The Importance of Youth Work

Discuss about the Authentic Curriculum in Work with Young People.

In the modern day scenario, the youth work is one of the most important parts of the society. It is the responsibility if the youth generation of people to come forward and take up their responsibility. This is because they are the ones who have to bring to limelight their innovative ideas and work for the overall welfare of the society. There are many faults and errors within the existing system of the society. Some it is the youth who has to come forward and work for the eradication of the same. It is for this reason that there are many institutes and training centers in the modern day scenario that are helping for teaching and developing the institutes of the youth workers(Banks 2014). There are many associations working in many different parts of the world to help and support the needs of the young people. There are also many young works association in Australia who constantly work for the overall welfare of the young people by supporting their needs (Alldred 2017).

There are many and varied kinds of workers who can act as a youth worker. The key role payers who can identify this talent are mainly the caches or the people from the youth training centers and the different universities. It can also happen that the parents of the young children become the identifier of the youth workers when they seek for any moral assistance for their children often the young adults and particularly the teenagers are quite frustrated in life and they are looking for some help or someone to support and guide them (Lardier et al. 2018). Often the parents or other adults of the family are not the right persons for helping them in this situation (Ord 2016). In such cases, there are many youth workers who can come and help during this kind of situations. There are people who can develop in some friendly conversations with these young teens and can give them a good counseling so that they do not try taking any harmful or serious steps like suicides (Feldman et al. 2018).

Youth workers are normal people of the society with some innovative and good ideas. They want to help the young people by keeping their interests in the first place. They define their works as a set of practice that helps in putting the goals and the interests of people in the first place. They do not really believe in dominating the young person but they believe in making the desired changes through active participation and help. They believe in working side by side with the young person who is in question. They believe in using their own knowledge to stay side by side with the young person in context and also empower them (Cooper et al.  2015).

Identifying Talent for Youth Work

They have many and varied interests. Their main purpose is to help the young person in question to develop a clear and proper insight (Furlong, 2016). They help in promoting equality and freedom among people. They want their work to be accepted because they realize the pain and the sufferings of so many young people within the society. They are very much aware of the stereotypes that are existing in the society and they want to challenge them and eradicate them from the root level. One good example can be the coaches of the sports for young children (Youth Action 2018). It is the duty of each and every coach to make sure that they are encouraging the young children to play and prosper in their respective games. Often it can so happen that the children are not able to live up to the expectation and they fail in the sports. It is at this point of time that the young players get demotivated and demoralized. They feel that they are falling back and they are often not supported by their families as well. It is at this point of time that might take some very serious steps. This point of time the role of the youth worker (who is the coach in this context) has to pat their backs and encourage a great deal. They have to encourage them with a smile on their face or any of their head or a little handshake. This will make the young children realize that there is someone who is supporting them and there is always time to work and come back even stronger (Wood et al. 2014). The youth workers want to imbibe this resilience factor among the young person (the young sports players in this context) for their better, sorted and independent future. Same is the case with the youth who can help during the time of bullying. The youth workers can set up many campaigns and many training centers that will help in explaining the entire concept of bullying and will also talk about the after-effects of the same. The youth workers can contribute to this campaign by talking about their experience of getting bullied during their young age. They can also conduct many bullying sessions where they can counsel the victims of bullying and can make them fight with this situation in a proper way. It is for all these reasons that the young people get a kind of empowerment and a sense of equality and justice. These are several reasons that makes the youth workers want their works to get accepted by the people and the society (Sanders et al. 2015). Some of the interest or the main motifs of these youth workers are-

Different Interests of a Youth Worker

Treating the young person as the primary client-the young person in need is free to get involved in this. There must be no compulsion or any kinds of harms on them.

Confidentiality- They maintains a strict security over the information that is shared by the clients or the young people. They will be informed in detail regarding any disclosure of the information about the young people in question.

Promotes equality- The youth workers want to promote equal rights and justice for all the people irrespective of their age, religion, social status, class and other such aspects.

They describe their intentions through their works. They take part in many social, interactive and one to one sessions where they will be able to talk with many of the young people who are actually in need of proper assistance.  The job that they perform is not a normal none to five kind of a job. They have different kinds of plans and works that are scheduled for them in them. They have to decide the kinds of organizations in particular like an after school, caregiver or child counselor, coach for young children sports or many other such professions (Studies 2018). They have to make sure that people are much aware about the kinds of services that are being rendered by these youth workers. They can use the social media is one of their most important means of communication and publication. It is through this that they are able to make sure that the society knows about the functions that they are performing. They can capture some of the videos or clippings of the works that are being performed by them. Many of the young people particularly the teens are very active on the social media. They do not find any other outlet to express their stress and their frustrations, so they often post about them on social media or maybe in the form of any blog or other such articles. They have to carry on an extensive survey and research regarding all the issues both past and present that may affect the well being of so many young people. They want their work and their services to get accepted within the society because they know that they can change the style of living of the young people by many ways. They can get in touch with so many young people through the social media where they can talk about their therapies and their sessions that will help them solve all their problems. They can use the briefings of their works and the snapshots of the works that are performed by them. They can use any headlines or any kinds of portals called the face the facts and can also flash about their works on the daily website news, the monthly newsletters and their mediums. Others are happy in getting the service from these people because getting proper support in such a tender young age is really very important (Davies 2015). The parents are often very worried when they see tendencies like suicidal activities, extreme quietness, tension, frustration etc. They are happy to get assistance from the youth workers. However often there are negative features as well that the youth workers face from the others. This is because many of the family members are often hesitant in taking help from the youth workers. Often the results that are achieved are also not up to the mark. The time management also often becomes a major concern. Often the youth workers are not able to have enough time to the young person. The person feels neglected and the results achieved are not up t the mark.

Approaches to Promote Equality and Empower Young People

There are also instances where the works performed by many people do not actually get heard or notified in the context of the youth works. Often there are people who are actually taking part in youth works like charity events at local places, helping the poor and the needy like raising funds for funding the young people suffering from drugs or other kinds of addictions. There are teachers who can act as counselors and give the students a good counseling regarding the different kinds of problems that they face. There can be a normal resident of the locality who is a college student or a part-time worker in his free time he may be able to go in a one to one session with the young people of residents who are in problem. His often happens because they do not have any degrees from any well-known universities that teach youth work. However, people must look into the ways and the motives with which they are trying to help the young generation of people.

The main purpose of the youth workers is to make sure that they are involving the young people in all the collaborative and group activities. This will help them develop a free and collaborative approach with one another (Rambaree et al. 2017).

This allows the young people to decide with full liberty and freedom regarding whether to get involved in this programme or not. There will be no compulsion being made. The settings of conducting this programme will also be in a very welcoming place. One of its most prominent practices is that it is anti-oppressive in nature. In other words, it mainly aims at promoting the overall welfare of all the young people. They are respectful towards each and every young people belonging to a different class, religion, and caste. They make sure that they are not showing any kinds if disrespect towards any of the young people. This creates a very big negative impact on the minds of the young people. The other important concept and practice of youth work is the fact that they know how to maintain the privacy if the information that is shared with them (Theron et al. 2015). They never tamper with that information or even keep any unnecessary information like any kinds of recordings about it.

The other important practice that is core to their activities is developing accountability among the society. They try to involve all the other members of the community to encourage and involve people in taking up more and more youth works. They must constantly take feedback from the young people whom they are trying to support through their works. Finding out proper information and establishing many kinds of practice that will help in developing the well being and the development of the young people.

Using Social Media to Promote Youth Work

So, it can be concluded that the youth workers are really doing a great job and are highly essential for helping the young people to deal with all the pressures of their life. The youth workers make sure to maintain all the relevant ethics that are responsible for providing total security to the personal information of the young people. They help in promoting equality and justice for all the young people of society who are fighting with many kinds of problems like stress and frustrations of all sorts.
