Job Review and Application
For the purposes of assessment only, students are required to search on-line and apply for a position related to their career interests. This position should be the type of position students would wish to apply for upon graduation. The position should be a realistic graduate position and can be located anywhere in the world. Students should also indicate in the introduction the name of the position, company and location where they are applying. Students will be required to indicate their interest in this position and undertake “mock” job-application, including a cover letter and resume, as they would if they were actually applying for the position.
This assignment aims to assist students with the graduation recruitment process. The assignment requires students to identify a position that is currently available, and that they would consider applying for upon graduation. Students should indicate where the position was found and attach the employment advertisement as an appendix to the assignment. Specifically, students are required to:
- Identify a current position (job) that they would like to apply for upon graduation (this should be a realistic graduate position)
- Within the introduction, provide a brief overview of the position, the organisation, and where the position was found.
- Outline your motivation and interest in applying for this position and why you would seek employment with this organisation
- Provide a simulated application for the position, including a cover letter, (which addresses the selection criteria) and a resume/CV, tailored to the specific position. Please follow the format suggested in class.
Motivational Interests
The sole responsibility of an event manager is to coordinate, organize and manage all aspects of an event (Getz & Page, 2016). An event manager is expected to ensure execution of high-quality events right from the moment of conception until completion. At all times, an event manager should ensure that the expectations of the client are not compromised. The briefs and expectations of the client ought to be met and if possible exceeded. In a nutshell, coordinating and organizing entails involvement in pre-planning, logistics, and operations of events like weddings, seminars, trade shows, launches of products and services, fundraisers, gala dinners, meetings among other major events (Fiske & Fiske, 2009). An event manager turns out to be the focal point for support, direction, and communication between the client and the relevant stakeholders.
The organization in which I intend to be an Event Manager is Australia’s CEO Challenge (ACC). Australia’s CEO Challenge works with businesses of all sectors to become responsive to DFV to directly support and impact on staff (www.seek.com, 2018). The firm is a non-for profit organization. It does not receive any funding. As a result of the rapid growth of function and event management, the organization is looking for an event manager. The event manager will be responsible for delivering major and corporate fundraiser programs. I came across the position on the internet as I was perusing of firms for which I can work as an event manager. Besides I had volunteered to for the same organization a while back.
I selected this particular position to apply for a number of reasons. Most importantly this position suits my personality. I am organized, punctual, outgoing, I love details and a great gathering. I feel this is the perfect career for me. Event Managers spend most of the time making plans for memorable events for their clients and ensuring that these special functions run perfectly for the day (Van der Wagen & White, 2018). Secondly, it is an incredibly exciting and busy career. I like being busy and fast-paced with most of the things I lay my hands on. Thus I feel this is the right path for me. Another source of motivation is the variety that comes with being an event manager (Florida, 2014). Today one may be planning fundraiser for street kids and the next day coming up with ideas for a Christmas party for the same kids or even those affected by family domestic violence. The thought of variety is itself exciting.
Cover Letter
The position of event management also leaves one spoilt of choices. You can work from the house, office, and agency or even free-lance (Gandini, 2016). Each path that I choose will offer exciting possibilities. The most important aspect is to get things done as per the clients’ expectations. The most interesting part of the career is that it will keep me on my toes. A career in event management will always keep one mentally stimulated. One will grow their social circles as they need great skills to interact with clients, guests, and even suppliers (Katzenbach & Smith, 2015). Additionally one will need the knack for high organization, detail, and punctuality. The position will also motivate me to be good at problem –solving skills. This is especially for the moments when a client or supplier changes their mind, or even a performer does not show up. One has to really think quickly to fix the problem.
My interests for seeking employment at ACEOC are that it is a reputable firm. Besides, I had worked with the firm before thus am familiar with the policies and everything else. The position will challenge me to give nothing short of my best. Secondly, I feel the experience that I will gain from ACEOC will prepare me for my future career. Rather it will be a stepping stone for having a personal event planning organization. Finally, the position will enable me to to interact with a whole lot of individuals with different personalities. Such individuals can form a part of my clients when I set up my personal company in the future. Australia’s CEO Challenge is just an awesome place for my career and I look forward to working with them.
