Communication Style for Julie
The professional responsibility can be applied to the nursing profession and it is indicative of ethical obligations which are imperative for the nurses. The standards can be said to be related to the patient care, morals, responsibility, Integrity And Collaboration taking place with the other kinds of medical professionals (Dall’Ora et al., 2020). The interests of patients have to be pre-eminent above the other concerns and compassion and the respect has to be espoused for ensuring self-determination of the patient. The nurses have to resolve conflicts of the interest in a manner which can help in ensuring safety of patient (Linton & Koonmen, 2020). The nurses have to fulfil duty for collaborating with entire treatment team which includes doctors, specialists and the nurses.
Charlie is the 24 year old married female having diagnosis of the Bipolar disorder (Type I). Charlie has got history of the physical abuse as the child and the previous violence in the family. She has been living within private accommodation with the husband and she has been working fully within banking sector. Charlie has been accepting medications however there has been relapse of the illness. It has made Charlie require inpatient admission and there has been increase in the psychosocial stressors and the intermittent compliance with the medications. There has been deterioration in the mental state of Charlie and she has been making sexualised comments to the physicians which has caused significant risk of her reputation. Charlie has proved to be increasingly irritable and she has been making aggressive verbal threats for assaulting staff and the various co-consumers. She has been directing personal abusive marks towards the Julie and she has been refusing all the medications and did not have medications over the course of 24 hour period. This report throws light on communication style that can be used by Julie which can be used in the confronting situation. This report discusses about self-care strategy that can be implemented by Julie for managing what she has been experiencing in the current times.
Charlie has been screaming at Julie and she was remarking that she has been restrained and she has been secluded. The confronting situation has been created for the nursing staff and she has been attempting for the continuation of verbal engagement. The communication style can be used by Julie that can help her for carrying out proper communication with Charlie. Peplau’s theory can act as a purpose therapeutic communication and communication in between nurse and patient can be said to be a crucial element of the theory (Cornine, 2020). The main objective of nursing care can be for achieving good communication in between nurse and the patient. The poor communication in between nurse and the patient can cause lot of problems in the field of nursing. Peplau has talked about significance of the therapeutic communication with the patients and how it can be effective in the reduction of anxiety. The Peplau’s theory of communication can be used in the nursing practice as and it can be of great assistance for Julie in dealing effectively with Charlie (Doyle et al., 2020). Julie has approached Charlie towards starting of the shift for having the discussion however there has been escalation in the behaviour. It has culminated in Julie discussing matter with Nurse in Charge and plan has to be made for the Charlie so that she can be taken to the seclusion for her safety. The nurse can help to respond to communication of the patient by the establishment of good therapeutic communication with patient. The nurse has to be self-aware which can be instrumental in understanding needs, desires and failings (Nicotera, 2021). It can help the nurses for understanding themselves in the better manner which can enable her to evolve as the unique individual. It can empower individuals for making changes and building on areas of the strength that can help in identifying areas for making improvements (Slatyer et al., 2018). The self-awareness can be said to be related to emotional intelligence and the success of the individuals. It can help in the creation of achievable goals and it can be instrumental in the consideration of strengths and the weakness of an individual (Shaw, Williams & Perkhounkova, 2018). There has to be therapeutic use of the self in the nursing field which can enable an individual to perform to their fullest potential. The aim of psyche has to be towards the individuation and an individual has to become aware about various aspects of the personality which can be effective in creating better balance internal and the external worlds. The self can be repressed during process of the socialisation and persona can be developed when the individual becomes absorbed within enacting roles. The emphasis of self-concept can be said to be mainly external and tendency of organismic self has to be towards the harmony and the integration of the discomfort.
Self-Care Strategy Used by Julie
Julie has been experiencing the negative self-talk and she has been concerned about the traumatisation of Charlie. The self-awareness can be used as a therapeutic tool for the nurses and it can enable an individual in knowing oneself in the better manner. The attribute can help in reflecting cognitive exploration of thoughts and feelings which can enable an individual in knowing oneself in the better manner. The self-awareness can be said to be crucial for the personal growth of an individual and it can enable an individual in the management of self and for improving the performance (Ferrell et al., 2019). The self-awareness can act as the core personality strength which can help in the management of business and career of the individuals. The importance of the self-care in the nursing field lies in the fact that it can be instrumental in the reduction of stress which can improve capacity of Julie for showing compassion on Charlie (Wei et al., 2020). The self-care can act as the stress management tool and it can help in the amelioration of stress in the nursing field. The empathy and the compassion can be said to be critical components in regard to the nursing care and it can be instrumental in the alleviation of depression or the anxiety. Julie should be able to care for herself and it can help in addressing reciprocal relationship in between professional and the personal growth (Mills, Wand & Fraser, 2018). It can help in complementing work of other individuals and it can be effective in the promotion of high quality care in the nursing field. The challenges that are faced in the nursing practice are stress, burn-out and the compassion fatigue and it can reduce quality of care provided to the patient. The self-fulfilment can act as a significant motivator for the nurses and it can be instrumental in creating positive expectations for the nurses (Bonamer & Aquino-Russell, 2019). The self-care strategy that can be practised by Julie is that there can be effective work-life balance owing to increased amount of the physical and the emotional stress. The nurses have to take time for making the investment in the self-care and Julie has to take adequate rest that can help her to provide proper protection to Charlie (Docherty-Skippen, Hansen & Engel, 2019). The nurses have to foster good working relationships which can be useful for them for the development of lasting associations. Julie has to maintain her professionalism and conflict has to be addressed in the respectful manner that can bear positive effect in the nursing profession. There has to be the consideration of realistic schedule which can enable the nurses for making the progress in the professional career (Matarese et al., 2018).
