became more of a burden to the workers. He should have given time to old ones to understand the working of computer and cope up with the young generation to work efficiently. If he would have understood the importance of knowledge management, his company wouldn’t have faced destruction. Areas like where an organization faced problems, can be tackled by KM. KM is a sector where a company hesitates to invest upon but it teaches the company to improve of many areas where it is lacking and could have gained more!

Q6. Do you think that KM is a strategy in this case? Why or why not?

As stated by Koenig (2002) Literature of Knowledge Management is couched but unequivocal. The first step of KM is to provide the information of the organization to each member through the porch using the system of content management. Knowledge Management’s framework is to capture the entrenched knowledge present in the person and make it obvious. Knowledge Management is the solution to every problem. Knowledge Management lays stress on the particular topic and resolves it to its best. KM survey the information about an organization which helps in digging out the cause easily and hence taking it up from the root cause.

Knowledge Management ponders upon knowledge as authentic aptitude instead of something elusive. On implementing it facilitate a security to the firm and utilize its knowledge to enhance the development of the firm and utilize its knowledge to contemplate the requirements of the firm.

Knowledge Management study through the association, finds out the inapplicable faults and search out the appropriate solution that will be in favor of the union. Knowledge Management modifies data from one branch in order to personify the artifact in other branch this is a useful formula as it benefits the finances of the firm. The knack of the firm is established and Knowledge Management endorses a long tenure with right knowledge which ultimately benefits the organization. It also guards the financial accounts from being mishandled or derivative.

As in the case of Snapshot Jim has ruined the 25 years stetted firm, the employees were expanded from 200 to the count of 600 which means less work was divided between too many workers, products were less but the output was touching its height, there was no team spirit among the workers by which the firm was being corrupted and to this 60 of the employees, who were set up by Sam Snapshot, had retired and some of the new employees have also resigned; now Jim was in a horrible state at how to reset the Snapshot industries. Knowledge Management overviewed Jim’s condition as well as the industry. KM rooted up from the base of Snapshot industry, they were able to recognize about the mess created by Jim by having a talk with every employee. They explained to relish the industry once again with the attire of knowledge with KM. Leadership was the major challenge to overcome.

Q7. Could KM solve all the problems of Snapshot? Why or why not?

Kandadi (2006) conducted the research that considering through Knowledge Management details and usage, let us focus on the benefit which will offer by the Knowledge Management system. What are the advantages which are obtained from    effectual knowledge management corresponding on a group of people, a company and even the nation. Knowledge management is wide stretching through its developing tactics and became the most knowledgeable drive association. There is no conclusion about how much the program has widen itself to private sector, public sector and government sector, it claims to be most massive knowledge provided over innovative ideas, new thoughts etc , declares it as a supreme management contributor.

Initiated along the obliging environment the company introduce computer Knowledge Management. As there is a bicker with this new tactics at first but then it is easy to contact and manage, have the opinion that this new stuff is beneficial for basic development. But some partner engage into other sustainable portal of network it subside a mess in the Snapshot Industry and the old employee found it difficult to propagate along this innovative possessions .But with the instigation of Knowledge Management program it can resolve it issues and find proper conclusion on the references of their consideration. Knowledge Management can simplify the issues of Snapshot Industry intended to data execution along with proper details of employee work over stuffs and effective management schemes. Realizing the problems phased by Snapshot Industry, Knowledge Management tactics can arrange adaptions for its smooth functioning of Snapshot and ensure future innovative diplomacy for any errors corresponding.
