I have experience in mechanical engineering and an interest in quality management.  I am unemployed and therefore cannot do an employer-based project.  The university has accepted my request to perform a literature review of the management of quality in mechanical engineering projects. Quality Management has been always a considerable factor for the successful and efficient delivery of the mechanical engineering projects. There are many theories presented by scholarly researchers in this context however, the researchers have not provide higher concentration on the quality management in the quality sectors. Very few papers available on the context of the quality management in the mechanical engineering projects and thus, various aspects of the quality and its management in the context of the mechanical engineering.

This Project will result in the following outcomes:

• Quality Management focuses on delivery of the project within expected time and accomplishing the high quality output
• It is helpful in limiting the costs of the resources and the overall project
• It results in the enhancement of the customer satisfaction and quality improvement
• Limiting and eliminating the injuries of the employees

The overarching project objectives are:

• To identify the current practices and results of the total quality management in mechanical engineering projects
• To enhance the productivity and output of the mechanical engineering projects by 15% through enhancing the quality of the project
• To analyse the literatures presented by different authors in the context of the quality management in mechanical projects
• The expected time for driving the project would be for a week

Organisational Context

The company has been delivering the railway locomotives in Australia and it is the aim of the company to provide and deliver the best wagon and locomotive productions. The quality management will be helpful in enhancing and implementing the objectives as mentioned above. There are mechanical services those need proper consideration in the context of the quality of the production and safety of the individuals. The company had been continuously evolving and thus, raising its competitors and the quality needs to be maintained considering the internal and external environment of the organization.

This project will be including safety of the employees, resources being utilized, quality of the resources, production rate, and output quality. The wagons and locos should be of very high quality for ensuring the safety and speed for the local community. Recent development in the quality management, construction quality, need of the change, and implementing new quality management strategies. Project Deliverables:

Education program, risk assessment & management pathway, improved awareness levels, schedule management, cost management, roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders, total quality management processes.

The Gaps will be identified through the literature review and thus, a survey can be driven for the identification of the customers’ perspective on the same context.

Human Resources including manager, supervisor, employees staffs, people, space to meet and access to a computer & internet, database management system, on site protective dresses.

There are the opportunities for this project for gaining the advantage of providing high quality materials, locos, and wagons to the society and enhancing the awareness of safety among the staffs working in the same environment.  This project will be helpful in driving opportunities for the project through linking the key performance indicator, safety of the staffs and employees working on-site, enhancing the awareness, securing the local community, and providing the high quality product and services.

Cost: the cost will be reduced by 10% through limiting the value of the resources, utilizing them in efficient and effective manner, and limiting the accidental ratios of the employees within the organization during the accomplishment of the mechanical works

Schedule: The research will be carried out for a week that will be focusing on the long term goal of the organization, which is two years

Quality: The skills and resource availability will be helpful in delivering the enhanced quality of the locos, wagons, and wheels, produced by James and Co.  

There are the possibilities that the project facing escalation in the budget and schedule and thus, consideration of the risk based on their priority is an important concern

Review Process:

Regular weekly meetings will be delivered as per the growth and development of the project; brainstorming process will be delivered followed by the suggestions and problems queries.
