What type of leader am I and what are the key areas that I need to improve to become more effective?
Introduction: Being a leader and to conduct leadership is identified as one of the most essential roles in today’s working culture
The leaders are either born or they become the leader by the outstanding efforts and holding job responsibilities. The major scope of writing this reflective essay is to perform self-analysis in contrast to the leadership process (Moon, 2014). This self-analysis will be helpful in identifying the personal strengths and weakness for leadership. The different opportunities for the improvement are also being identified in a well-managed manner. Through this reflective essay, major pros and cons related to the self-leadership skills are being calculated. The reflective essay mainly covers major effects on the brief discussion related to the skills of leadership, different live example, the major areas related to development and at the end, it ends with the cumulative conclusion and recommendations.
Brief Discussion: In daily life and corporate profile, human being plays different roles. One person from every field earns responsibility for managing the flow of work in the correct direction. In professional terms, that particular people is identified as the leader (Dow Jones & Company, Inc., 2016)
The leaders are mainly equipped with the extraordinary qualities related to the commanding and ordering skills. The wide range of theories are defined for managing the leadership which are named as the great main theory, behavioral theory, contingency theory, transactional theory, transformation theory. For my working approach, the most suitable theories identified are the transformational and transactional theories. Both these theories help in providing assistance for an improvement and managing the specific set of leadership in the current direction. According to the transactional theory of leadership, the leaders are mainly linked to the followers. The exchange aspects are defined on a large scale. In this type of leadership, leaders can exchange their views and identify basic requirements related to the followers. Apart from this, the transformational theory helps in providing assistance related to the changes in the existing procedures. The major aspects are the changes as per the requirement of procedures followed by the leadership. To manage leadership, appropriate coordination between the leaders and followers is essential to manage. The piece of reflective writing shown is helpful in providing specific justification related to the values of leadership (Jing-zhou, et al., 2008).
Examples related to Leadership: To pursue the traits and experiences related to the leadership, discussion is mainly focused on different situations. I personally believe that, to pursue the leadership different elements are comprised to form a set of argument. I also trust that there are some specific indicators which are helpful in providing the assistance for leadership procedures.
Examples related to Leadership
As a leader, I personally believe that various enthusiastic tools and energizing process are required to assist the followers. The specific vision related to the leadership is trying to analyze on a specific level. My skill-set and working procedure is helpful for the people to provide them specific assistance in a correct direction. I always appreciate team members to follow a definite approach to perform the task. There are various examples to find out from my class room activities through which I may able to reflect my personal qualities in reference to any specific type of procedures. My leadership quality was first judged when I was in higher secondary. One of my friends has provided me the opportunity to handle common functions held in the school. I have joined student youth club on the post of the Vice-President. My leadership skills and coordinated approach was appreciated by everyone in the college. Everyone has praised me a lot and feedbacks were also positive for me. Now, I am on the post of class mentor and my qualities are still reflecting on a wider level (Jones, 2008). My charismatic leadership style and administrative skills while pursuing any leadership skills, provide me help for an improvement (Hosmer, 1982).
As a mentor to the students, I also believe in content sharing and preparation of daily subject notes. The circulation of the duties and allotment of tasks to individual students also reflects my specific skills related to the leadership. The management of resources and providing assistance to the students for an improvement are identified as some of the major qualities which helps in strengthening my personal qualities. I personally believe that my skills and enthusiastic approach for the improvement helps in framing accurate structure for the development of the organization. The games like icebreakers puzzle and refreshing minute games have been included in some of my leadership qualities through which I can boost up the morale of the candidates. Apart from this, I can be able to focus on my different qualities as well (Mind Tools Team, 2015).
The second thoughts in which I personally believe is that leadership is not the process through which one can be able to achieve any position, nor are any promotional aspects related to it. To manage the personal aspects, it becomes essential to follow the rules and regulations related to the specific organization. When I am working for the growth of kids, I personally focus on their requirements and achievement rather than focusing on self-growth and targets. This personal consideration will be helpful in providing the assistance for growth and developmental perspectives (Hoyes, 2014). The leadership qualities will be simultaneously enhanced with the help of different live examples and procedures.
Analysis of Self-strength and Weakness
Another experience which I can share on my personal level is related to the identification of suitable performance and reward system. The performance and reward system can be developed on a wider angle to provide suitable feedback (Yan, 2016). I provide help to my teammates and colleagues to manage specific set of reward systems through which complete processing related to the organization can be pursued. In fact, the employees can also be able to earn the self- profit by considering different methods related to the leadership. This personal experience will be helpful in providing suitable guidance and assistance as well (Reid, 2015).
By identifying all these aspects on a personal level, some strength and weakness are also being analyzed. Through strength, the motivational level will be increased in a wider manner and by considering the weakness and thus, the chances for improvement will also be increased.
Analysis of self-strength and Weakness: While pursuing the target related to the personal skills, there is some specific strength which is identified as emotional correlation, appreciation in nature and quality of leading. My first strength is my leadership paradigm, which carries out in the flow of work. While providing the guidance to my students, I always focus on the specific set of activities on a larger scale. Apart from this, my next strength is the appreciation in nature. From my childhood days, I always appreciate my colleagues and co-workers. I always try to provide them sufficient information and motivational aspects for the improvement. My nature will also make me a strong leader itself. For providing sufficient information on an organizational level, the coordination and approaches is also being identified on an initial level. This appreciation in nature is also helpful in providing the motivational aspects related to self-development. My leading quality and leadership skills are also identified as key strengths which are also helpful in creating a positive impact on the leaders. My leadership skills also show a charismatic personality and improved behavior, through which I can be able to manage my followers in the accurate direction. The strong holds on the situations and specific dealing with the situations are identified as one of the feature, which is recognized on an individual level. For managing all these aspects, the leadership strength is proving as the worth.
But apart from proving strength there are some specific set of weakness too, due to which I felt issues on my personal level. As a leader I personally felt that the common issues are observed which are related to the lack of confidence and organizational skills (Miller, 2012). These aspects are essential to improve description explained above is cleared and transparent. The actual scenario towards self- analysis is identified properly. There are various aspects which are flawlessly defined in favor of the leadership traits. In fact, I personally feel that my inner qualities and strengths are combined to form the specific attitude required for the development. There are various areas related to the development which are essentially required. These areas of development will be helpful in highlighting the major factors through which the personal changes in the behavior of leaders can be observed in a remarkable manner (Team, 2008).
The developmental areas for improving my leadership skills are recognized as a increment in the level of confidence and development in the focuses approach for the articulation of work. For developing the level of confidence, clear vision and passionate approach is essential in a correct direction. By applying this approach, I may be able to develop definite set of skills for management. By applying these ideas, the leadership characteristics can be improved easily. Apart from this, other recommendations for gaining self-confidence are proper management of positive attitude, generation of the motivation and increment in the communication skills (Datta, 2015).
The second area for the improvement is identified as the increment in the focused approach. To manage focus and to retain 360-degree feedback system, it is essential to develop some of the definite aspects related to the improvement (MacCarthy, 2016). The self-education system and continuous process of learning will be helpful in developing the focused system related to the organization. By this, the output can also become more result oriented.
In the appendix section showing below, major questionnaire is prepared which helps in explaining some of the questions related to the self-assessment.
Conclusion and Recommendation: The self-assessment is considered as the opportunity through which it could become possible to analyze strength and weakness on our own level. This assessment will be proved helpful in providing facility for the improvement in the coming future. There are some set of recommendations provided to me on wider level through which can be observed. It is recommended that to be a good leader, the key and essential aspect is to work in coordination with the coworkers. So, a definite approach is required to be followed for the definite procedure, for formation of the target and setting of the goals under the key areas for the improvement. By keeping all these perspective in mind, leaders can able to develop their self-identify their skill-set and can get successful.
