Discuss about the Security Management in Korean Peninsula.
In the eyes of Frank (2013), the term “security” refers to the measures that are undertaken in order to protect something or someone. National security or securing a country or a region is regarded as the prime duty of the government of that particular region or country. After the end of cold war, there have been multiple ethical issues and security dilemmas, which have occurred due to the geo-political factors and due to greater influence over the nation. The external powers focus on understanding their own interests and preferences rather than using military power and being diplomatic. It has been exercised for responding to the nuclear breakout at DPRK and to maintain a stable environment for people to live properly in the future at the Peninsula.
There are macroeconomic issues as well such as the lower rate of inflation and higher rate of unemployment, which resulted in huge decline of foreign direct investments during the last few years. The bilateral trade issues, lack of labour flexibility and transparency further contributed to the violence in labour disputes and lower productivity for many companies in Korea. The solutions are formulated to manage the trade issues along with enabling better coordination among the Government agencies and businesses to deal with the political forces. This will manage the bilateral trade relations properly as well as stabilise the relationship between Korea and United States.
Why is it an issue?
It is a major issue because North Korea and South Korea have started a war between themselves, which has caused huge destruction and even harmed the lives of many people. It not only created a negative impact on the management of trade relations between the two nations, but also has created discrepancies and political conflicts at Korean Peninsula. The delegation led by the individual from North Korea can bring issues because of the improper security management between the two Koreas.
Why is it an issue now?
It is considered as a major issue now, because with the emergence of political conflicts, the trade relations have been hindered and the security has deteriorated. There have been issues related to foreign direct investments, lower inflation rate and higher unemployment, which creates lower productivity for the businesses and affected the economic growth negatively.
How can the research shed light on the issue?
The research sheds light on the issues related to management of security at Korean Peninsula. The research has focused on the security management, which has declined and created economic issues along with problems arising during the management of international trade. By shedding light on these issues, it will be convenient and effective to overcome these through various recommended approaches and strategies, furthermore maintain proper security and stabilise the economic condition of Korean Peninsula.
Aims and Objectives of Research
The main aim of the research is to assess the challenges and manage the security of the Korean Peninsula.
The main objectives of the research are
- To understand the challenges that are associated with the security of the Korean Peninsula
- To study about the strategies implemented for maintaining security at the sports event in Korean Peninsula
- To analyse the issues that have arisen due to the insecurity at the Korean Peninsula
- To present relevant ideas for ensuring that the Korean Peninsula is kept secure and the economic conditions are improved
- To create recommendations for ensuring that the sports diplomacy leads to an unprecedented shift for both the Koreas
The research is of significance, because, being a student of the international studies, I will be able to understand the current situation of Korean Peninsula and understand the issues that have arisen. This will help me to analyse different situations for overcoming the problems of international trade, lack of flexibility, transparency, openness, higher inflation rate and rate of unemployment. The research significance will allow me to develop certain approaches to overcome the issues. It can also help me to enhance my skills related to various international trade terms; furthermore understand the effectiveness of trade relations and how it can affect the economy of the nation with ease and efficacy. It will also allow for learning about the various aspects of sports diplomacy and how it can create a positive impact on the Koreas and improve the economic condition.
Till the year 1945, the countries of Korea was under the governance of the Japanese empire after the treaty between Japan and Korea which was signed between the countries in the year 1876 (Clifford 2016). After the events that took place during the World War II, the rule of the Japanese empire over Korea came to an end. The United Nations and the USSR pondered over the decision regarding the issue of Korea and ultimately decided to divide the country into two. They split the country through the peninsula area, thus forming North and South Korea. The USSR and the United States ruled the North and the South Korea respectively (Manyin 2014).
The leader of North Korea discussed with the high ranking officials of South Korea regarding “national reunification” of both the countries (Lee 2013). It was probably the first time that the leader of North Korea had a face to face interaction with the leaders of South Korea. The central and the state run news agency reported that the encounter of the government of the countries was an “openhearted talk” on the improvement of the relationship between the two countries and ensuring the existence of peace and stability over the Korean Peninsula.
Earlier, the present President of the United States had promised great things for the country of North Korea if the leader of the country would stop the nuclear programs launched by the later. Presently the president of the United States stated that they would be giving North Korea the compensation only if the later promises to stop their nuclear program earlier (Caron 2016).
Significance of the Study
Research philosophy is the belief that is considered in order to develop and analyse a study in details. It mainly deals with the source, nature and development of knowledge. It is the way the data about any phenomenon is collected, analysed and used in the course of a study or research. It is mainly classified into ontology, epistemology and axiology (Neuman , 2013). The philosophy of ontology is based on e nature of the reality. It is classified on two main aspects- objectivism and subjectivism. The approach of the natural scientists observed through positivism as the work or the performance of the natural scientist is based on the observance of social individual (Mackey & Gass, 2015).
It is a systematic approach that is used by a researcher in order to conduct a study in a more scientific way. There are four prominent types which can be used in order to design or plan a research. These are exploratory research, descriptive or analytical research and explanatory research (Marhall and Rossman 2014). The descriptive research is helpful in describing the characteristics of the population and the phenomenon that is being studied. It does not answer the question like when, why or how the characteristics have occurred. The explanatory research is conducted when a problem has not been addressed and researched earlier, the problem demands priorities generates operational definitions and provides for a better model for the purpose of research (Taylor, Bogdan & DeVault, 2015). It actually focuses on the explaining the aspects of a study in a more detailed manner.
Sampling is the process used in statistical analysis in which a small number of representatives are taken from the target group or the population so as to fulfil the purpose of conducting a research. Sampling techniques are mainly of two type- probability sampling and non-probability sampling. A probability sampling method is a technique in which the subjects or the sample have an equal opportunity of being selected as a representative of the study. A non-probability sampling is a technique of sampling in which the sample might not have a chance of being selected for the purpose of study (Silverman, 2016).
While conducting the research, both probability and non-probability sampling techniques would be used. Apart from this, simple random sampling technique will be used so s to obtain a clear picture of the study. It is expected that around 50 experts from the countries of North and South Korea and United States would be asked to participate for the survey and their reactions towards the decision of security of the Korean Peninsula will be analysed (BNS & HV, 2013).
Review Of Literature
The study will depend on the collection of both primary and secondary data. Primary data will be collected by means of various sources lie survey and interview. The secondary sources of data collection will include all the types of data that are available in printed form as well as on the online platform (Neuman, 2013).
The qualitative methods of data collection include interviewing the managers of the businesses and sports authorities at Pyeongchang to understand their views and opinions regarding the impact that the sports diplomacy can create at Korea. It will not only strengthen the relationship between North and South Koreas, but will also improve the economic condition and allow for successful management of international trade relations. The thematic approach is undertaken in order to analyse the qualitative data. The information gathered by means of interview will be written taking into consideration various themes that are directly associated with the study (Mackey & Gass, 2015).
Strict ethical guidelines will be followed during the entire research process. During the collection of the primary data, none of the participants would be forced to participate in the survey. A consent formed will be duly signed so as to ensure the respondents are participating willingly in the survey. There will not be any kind of logo or symbol of the educational organization in the papers used for the conduction of the survey so as not to portray any kind of advertisement. For the secondary source of research, referencing is of prime importance so as to avoid any kind of plagiarism. Hence, there shall not be any kind of approach that would violate the norms and regulations of the ethical guidelines (Taylor et al,. 2015).
There are a number of limitations in a research study, in spite of the matter that they are well planned (Silverman, 2016). Firstly, the time frame or the time provided is always a limitation in every research. In addition to this, the availability of the resources also remains a big issue that needs to be considered. The responses that are received from the respondents might not be b enough for gaining the desired outcome (Palinkas et al. 2015). There are other problems such as gaining permission for the purpose of interview from the experts and other higher officers. However the research needs to be planned in the most appropriate way that would help the research in the right way (BNS & HV, 2013).

Conclusion
The proposal has been prepared in order to assess the security of the Korean Peninsula. As both the countries, North and South Korea wanted to rule the peninsular region a civil war between the two countries broke out. The main aim of the research is to assess the challenges that are needed to face in order to bring peace and establish security in the peninsular region of the countries. In order to complete the study and reach at the conclusion, exploratory and explanatory research will be undertaken. Sample for conducting the study will be collected by both probability and non-probability sampling. Data for the research will be collected using the survey research and analyzed by converting the data into numbers and percentages. This study like all others has some limitations. The main limitations of the study are the time given for the research and making use of the available data.
