Benefits of Acknowledging Strengths and Weaknesses

Performing self awareness exercises is important because an individual stands a chance of understanding himself or herself better. We also have the chance of experiencing ourselves uniquely as separate beings. We then develop the urge to change our ways or build on the strengths we posses to make us better humans. The process of performing self-awareness is the initial step towards setting personal goals. When we develop the concept of self awareness, we become conscious of the things we can do best while acknowledging the areas that we yet need to improve. Such includes accepting our shortcomings when we fail to provide answers to mistakes that we perform or required to rectify (Alison, 2013).

In our culture that is currently, highly competitive, such a case can at times be counterintuitive. There are those who believe that we have to carry ourselves as though we have answers to everything in whatever situation. Otherwise, people will start questioning the skills we possess and being posing judgments.  However, it is my belief that an individual that is honest with himself or herself will admit his or her shortcomings. The truth is that whether acknowledges his or her shortcomings or don’t, people will see them still. In an attempt to seal such shortcomings, people will always highlight them instead. Such will create a perception that one lacks self-awareness and integrity (Palmer, 2017).

In my career as a Computer professional, there is a lot required of me. The profession is very particular when it comes to paying attention to accuracy when dealing with most matters. When I lose concentration even for a minute, a written program or a designed page is likely to have bug thereby ruining everything. Such is the reason why paying attention to the tinniest of details is important. Attention is not only required while at work, but also in my everyday life. Nowadays (in the field of technology), those who pay attention to details are considered most valuable.

Apart from being keen, the profession has taught me to be extra dedicated. I have learnt that technology is the most complex field in life. It is complex because there are a lot of things that I learn while at work or even at home. Therefore, being extra dedicated is the only way that I can grow my knowledge base. Dedication also enables me to keep up with the latest technological trends. The truth is that no one has the ability to know everything (Palmer, 2017).

The Importance of Being Honest with Oneself

Though my profession is computer-based, I still have a chance to mingle with other people. Those who are not professionals in this field tend to get confused when I use industry register most of the time. This register is important because it helps me to switch between casual and work speech quick enough (Management, 2017).

Most definitely, no computer specialists can be successful when he or she sits in one place doing the same thing over and over again. A professional in the field of computing should be one who can perform several tasks simultaneously. A professional is therefore, required to be able to manage time properly and also have the ability to solve problems. In this case, problem-solving skills involve being able to troubleshoot several issues daily. In this field, finding problems and solving them is the basis of all operations (Management, 2017).

In relation to my professional requirements, I possess the following employable skills and personal attributes:

• An expert in Microsoft Office Package, Microsoft Windows, Data Cabling and Communication, Web Browsers, and Technical Problem Solving
• An expert in using Data projectors, Audio visual equipment, and Media production
• An expert in providing technical support
• Competent in Computer Networking
• Competent in Backing up data
• Having basic knowledge in Linux and Mac OS

Other hobbies and interests include:

• Building and repairing computers
• Performing outdoor activities such as abselling and rock climbing   

Because I am required to perform several tasks at a go, I have learnt to be versatile. Performance of other outdoor activities has also helped me develop outside my profession. A good professional is one who has knowledge in other things such as having financial and business skills I have attained such skills through chairing project teams and workshops.

I have also learnt to multitask. Since I cannot sit in one place doing one thing at a go, I have developed the art of performing several tasks simultaneously. With my time management and prioritization skills, multitasking effectively is easy (Management, 2017).

• Inadequate skills of technical writing

Many big companies require workers to be in a position to submit reports on a daily basis. Professionally, such reports should be written in a language that is technical. This is the sort of language that will be used to explain concepts of the performed work as well as compare a professional work to one that is not. I therefore, will develop my technical writing skills by joining a technical writing class in the coming month (Laihonen, Lönnqvist & Metsälä, 2015).

• Developing communication skills

One of the biggest challenges in my life is speaking in public. For that reason, I am entitled to further develop my public speaking skills. To achieve this I will join the Toastmasters club at the beginning of next month and be a regular member (Institute, 2017).

• Being more competent in Excel

Most specifically, Accounting requires competence in Excel. I am, therefore, required to further develop my skills in the same area. To achieve this, I will

1. Enroll or a  TAFE course in the beginning of next year
2. Get a manual and set aside an hour every week to work through Excel exercises and improve my competence in the same program.

• Networking skills

The Need for Multitasking and Time Management in Computer Technology

Since I do not know many individuals in the company that I work in, I will identify competent Computer Networking companies such as DotLink and Vodaphone and become a member of their networking programs or rather attend their meetings on a regular basis (HRM, 2017).
