Importance of Effective Leadership

Leadership can be considered to be a major research based area or a practical skill which mainly encompasses an ability of the individuals or organizations which is helpful in leading or guiding the individuals in an effective manner. The leaders in an organization are thereby able to guide the individuals in such a manner so that they are able to perform their tasks in an effective manner. Leaders have the major responsibility of selecting a particular direction for individuals or employees within the organizations. The management based skills are thereby used by the leaders in an effective manner in order to create a vision for the employees. The individuals are thereby able to follow the vision effectively in order to achieve the goals which are set by them (Al-Asfour and Lettau 2014). Effective leadership is thereby considered to be a process which is helpful in providing direction to the employees so that they are able to achieve the common objectives. Leadership process is thereby based on the ways of influencing people so that they are able to get the things done in an effective manner.

The changes which have taken place in the current business based environment have played a major role in the ways by which the managerial tasks are being changed to leadership based tasks. The entrepreneurial leadership has thereby been able to play a major role in bringing successful changes in the organizational environment and process of development as well. The responsibilities which were thereby fulfilled by the leaders have gone through huge number of changes recently. The business based opportunities have been able to provide huge pressure on the organization for the proper implementation of leadership. The process of effective leadership can thereby be considered to be a major source of competitive advantage for the organizations in modern business environment (Ali et al. 2015). The success of the leader is thereby based on the success levels of the followers or members of the organization as a whole. The report will be based on analysis of leadership style of an engineering leader named Herbert Hoover.

Herbert Clark Hoover is the leaders who has been considered for analysis in the report. Hoover was an engineer of American origin. Hoover also served as the 31st President of the United states from the year 1929 to 1933. Hoover was also known for introducing efficiency related themes in business community of the country. The support which was thereby provided by the government for different business based activities is an important part of the activities which were performed by him in the organization. The domestic programs that were thereby introduced by him were overshadowed due to the onset of the Great Depression. Hoover had been able to become a successful mining based engineer and also had a global perspective. The international reputation which was developed by him was based on his humanitarian nature. Hoover had become the “food czar” and the head of U.S. Food Administration based activities (Alkahtani 2015). The American Relief Administration was thereby led in an effective manner by Hoover after the completion of war. Hoover had acquired the position for becoming a candidate in the President election in the year 1920.

Changes in Managerial Tasks

The effective performance of Hoover was developed at the time of the Great Depression which has occurred in the United States in the year 1929. The leadership based qualities of Hoover had been able to play a major role in the resolution of different issues which have taken place in the country. The 1920s were thereby considered to be a period based on prosperity and optimism. Hoover was elected as the President of the country in the year 1929. The stock market had depicted huge growth during this period. The investors of the country had been able to take advantage of the situation which had been developed in the United States. However, in the year 1929 the market of the United States had shown huge drop. This was a time when President Hoover had been able to depict his leadership and management based qualities in an effective manner. The President had played a major role in the ways by which the panic levels can be prevented in the economy (Alonso?Almeida, Perramon and Bagur?Femenias 2017).

The leaders of different business organizations were thereby summoned by the President and they were further made to promise that the wages of employees will be maintained effectively. The economic theory which was suggested by Hoover had stated that the financial losses which are faced by organizations need to affect the profits of the company and not the wages and employment based activities. The commitments were received by the President based on the continuation of new constructions as well as repairs which were started in the year 1930. The federal departments were ordered by the President so that they are able to speed up the construction based process and the governors were expected to expand public works based projects in various states. In the year 1930, the intervention which was made by the President based on the financial issues faced in the nation was praised by the “New York Times” (Banks et al. 2016).

The business organizations and government had together spent a lot of time in the year 1930 in the previous year. The lack of purchase by the consumers had thereby played a major role in the operations of the organizations and their levels of profitability in a huge manner. The levels of unemployment in the country had increased in the year 1930 and this further led to the development of the President’s Emergency Committee for Employment in order to coordinate in an effective manner. The success levels of the Committee were however quite low in solving the issues which were being faced by the country. The Depression levels had started increasing in a huge manner in the private sector of employment. The levels of credit were transferred from Congress to the different agricultural surpluses. The President further requested the Congress so that they are able to spend more amounts of money on the public works based activities and generation of new jobs as well (Breunig 2014).

The economic conditions of the country had started improving in the year 1931 and a huge number of bank collapses in Europe had started sending shockwaves within the American economy. The Committee which was earlier developed by Hoover was again reorganised in the same year. The Committee was further renamed as President’s Organization on Unemployment Relief or POUR. The fund based drive was related to the ways by which millions of dollars can be raised in order to develop the position of the country in an effective manner. The President was however criticised a lot for the different programs that were proposed by him. The major efforts that were thereby taken by him related to the creation of jobs, projects related to public works and the reduction of wasteful spending by the government were also under huge levels of criticism. In the year 1932 the President had thereby established a committee named the Reconstruction Finance Corporation or RFC (Buble, Juras and Mati? 2014).

This organization was mainly developed for the purpose of providing loans to the businesses who have started facing danger based default. RFC had been able to lend huge amounts of money to organizations like, railroads, banks and the agricultural organizations as well. The law related to the Emergency Relief Construction Act had allowed the investment of 300 million Dollars to different states for the public works based projects. The Great Depression based issues had started to decrease in the year 1932, however the President was blamed by many people for the issues which were faced by the country. The Banking Relief based activities which were performed by President Roosevelt in the year 1933 were based on different strategies which were suggested earlier by Hoover (Cashman, 2017).

Herbert Hoover was thereby able to maintain the team based dynamics in an effective manner with the help of different activities which were conducted by him. Hoover was thereby considered to be a person who was always able to act in a proactive manner at the time of need. The leadership style which was followed by Hoover was thereby highly responsive in nature. According to Hoover, the effective leaders are those who are able to respond to different needs of people or employees who are a part of the organizational operations. The leaders need to go through extensive amounts of training in order to provide the efficient levels of services based on the needs and demands of people. The leaders are thereby able to motivate the employees effectively with the help of the help which is provided by them based on different operations. The compassionate and understanding nature of leaders has also been provided with huge levels of importance by Hoover (Chang, 2016).

The most important part of the leadership based qualities which have been depicted by him is based on the process of coordination with the members of the team in order to achieve the expected goals. Hoover was able to understand the needs of underprivileged people due to the ways by which he had been able to develop the expected in the industry. The influence and wealth which had been gained by Hoover was thereby used by Hoover in order to become a humanitarian leader. The responsibility which thereby needs to be taken by the leaders is highly important for the proper operations of the employees or individuals who are a part of the organizational operations. The leaders thereby need to face huge amounts of pressure and stress in their daily operations within the organizations. Therefore, understanding and empathy is able to play a major role in the effective operations of the modern companies (Covin and Slevin 2017).

Hoover was able to play the role of a leader in an efficient manner with the help which was provided by his team. Hoover had the ability to fight the situation which had taken place due to the Great Depression in the United States. The levels of determination and perseverance which was showed by the leader had been able to bring him huge levels of success in an effective manner. Hoover was thereby able to provide his help based on resolution of different issues to the nation and many other individuals who were affected in a huge manner by the issues that had taken place in the environment. The leaders who are able to follow the work process of Hoover thereby need to have high levels of determination in order to achieve the expected results (Kang, Solomon and Choi 2015). The leaders may have to face huge number of issues and hardships; however, they need to solve the issues in an efficient manner with the help of high levels of determination.

Profile of Herbert Clark Hoover

Hoover had been able to serve as the President of the United States till the year 1929. Roosevelt had succeeded him in the same position in the same year. The Roosevelt had appointed Hoover in a major position in the International Relief Organization. The management and leadership based skills which had been earlier depicted by Hoover were again required by Roosevelt which had been a major reason behind his appointment in the chair. Herbert had thereby played an important role in the proper management of the issues which were faced by the country based on effective financial crisis in different areas. The President had also provided public services in the 1950s (Khattak, Batool and Haider 2017).

The advice which was provided by Roosevelt had proved to be effective for the operations of many succeeding Presidents of the United States. The different management capabilities which were shown by Hoover in the term of his operations had been able to affect the reputation and influence which was developed by him in the country. This has played a major role in the development of a unique position of the leader in the United States. Even though he had to face major criticisms based on his operating styles, he was still able to build his image as a humanitarian leader who is able to understand the needs of people or individuals who are a part of his team (Leroy et al. 2015).

The major strengths of the leadership style which was followed by Hoover was based on the compassionate and humanitarian nature of operations in the market. Hoover had been able to develop considerable amounts of wealth during his terms of services which were provided to the famous engineering firm named Bewick, Morieng. He was mainly provided with the responsibility of managing the mines in different countries like, California. China and Australia. Hoover had thereafter acquired the position of managing partner in the company and was quite successful in life. However, his main journey had started after he had been able to establish effective connections with the US diplomats. Hoover had provided immense help to the government of the country in different issues which had started taking place after the World War had broken out in the year 1914 (Maak, Pless and Voegtlin 2016).

The transportation based facilities were thereby organized by him for the citizens. This had been turning point for Hoover in his life. He was thereby able to create a position in the government which further to his election as the President of the country. The Great Depression which took place soon after was a major testing point for the work process of Hoover. The entire operations of the government were facilitated in an effective manner by the steps which were thereby taken by Hoover. The strength of his leadership style was based on the ways by which he was able to provide his services to the people and his compassionate nature as well. The leadership qualities of Hoover were also depicted in an effective manner by the position which was acquired by him in the Food Administration department. His compassionate nature had been helpful in developing a group of admirers who had promoted him for the position of President (McCleskey 2014).

Leadership Qualities of Herbert Clark Hoover

The weakness of his leadership is thereby based on the ways by which he had faced issues related to the Great Depression which had occurred in the country. The failure of different steps which were taken by him in this respect have proved to be major weaknesses of the leader. These failures had thereby been able to depict the weaknesses of his management and leadership based capabilities. The steps which were taken by him were based on the resolution of different issues, however they had failed in providing the desired results to Hoover. The crash of stock market after the occurrence of Great Depression had also affected the leadership based decisions which were thereby taken by Hoover in the term of services in the US Government (Mendenhall et al. 2017).

The report can be concluded by stating that the leadership based activities of Herbert Hoover was based on the strengths and weaknesses of his operations. Hoover had been able to solve the various issues which were thereby faced by the citizens of the country due to the onset of Great Depression. The compassionate nature which was shown by him in this case had played a major role in the ways by which he had developed a positon in the country. The role which had been played by Hoover during the relief operations after World War had provided him with a major position in the government of the country, which further led to his election as the President. These weaknesses were thereby based on the ways by which his moves were highly criticised by different people and organizations.
