Prepare a Progress Report for submission to the family (as your client). The report needs to include:

1. an Introduction outlining the purpose of the report and what is contains;
2. the project status detailing completions, slips and delays;
3. implications of any changes made on the resources required to complete the project;
4. details of all adjustments made to the schedule, and why you made these adjustments; and
5. a personal reflection on the process.

Introduction and Purpose of Report

This project is based on the relocation of Jeff and his family that includes his wife, children and dogs. Due to change in job for Jeff, the entire family has to relocate from Sunshine Coast to Perth. In the previous report, the entire plan was developed that included packing and leaving of the existing rental apartment, reaching Perth and then relocating to the new rental apartment. Due to the time difference between leaving Sunshine Coast and entering new apartment in Perth, it was decided that the family will stay in Perth hotel after reaching there before the commencement of the new rental. However, a new situation has arrived in which, Kelly has been sick and needs to be rested for 2 weeks. Furthermore, hotels at Perth will not be available for some time due to some event celebrations. Hence, suitable changes are required in the relocation plan for Jeff & Kelly and their family.

As a result of the new situations as mentioned in the case study, some changes are to be made in the project schedule. The main changes are highlighted in yellow in the following table.

In this table, there are some activities that are highlighted in yellow. These activities have been added considering the new conditions presented in the scenario compared to the previous scenario. As per the previous plan, the family was to check out from the existing apartment, travel to Perth and stay in a hotel in Perth until their new rental starts. However, Kelly has fallen sick and requires 2 weeks of bed rest. Accordingly, the schedule has been changed such that Kelly can have the rest in hospital and meanwhile, the rest of the family will stay in a hotel in Sunshine Coast. After Kelly is released, they will travel to Perth and by that time, their new rental will start and the delayed delivery of the luggage will be completed.

The addition of new activities in the project has resulted in some addition of budget to the total budget prepared by Jeff. The new resource costs and the revised budget are shown in the following table.

In this phase, the changes include moving of rest of the family to a local hotel and then travel to Perth after Kelly is released from the hospital. This change incurs an additional $700 for hotel cost.

Based on the changes, the total budget of Jeff increases to $14,800, which is more than the initial expenditure planned by Jeff. However, the budget still remains within the $15,000 limit set by Jeff and hence, the project is still feasible for Jeff and his family.

This module has given me valuable lesson in the field of project management and has allowed me to test my complex problem solving skills. I have learnt the application of various project management software and techniques to develop appropriate project plan based on the challenges presented by a scenario like above. I have also learnt to incorporate various changes within the scenario in order to bypass challenges presented in the scenario. In addition to the lessons specific to this learning course, I have also developed certain skills as follows.

  • I have learnt to work in a team as I and several of my classmates have worked together at different phases of the module. In this respect, I also learnt to create my own content that is not similar to any of my team member’s work.
  • I have learnt the value of academic honesty during this course and hence, I understood that I can only deliver works that are my own and are not plagiarized.
  • I developed significant skill in facing challenging problems and gained ability to solve these challenges using personal and subject specific knowledge and skills.
