In this assignment, you are going to perform an analysis of a membership and facility management system of a gymnasium.

You are to perform an analysis and design of a “membership and facility management” system. You are required:

  1. Discuss the six core processes of the SDLC required to develop the membership and facility management system
  2. A Class Diagram for the entire membership and facility management system, showing:

  • Multiplicities

  • A use case diagram which models the actors and the use cases of the Manager schedules staff roster
  1. A use case diagram which models the actors and the use cases of the Member registers for class (just before the commencement of a class)

  2. Develop PERT/CPM chart explaining the early and late start for each task. Identify the critical path and the total time to finish the project

Specification: Body Sculptors Gymnasium

Body Sculptors is a gymnasium that uses a computer-based information system to track and monitor membership and member activity in the gymnasium facilities.

  1. Staff Management

Body Sculptors employs managers, administration staff and trainers. All staff have a staff ID, personal contact details and bank account number to enable direct debit of wages. Staff may be salaried or casual, with casual staff paid on an hourly rate. Both salaried and casual staff may be paid overtime rates.

The trainers work on the gym floor and have one or more areas of expertise called a specialty. A trainer’s specialty determines where in the gym they can work. For example, only trainers with a speciality in aerobics may conduct any of the aerobic or aquarobic sessions. Specialities are aerobics, strength and circuit. A trainer’s speciality is based on formal qualifications completed (or updated) within the last 5 years. Qualifications have an institution name, course name, course length and starting year. All trainers must have a current first aid certificate.

  1. Rostering

The gym is open from 5.00am until 11.00 pm with a manager and trainers rostered on throughout that time. Administrative staff work from 8.00 am until 4.00 pm. The roster is organised so that at any time of the day or night, there is at least one trainer with each specialisation available in the gym. In some of the busier times several staff are scheduled to cover demand. A typical daily roster may look like:

  1. Facilities and Equipment

Body Sculptors provides a range of resources such as strength and flexibility apparatus; facilities that include a swimming pool and a sauna; and a number of different classes. All resources are linked into the system.

  1. Member services

Customers are called members and have their details registered to ensure that important health and insurance requirements are met. Members each have a name, address, date of birth, phone number, occupation, and an access type, that may be full or restricted. Full members have access to all facilities and equipment in the centre.

At the commencement of the class, members swipe their card in the reader. If they have a booking, this is verified, and they are accepted for the class. If they do not have a booking, they are verified for access, and admitted if there are places available. On the way out the card is swiped again, at which time the class details are added to their session, with any pro rata adjustment in time or calories for and early exit. If they forget to swipe their card on exit, it is assumed that they have completed the class.

When using the swimming pool other than for a class, the time is registered, and the member is asked for the laps and pace when exiting to allow calculation of calorie expenditure. In the sauna, only the time is used.

When the member indicates that he or she has finished a session, they are provided with a printed report of the session, detailing the targets, time and calories expended on each resource, and the total calories and time for the session.

The processes that are included in developing a software service is goes through some steps that are to be followed. All these steps are to be followed by a system developer while developing a software. SDLC method is the Software Development Life Cycle that includes six main steps in developing a software (Abrahamsson et al. 2017). Those six steps can be used in project planning of Body sculptures. Those includes planning phase, analysis phase, design phase, development phase and the implementation phase, testing phase, and the last step is deployment phase and maintaining phase. The six main processes of SDLC method are described elaborately below:

  1. Planning Phase: Without planning no project can be successful. For completing a project successfully, plan is to be done first before starting a project. All the strength and the weaknesses are to be noted down prior starting a project. With proper planning a project can be successfully kicked off and has positive effect on the progress of the project.
  2. Analysis: This particular mainly includes analysing performance of software at different stages as well as making the notes on all the additional requirements that are required for completing a project (Shortell 2015). Before proceeding the next step, analysis must be done.
  3. 3. Design: the third step is to design the software that is to be built. This this design phase, the developer needs to design the software that is to be developed. Design of the software should be according to the requirement that are gathered for developing the system.
  4. Development and Implementation: the main task of a developer is to design the software and then develop it accordingly. The data that are gathered for developing a software are to be developed in this step. After the development, there is a process of implementation that states that the software application that is being built is to be implemented for its testing. Implementation phase is prior to the testing phase.
  5. Testing: The second last step is to test the software. The software that is design, developed and implemented is finally to be tested whether all the requirements are met and it is user efficient software. Any bugs in the software is tested in this step
  6. Maintenance: The last step is the maintenance step. Most of the developers follows all the steps except this step. Most of the time they forget about maintenance of the software they had developed. The software needs maintenance and needs to be upgraded from time to time when technologies are updating. The software are to be adapt all the changes that comes in the market.

The below is the CPM Chart for the project that is undertaken. The project that is undertaken is to analyse the training routine of the Body Sculptures. As all the task in the project depends on the previous task, the whole path of the project is critical task.

The below diagram shows the early start, early finish, late start and late finish each of the task. The slack time of each of the task is also show in the diagram below.
