It was first introduced in 1995 and the first revision was in 2002, the second revision was in 2004, then in 2008 and finally in 2017.

ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207:2017 delivers procedures that can be engaged for describing, regulatory, and refining software lifecycle manners within an association or a venture.

There are some outlines within the standards, which would be helpful for delivering the processes within the approximate time. These standards are also meant to support the condition of interoperability (Laporte, Houde and Marvin 2014). They are mainly responsible for building a framework for any kind of organization. This would be helpful for guiding the organization in achieving the present goals. There are also some form of applications, which accord to the set standards based within the ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207:2017. Hence, the role of standards could play a major role within the ICT industry (Henderson-Sellers et al. 2014).
