Scenario

In your position of line manager where you work predominantly on the shop floor in a hand’s on role, you have made the observation that the workforce work as individuals and do not work as a team. You have been conducting research on team dynamics and team working and you have some ideas to improve employee performance in the factory.

You have mentioned this to your department manager and she has asked you to produce a management report.

  • Explain what makes an effective team as opposed to an ineffective team.
  • Analyse relevant team and group development theories to support the development of dynamic cooperation.
  • Apply concepts and philosophies of organisational behaviour to a given  business situation.

Section 1: Analyze the Influence of Culture

Organizational behaviour is the study of human behaviour from the perspective of organizational setting that occurs between organization and employees. While being associated with a business process, the employees have to follow a proper organizational values, beliefs and disciplines in order to maintain floor etiquette. This particular behavioural approach is otherwise named as organizational behaviour. In last five years, it is observed that Oracle is receiving immense internal issues due to which organizational behaviour is being hampered day by day. It ultimately reflects on the organizational reputation as well as productivity. Oracle Corporation is chosen for conducting this study and analysing different aspects of organizational behaviour.

Oracle Corporation is one of the most recognizable IT brands chains occupying recognizable place in the realm of American IT industry. Headquartered in California this particular organization has expanded their computer technology services chain in the multinational market. The organization is constituted with total US$ 51.17 in the market of USA. In order to maintain the entire operation process successfully Oracle has to follow proper organizational ethics and behaviour where people belonging to different cultural backgrounds and attitudes can easily be comfortable in providing services. This very specific study has focused to provide detailed overview about the impact of culture and political aspects on the overall organizational behaviour of Oracle. The study has focused to give detailed overview on how effective cultural and political background can influence overall internal set up of organization. In the case scenario, the responsibility of a line manager in handling organizational culture is critically evaluated in this study.

Analyse the influence of culture

While evaluating the organizational culture of Oracle Corporation it is however observed that Oracle believes in participative and cooperative form of work. Reason (2016) opined that participative form of work believes that both employers and the employees would like to participate equally in taking company’s business decision. People belonging to various geographical backgrounds and attitudes are associated within the operations of Oracle. As per the organisational culture of Oracle, language barrier does not get the first priority with the help of which people can judge their competency level. Oracle’s culture allows the human resource managers in recruiting those employees who are from diverse cultural backgrounds and attitudes. Oracle intends to recruit those employees who are from various geographical backgrounds and attitudes.

In addition, as per the workplace culture followed by the organizational experts, employees tend to follow agile work environment. The overarching term agile work environment implies on how a business organization maintains flexible work culture at the floor for maintaining easy and casual work atmosphere. Cummings and Worley (2014) stated that agile environment allows the employees in maintaining liberal environment at the workplace. Employees can make their sitting arrangement as per their comfort zone. As a result, the employees can deal with those people with whom they are comfortable enough in providing effective services (Goetsch and Davis 2014). In addition, it has also been observed that by using agile work environment the business experts have implemented rotational duty hour in order to maintain work flexibility.

Section 2: Impact of Political Environment on Organizational Behaviour

Bruce Tuckman’s Team Development model is primarily constituted with five major stages including forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. In the stage of forming a particular team, the business experts have to select the team members as per their expertise level. In the stage of storming, team members emerge and exchange their views and thoughts with each other. Norming is the stage where team starts working with full enthusiasm and the team members do not make any criticism about the team members. Performing stage is the most vital phase when the team members have to prove their level of capabilities. Adjourning is the stage when the leader can get an option of dissolving the entire team and form a new.

However, this kind of organisational culture implemented at the workplace of Oracle influence on the employee behaviour at in organizational context. Hogan and Coote (2014) commented that after being associated with such kind of flexible work culture employees can maintain their work life balance very effectively. In this kind of situation, they do not have to face challenges in providing superior quality of services to the customers. Employees tend to show their enthusiastic attitude in performing well in order to achieve the business (Sabharwal 2014). At the same time, workplace flexibility and effective work life balance helps in maintaining proper organizational behaviour and discipline within Oracle.

Meredith Belbin’s Team Role implies on how employees while working within a team have to go through nine major responsibilities. The primary role that a team member has to take is the role of an implementer who implements different activities within team in maintaining courageous attitude among the team members. Resource investigator is appointed in collecting data from numerous team members working together. Plant and monitoring is the phase where the business leaders analyze various business situations and implement a particular business plan within it.  The role of shaper and coordinator is to shape the entire team activities with the help of which product can be delivered systematically (Sabharwal 2014). Finisher takes the responsibility of finishing the entire task by fulfilling customers’ needs and demands. At the end of entire team activity, the business expert appoints a specialist who evaluates the quality of team productivity effectively.

As per the political set of USA, it can be stated that this particular country is endowed with stable political set up where the people belonging to various geographical backgrounds attitudes do not have to face political burden. Belias and Koustelios (2014) stated that business experts could get the scope of taking their independent decision in terms of recruiting their employees. In addition, while implementing business regulations and acts the government tends to co-operate the business experts by maintaining transparency in their business strategies and taxation policies (Anderson, Poto?nik and Zhou 2014). In this kind of positive political environment, the organization has already created a positive environment on the overall behaviour of the employees.

Motivational Process Theory is primarily constituted with two major types’ equity and inequity. Equity maintains the current business situation with the help of which the business experts evaluate the actual business scenario. Inequity phase is a transformational phase where the business experts have to render changes to motivate the employees towards services.

Motivational Process Theory

Herzberg in two factors theory has implemented the fact that job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction is the two major parts with which every employee goes through. If the employees are influenced with over burden of pressure and in-agile workspace, the employees get dissatisfied. If the employees get effective motivation within work place, they automatically get an enthusiastic attitude towards the services. However, Herzberg has stated that the business experts need to implement effective environment at the workplace so that employees get motivated in performing well towards the services. It can help in rendering organizational success as well.

Four types of organizational culture popularized by Charles Handy include Power culture, Role culture, Task culture and Support Culture. With the help of power culture implementation, the employees have to anticipate what is expected from the power holders. As per the instruction of power holders, the employees have to work in accordingly. Role Culture implies the fact that employees should know about their roles and responsibilities. Oracle always segregates the employees as per their designations. Designations are made as per academic qualifications (DiPaola and Tschannen-Moran 2014). Task culture is inseparably related to role culture. As per the expertise, level of the employees the business experts segregates the team members in different zones and allocates tasks in accordingly. Support culture of Oracle Corporation believes in the fact that employees should support each other while delivering services. As per expert level, the employees should segregate their work in accordingly.

As already stated, Oracles’ culture allows the human resource managers in recruiting those employees who are from diverse cultural backgrounds and attitudes (Wang and Rafiq 2014). Oracle intends to recruit those employees who are from various geographical backgrounds and attitudes. Thus, it has also been observed that by using agile work environment the business experts have implemented rotational duty hour in order to maintain work flexibility. After being associated with such kind of flexible work culture employees can maintain their work life balance very effectively. In this kind of situation, they do not have to face challenges in providing superior quality of services to the customers. Shanafelt et al. (2015) stated that this very specific study has focused to make detailed overview about the impact of organizations’ culture and politics on the overall team performance.

Vroom and Latham and Locke has depicted goal-setting theory, which evaluates that in meeting business goal the business experts have to concentrate on employee performances. Employee performances help the business experts in achieving organizational goals. Manojlovich and Ketefian (2016) opined that individual performance is least effective than group performance. In order to reach the peak of success the organization has to focus on the performance level of team rather than focusing on individual performances (DiPaola and Tschannen-Moran 2014). However, in order to encourage the teams associated with Oracle’s operations, the organization has to concentrate on implementing such strategies and policies applicable for development of a team rather an individual person.

Path goal theory of leadership believes in specifying leaders’ style and behaviour while directing the employees towards right path. Path goal theory implies what particular leadership style is the most effective in motivating the employees towards researching the business goals and objectives. Based on the power of business authority the team decides what kind of performances the business experts would like to provide to the customers. In this kind of situation, the organization like Oracle intends to follow democratic form of leadership style at the workplace. Bortolotti, Boscari and Danese (2015) opined that democratic form of leadership style allows both the employees and the employers in making collaborative decision at the workplace. In this kind of situation, employees tend to show their enthusiastic zeal in performing well form meeting organizational needs and demands. Participative form of leadership style is also very effective based on which employees can be shared their own point of view regarding the success of business. Hogg and Terry (2014) stated that participative form of leadership style helps the employees in maintaining a liberal attitude at the workplace. Before implementing the strategy of compensation and benefit, the business leaders associated with operations of Oracle have conducted a session in order to discuss the pros and cons of these strategies and policies. As a result, employees have shown their effective endeavour in providing good services to the customers.

In this very specific part, the study has focused to evaluate critically on how culture, politics and power of an organisation can influence individual and team behaviour and performance. The study has involved the opinion of numerous eminent scholars who has provided different point of views regarding the importance of effective culture and politics on the organizational performances and behaviour of team member. Valmohammadi and Roshanzamir (2015) stated that Oracle’s business experts do not follow any kind of internal politics at their workplace. The management has implemented diversity management strategy. With the help of diversity management, strategy and policies employees belonging to different cultural backgrounds and attitudes are associated with business process (Laschinger et al. 2014). The business experts are very much flexible with different cultural people and psychological attitudes.

People who are not flexible enough in maintaining effective communication the business experts have implemented both verbal and non-verbal communication method. Shanafelt and Noseworthy (2017) commented that non-verbal communication method allows the employees in sharing their views and thoughts by written communication method. Written communication is generally applied in order to maintain any kind of formal conversation at the workplace for the purpose of distributing messages equally to the target stakeholders. People belonging to various geographical backgrounds and attitude are get equal information regarding business agendas. The organization like Oracle intends to follow democratic form of leadership style at the workplace. Aier (2014) stated that democratic form of leadership style allows both the employees and the employers in making collaborative decision at the workplace.

Lee, Shiue and Chen (2016) stated that participative form of leadership style helps the employees in maintaining a liberal attitude at the workplace. Before implementing the strategy of compensation and benefit, the business leaders associated with operations of Oracle have conducted a session in order to discuss the pros and cons of these strategies and policies. Gu et al. (2014) has opposed the point of view that participative leadership style or democratic form of work culture is not always healthy for maintaining effective work environment. Naranjo-Valencia et al. (2016) stated that effective communication skill allows the employees in maintaining a coherent relationship with the managers as well as with the colleagues. This very specific study has focused to make detailed overview about the impact of proper organizational culture and power in the overall behaviour of employees as well as team performances.

In order to achieve business goals and organizational objectives the role of employees is undeniable. Reason (2016) opined that based on employee performance the organization gets the opportunity of their future development. Therefore, every business experts intend to apply motivational strategies and policies in order to encourage the employees towards providing good services. The ways of motivating the employees towards reaching business goals are follows:

Goetsch and Davis (2014) opined that the organization would have to implement reward and recognition policy based on which employees would like to show their interest in performing well towards the services. Rewards and recognition implies the fact social recognition as well as monitory recognition. Oracle being one of the most prestigious brands in retail industry intends to prefer implementing monitory schemes rather than preferring recognition policy. Recognition policy enables the employees in taking additional burden for the customers. At the same time, proper recognition policy is very much effective in motivating the employees for maintaining additional duty hour as well. In case of bonus and incentive schemes and policies, the employees tend to show their interest in providing their effort towards superior quality of customer services. Hogan and Coote (2014) has opined from another point of view that Oracle has maintained immense number of employee retention policies by implementing R&R schemes, bonus schemes, social recognition schemes and so on.

Work flexibility is one of the most significant factors, which immensely encourage the employees in providing productive output to the organization. Work flexibility implies agile workspace, flexible work hour and effective communication with each other, good rapport between senior and juniors, good management policies and so on. Anderson, Poto?nik and Zhou (2014) commented that work flexibility plays one of the most significant roles in encouraging the participants in reaching business goals. Oracles’ business experts have implemented rotational duty hours. Employees are allowed to complete 8 hours of work schedule at the end of day. They do not have to follow any particular time schedule for logging in the office. Employees are allowed to sit at their comfort zone. They do not have to follow any strict sitting arrangement while providing services. People having communication barrier can get easily interact with each other by following non-verbal communication method.

Sabharwal (2014) opined that non-verbal communication method allows the employees in sharing their views and thoughts by written communication method. Written communication is generally applied in order to maintain any kind of formal conversation at the workplace for the purpose of distributing messages equally to the target stakeholders. In addition, the business authority always tries to maintain friendly work environment that allows the employees in delivering superior quality of services. People belonging to various geographical backgrounds and attitudes can feel comfortable in working under friendly environment.

Belias and Koustelios (2014) opined that while being associated with the organization, the business experts have to be very much concerned about the health issues faced by the employees at their workplace. Employees need to get security and assurance while providing services. Along with getting sufficient amount of money, the employees need safety and security. In this kind of situation, the organizations like Oracle need to get effective communication in dealing with the customers properly. Sabharwal (2014) commented that health and security is one of the most effective concerns that every employee seeks for getting business reputation. The organization would have to implement health and safety act effectively with the help of which employees would not have to face challenges in being associated with the organization.

In order to motivate the employees towards new operations and advancement of digital technology the business experts would have to provide effective training and development session to the employees. With the rapid progress of globalization the business experts are getting accustomed with the advancement of technology. The organizational experts intend to maintain their conversation through Skype or other social media channels.  As business experts do not make any verbal chaos on the work floor. Belias and Koustelios (2014) emphasized that proper training and development session is very much helpful in making the employees competent towards technology. At the same time, proper training skill can improve the performance level of the employees. They can improve management skill and competency.

In order to implement effective motivational theory the organization can follow Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. Maslow’s hierarchy of need theory allows the business experts in giving the employees proper dignity and respect with the help of which employees can perform well towards the services (Anderson, Poto?nik and Zhou 2014). The business experts need to get social recognition and monitory benefits and facilities so that they can perform well towards the services. Wang and Rafiq (2014) stated that people belonging to various geographical backgrounds and attitudes could feel comfortable in working under friendly environment. Along with getting sufficient amount of money, the employees need safety and security. In this kind of situation, the organizations like Oracle needs to get effective communication in dealing with the customers properly.

Health and security is one of the most effective concerns that every employee seeks for getting business reputation. In addition, effective motivational theory can encourage the employees in achieving the business goals. Cummings and Worley (2014) commented that people implement motivational theory in order to get an enthusiastic approach towards the services. The organization like Oracle would have to implement effective behavioural approach as well so that people belonging to various psychological backgrounds and attitudes can give productive work with full coordination (Hogan and Coote 2014). The customers can get quality services from the stakeholders, which ultimately increases organizational goodwill and reputation.

Schien Culture Triangle has described organizational culture in three different ways that include Artifacts, Espoused values and basic underlying assumption. Artifacts are the visible signs existing at the workplace. For an example, in order to maintain a proper corporate etiquette employees of Oracle have to follow proper formal corporate dresses unanimously. Espoused values signify the core values and ethics that the employees have to maintain at the workplace. Oracle always imposes their employees in maintaining effective behavioural rapport at the workplace. Underlying assumptions implies on how a new employee perceives things happened at the workplace. If that individual person does not fit with organizational culture and etiquette, they have to assume what necessary steps the business experts have to follow while achieving the goals and objectives.

Anderson, Poto?nik and Zhou (2014) opined that different ways of motivational techniques have already discussed in this very specific study. Giving the employees proper rewards and recognition and providing them immense support, the business experts can motivate the employees in order to get productive work (Goetsch and Davis 2014). Therefore, the customers get proper and superior quality of services. While analyzing the various dimensions of motivation, it has been identified that motivation techniques influence the organizational culture in both the direct and direct manner. Therefore, it can be said that motivation is the independent variable and organizational culture is the dependent variable. In order to integrate the members in a group, the organizational culture is very effective. In order to introduce the change benefits in the workplace, the organizational politics have higher level of significance. Interaction process in the workplace can get hampered due to unhealthy organizational politics. In order to deal with the situation, incentive system can play a motivational role for overcoming the situation.

In a healthy organizational politics, the employees get the chance to show their potentiality through bringing the creativity. In this process, the creative organizational ideas are being introduced. Implementing healthy training program, organizational politics are required so that competitive environment among the employees can be maintained. As its result, it increases organizational productivity as well as business image and reputation. It cannot be denied that a healthy organizational politics can help to encourage the employee towards involving himself or herself in different problem solving situations. In the esteem needs, the needs for self-confidence, self-esteem and respect are being involved. In motivational theory, self-actualization is being considered as the realization of potentiality and talent. It is true that after fulfilment of physical needs of water and food, the human behaviour is being dominated by the safety needs. Social needs include the relationship, love and friendship. Due to socialized nature, physical need of a person includes thirst, sleep and hunger needs.

In order to maintain effective organizational culture at the workplace of Oracle, the business experts need to follow hofstede’s cultural dimension, which is constituted with four prominent stages including Power distance index, Individualism vs. Collectivism, Masculinity Versus Femininity and Uncertainty Avoidance. Power distance index signifies the senior members impose to implement their power within juniors at the workplace. In this kind of situation, the junior members have to face innumerable challenges in delivering quality services towards customers. Oracle organizational culture however focuses on providing equal priority to both senior and junior employees. Skills and competency level gets the first priority. Masculinity vs. Femininity implies that both male and female employees should get equal respect from the business authority. Large number of organizations is there existing in the IT industry of America who provides their biased attitude towards female employees. In order to avoid the schemes of maternity leaves and numerous additional facilities needed for female the business experts do not promote female employees in higher position. Oracle however gives equal priority to both male and female employees while hiring people towards services. Individual vs. Collectivism signifies whether individual or group work should get effective priority in achieving business success. By following Hofstede’s cultural dimension, Oracle has provided their importance in-group work in order to long-term business goals and objectives. In order to avoid uncertainties and risk factors the business experts associated with Oracle implements alternative options and business opportunities.

Motivational theories are being considered as the major key drivers in the organizational performance (Healy 2016). Through the motivational theories, the organizations get the chance to introduce better performance in the workplace. Employee motivation depends on the fulfilment of their needs. Highlighting the Maslow motivation theory, the behavioural influence of a person has been analyzed. In the year 1940, psychologist Abraham Maslow introduced the motivation theory of individuals. Using the hierarchical triangle, the theory has been introduced by the psychologist.

In order to recognize the sense of wellbeing Maslow theory can be beneficial. In this theory, five types of needs have been introduced. Physical need of a person includes thirst, sleep and hunger needs. According to the psychologists these are the essential needs of individuals, without these it becomes harder for a person to survive in the world (De Vit et al. 2018). Social needs include the relationship, love and friendship. Due to socialized nature human, engaging in social activities, group membership, receiving and love are being considered as important social needs of individuals. In the Maslow theory, protection and security are the safety needs. It is true that after fulfilment of physical needs of water and food, the human behaviour is being dominated by the safety needs (Stoyanov 2017). In order to fulfil the natural desire of a person, the safety needs are required. Self-actualization is being considered as the realization of potentiality and talent. In order to drive the needs of individuals, it has become very important for everyone to analyze own talent (De Vit et al. 2018). In the esteem needs, the needs for self-confidence, self-esteem and respect are being involved. In this process, individuals are appreciated for their achievements, which can help to influence their behaviour. Apart from Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, the organization has implemented several leadership theories as well in order to direct the employees towards proper ways. At the same time, the organization can implement trait theory of leadership in order to encourage the employees towards achieving a new goal. This very strategy is highly effective in motivating the employees for performing well towards the services. At the same time, behavioural theory can help the employees in maintaining effective organizational culture and behaviour.

In order to determine the organizational success, the organizational culture plays an effective role. In case of formulating the workplace through the interaction process between employees in the workplace business experts need to conduct effective session (Alvesson and Sveningsson 2015). Innovative behaviour among the employees can encourage the rate of productivity. Therefore, it has become necessary for the organizations to develop motivational framework for increasing employee engagement in the workplace. With this initiative, it will be easier for the company to maintain its sustainable position in the market. As stated by An and Van Dyne (2015), the organizational culture and motivation is interlinked, in that case, the organization should be responsible for developing effective decision-making process, in which employees will be able to participate in the organizational decision making situations. On the other hand, Organizational politics is being considered as influential elements in organizational culture. It cannot be denied that a healthy organizational politics can help to encourage the employee towards involving himself or herself in different problem solving situations. By arguing this, Pettigrew (2014) stated that with unhealthy organizational politics, communication gap among the employees increases. It influences different types of discrimination as well internal conflicts in the workplace.

Management soft skill is highly significant in order to maintain an effective rapport with the existing employees. Management soft skill is the cluster of productive personality trait, which is very much healthy and effective in motivating employee towards business performances. In order to motivate organizational managers the business experts have to show liberal attitude towards the employees so that employees are not hesitated in highlighting their concern.

As stated by Sarooghi, Libaers and Burkemper (2015), it cannot be denied that money is an important motivational factor for every employee, but it is also true that money does not solely motivate employees. Depending on the daily activities in an organization, the organizational culture can be influenced. As stated by Saleem (2015), depending on the potentiality of the employees, the organizational culture can be flourished. It is true that employees’ potentiality can be increased depending on the motivational framework adopted by the organization. Therefore, it can be said that motivation is the independent variable and organizational culture is the dependent variable. In order to integrate the members in a group, the organizational culture is very effective. In an effective organizational culture, employees get the chance to motivate each other by using their potentiality, which influence creativity and innovation in the workplace. Employee motivation is being considered as the supportive culture that can help to determine interaction process in the workplace. After analyzing the various dimensions of motivation, it has been identified that motivation techniques influence the organizational culture in both the direct and direct manner. After examining the market trend from last two decades, it has been identified that the organizational culture are being influenced by the multidimensional motivation techniques (Mizrahi, Vashdi and Vigoda-Gadot 2016). The positive culture in an organization helps to perform, communicate and learn in a healthy atmosphere.

On the other hand, organizational politics are being considered as the power that can help to involve the employer in both social and economic process (Pettigrew 2014). In order to introduce the change benefits in the workplace, the organizational politics have higher level of significance. In order to analyze the credibility gaps in the organization, the organizational politics and motivational framework are very important to be implemented in the workplace. Organizational politics affects the organizational culture in both positive and negative manner. Some of the cases, the organizational politics increases anxiety and stress in the workplace. Interaction process in the workplace can get hampered due to unhealthy organizational politics. In order to deal with the situation, incentive system can play a motivational role for overcoming the situation. Organizational politics results the negative organizational culture that can be improved by the motivational framework. It is also true that getting loyal employees, an organization needs to focus on improving its organizational politics. In a healthy organizational politics, the employees get the chance to show their potentiality through bringing the creativity. In this process, the creative organizational ideas are being introduced. Implementing healthy training program, organizational politics are required so that competitive environment among the employees can be maintained. As its result, it increases productivity as well as encourages the employees towards achieving their goals. Hence, the organizational culture, organizational politics and motivation are interconnected with each other.

In order to improve the performance level of employees Oracle would have to implement training and development session in order to enhance communication skill as well as technological competency of the employees.  The organization would have to implement reward and recognition policy based on which employees would like to show their interest in performing well towards the services. In addition, work flexibility is one of the most significant factors, which immensely encourage the employees in providing productive output to the organization. Employees are allowed to complete 8 hours of work schedule at the end of day. They do not have to follow any particular time schedule for logging in the office. The organization would have to implement health and safety act effectively with the help of which employees would not have to face challenges in being associated with the organization.

1. Demonstrate and understand on how to cooperate effectively with others through organizational behaviour

From the business case scenario, it has been observed that Oracle is facing the issue regarding encouraging teamwork rather than working individually that can support the organization in attaining its long-term objectives. Implementation of suitable organizational behaviour theories and procedures can facilitate the companies in cooperating effectively with the team members of the organizations. Ahmadi, Nami and Barvarz (2014) revealed that organizational behaviour serves includes aspects such as leadership, motivation, decision making and openness to discuss issues that can facilitate in increasing the interaction level among the individuals working within the organization. Based on the situation of the organization, it is necessary to understand the informal and formal organization formed within the workplace that can be handled in a better manner in promoting teamwork (Arnulf et al. 2014). In better team management within organizations, elaborated that informal organizations within organizations are developed by employees in the workplace for the satisfaction of cultural needs and for developing a sense of personal belonging and identity in the company. Moreover, to attain success of the long-term objectives set by organizations, implementation of organizational behaviour theories can facilitate in highlighting the deficiencies within the formal origination such as increased time taken to accomplish a task (Barry and Wilkinson2016).

In order to make collaborative teamwork at the workplace current business structure of Oracle is using the advancement of technology. Effective advancement of technology enables the business experts in providing work that is more productive within stipulated deadline. The entire workflow becomes faster and systematic that enables the business experts in maintaining chronological database. In addition, communication through email or social media platform can deliver equal messages to all the concerned stakeholders. The entire operation becomes very much systematic and low time consuming that reflects in maintaining positive work environment and organizational culture.

In promoting teamwork within the retail organizations, it has been gathered that it is important to follow the concepts of organizational behaviour through describing the personality of employees working within companies and the ways in which it is different from other people. Through measuring the characteristics and differences, most of the organizations can implement suitable theories of organizational behaviour in promoting teamwork culture. For instance, psychometrics approach is deemed to be highly important process in assessing and measuring the aptitude, personality and intelligence of different employees (Biswas 2015). Moreover, it also facilitates in analysing the unique character of employees along with measuring and realising personality differences among these employees. Teamwork culture is important in attaining a common organizational objective within the business and focussed on the same, two major organizational behaviour theories such as Leadership theory and Maslow’s Motivation theory can facilitate in developing the process of group work (Butler et al. 2016).

Some of the most significant ways are there which can make a team effective and productive. There are several organizational behaviour approaches those are important in improving the personality of the employees that can further facilitate in encouraging teamwork within the company. Certain most effective approaches of organization behaviour that can be implemented in the organizations to enhance the team work culture that is explained under:

  • Group thinking:Group thinking is an effective organizational behaviour practice that can address the chance of faulty decision making in a group (Conger 2017). Groups must be encouraged to be involved in the process of group thinking in which all the decision-making alternatives can be considered. Moreover, the companies must also consider developing task oriented along with problem solving groups those are predominantly susceptible to groupthink. The issue of direct pressure on the individual employees can be addressed along with motivating them to share their views that can facilitate the organizations in attaining common goal (Fransen and Burgoon 2015).
  • Relationship building:This approach of the organizational behaviour can encourage in building interpersonal compatibilities that affects the individual differences in frictions, feelings and tensions. It can also facilitate in decreasing the conflict that can be faced by the employees in working individually such as frustration and difference in opinionof these employees. Task related conflict can also be dealt with through encouraging relationship building (Gagné, Sharma and De Massis2014). This can be done through encouraging cooperation among group members in meeting the final long-term goals. Relationship building can be developed through encouraging healthy argument on their solving complex issues through attaining continuous feedback from the internal as well as external sources. In addition, encouraging cooperation towards team work through developing and sharing common needs, values and interests focussed on the long-term objectives’ attainment (Goudarzvand Chegini et al. 2018).
  • Generating value: To encourage the culture of teamwork within the organization’s generation of good value through developing personal beliefs or ideas within a team setting. Moreover, the managers of the companies must also focus on taking control over issues that is faced within a team that can include conflicts, risky shifts, social loafing along with group thinking. It is important to follow the concepts of organizational behaviour through describing the personality of employees working within companies and the ways in which it is different from other people (Kumari and Rajput 2015). In such scenario, for attaining the long-term satiability objective, the company’s managers must focus on addressing conflict resolution through acting as mediators, dispute resolution officers or negotiators based on the nature of conflict faced in the teamwork.

Some of the major difficult situations are there Oracle has faced while running their business. Communication barrier is one of the most effective challenges due to which employees associated with Oracle fail to provide proper services. People from different cultural and psychological backgrounds have to face language barriers. As a result, they fail to maintain effective communication with each other. On the other hand, psychological barrier is other significant reasons due to which the business experts fail to maintain proper floor etiquette. Oracle follows diversity management in order to give priority to the skilful and competent employees. Diversity management sometimes affects in following proper organizational culture. Due to diversity management the business experts have to face innumerable cultural barriers which reflects on the decision making process ultimately. In order to overcome those difficult situations the organization would have to provide effective training and development session to the employees. As a result, employees would not face any difficulty in communicating with the people of various cultural and psychological backgrounds and attitudes.

Some of the major threats are there in adopting participative and cohesive teamwork. This very specific author has opined that cohesive team environment is not always helpful in maintaining effective organizational culture. While providing different opinion regarding a particular business goals and objectives the business experts get confused in making effective decisions. In addition, the employees try to create unnecessary chaos within workplace, which ultimately hampers organizational productivity. However, as per the opinion of this eminent scholar the business experts need to organize some effective training and development session on management skill and communication skill.

Apply concepts and philosophies of organisational behaviour to a given business situation

Implementation of suitable organizational behaviour theories and procedures can facilitate the companies in cooperating effectively with the team members of the organizations. Organizational behaviour philosophies include aspects such as leadership, motivation, decision making and openness to discuss issues that can facilitate in increasing the interaction level among the individuals working within the organization (Qureshi 2017). The concept and philosophies of organizational behaviourism applicable in the situation faced by Oracle Limited to encourage team work and support the long-term sustainability strategies of the company. It has been observed that Oracle Company is dealing with the issue of low quality secure along with poor communication among the team members that are affecting the team achievement of organizational goal in the company (Van Knippenberg, Van Prooijenand Sleebos 2015). The managers intend to maintain soft communication with the employees. With the help of hard instruction or communication business managers intend to impose their own decision on the employees. Consequently, employees get de-motivated in performing well towards the services. In addition, the ultimate goal of implementing suitable organizational behaviour concepts and philosophies in this company is to encourage employee motivation through team building.

Through implementing Mitchell’s path goal theory, at the beginning of the employee’s career, the management of Oracle Company can attain a deeper understanding regarding meeting organizational goals and objectives. Such recognition can facilitate the management in developing the opportunity to develop the personality of the employees in a manner that can encourage them in handling more responsibility in the workplace (Arnulf et al. 2014). This will also motivate them in sharing their job responsibilities within a team for the benefit of the organization in attaining long-term sustainability. To encourage the culture of teamwork within the Oracle, generation of good value through developing personal beliefs or ideas within a team setting is necessary. Moreover, the managers of the companies must also focus on taking control over issues that is faced within a team that can include conflicts, risky shifts, social loafing along with group thinking(Barry and Wilkinson2016). It is important to follow the concepts of organizational behaviour through describing the personality of employees working within companies and the ways in which it is different from other people (Arnulf et al. 2014). In such scenario, for attaining the long-term satiability objective, the company’s managers must focus on addressing conflict resolution through acting as mediators, dispute resolution officers or negotiators based on the nature of confect faced in the teamwork.

Maslow’s theory of motivation can be used by Oracle as an effective driving force for employee performance and behaviour. To encourage team performance within the company this motivation theory is deemed to be suitable as this theory can facilitate in understanding the kinds of needs people has and the condition in which they desire to exemplify such needs. For instance, in encouraging teamwork and attainment of common goal in Oracle, setting deadlines can serve as an effective external motivation (Barry and Wilkinson2016). This is for the reason that it can create fear of losing a contract and along with that, a pressure of finishing the job on time can serve as an example of internal motivation. This theory believes that there is significant relationship among behaviour and motivation in a group. To encourage team work culture in Oracle, this theory considers that there is a need to address the lower level needs of all the employees working within the team (Barry and Wilkinson2016). As per the theory such basic needs include psychological, safety, security, social, law and affection and esteem need of employees. Addressing such needs of the employees can motivate them in satisfying their demands those are focuses on their growth, self-actualization, and satisfying personal needs through which they can attain common organizational perspective.

The basic human needs those must be addressed through Maslow’s Motivation theory in encouraging teamwork within Oracle are explained under:

  • Self-actualization needs

After developing the culture of teamwork in Oracle, the management must focus on address the needs of employees that include being self-aware, personal growth and fulfilling their own potential (Gagné, Sharma and De Massis2014).

  • Esteem needs

To deal with the conflict in teamwork culture of Oracle, the management of the company must focus on encouraging their self-esteem, personal worth, social recognition and accomplishment. Ensuring such organizational behaviour philosophies can facility the employees in staying motivated to work collaboratively with the other group members.

  • Social needs

Social needs must be encouraged by Oracle Company that must consider increasing the feeling of belonging, love and affection. Relationship building in such scenario is considered to be important through developing the feeling of companionship and acceptance as involvement in social, community and religious groups (Gagné, Sharma and De Massis2014).

  • Security needs-

Oracle Company maintains its survival through encouraging teamwork must address security needs. For instance, in the company must also consider including steady employment, health insurance, safe neighbourhoods and management support within the workforce.

  • Psychological needs-

The psychological needs to be addressed by the management of Oracle for ensuring the team work environment in the company. The company must address the most basic along with instinctive needs within the hierarchy. Through implementing this theory, Oracle can attain long-term sustainable strategies by encouraging employees by offering them monetary gains or assuring job security (Goudarzvand Chegini et al. 2018).

The Oracle Company must consider leadership theories in encouraging teamwork within the company. This organizational behaviour theory used within the company can facilitate in influencing respect, politeness and dignity in creating a strong and loyal cooperation in attaining common long-term organizational objective. In case of Oracle Company has been observed that the organizational behaviour based contingency model that can facilitate the company in determining the success of teamwork culture. This serves as one of the effective leadership techniques that can act as a vital tool in establishing the accurate behaviour of the team members so that they can follow vital roles depending in the situation faced by the company (Goudarzvand Chegini et al. 2018). Self-management is a part of encouraging emotional intelligence, which can encourage effective implementation of organizational behaviour in Oracle. This can facilitate in making employees more competent, effective and develop self-assertive behaviour among the team members. This leadership based organizational behaviour can facilitate in attaining long-term goal as a part of attainment of long-term strategic goals in Oracle.

Moreover, increasing commitment through implementation of leadership theory can facilitate in increasing degree of commitment and self-importance within a group. To ensure the same the company must develop a strategy in which the roles and responsibilities will be segregated within a group in which each individual will be responsible for each task that can address the issue of practicing individualistic behaviours within the company. Implementation of McClelland’s theory of motivation can serve as an effective organizational behaviour theory which can facilitate better team work culture in Oracle through generatingsense of achievement, power and affiliation among them (Goudarzvand Chegini et al. 2018). To attain excellence in attaining long term sustainability objectives, Oracle Company must focus on developing activities based on the suitability of jobs with individual personalities. This can further ensure better acceptance of responsibilities, sense of achievement and attaining control over people through recognition for attaining organizational goals in the long term.

Conclusion:

After evaluating various aspects of organizational behaviour and its importance it can be concluded that organizational behaviour is highly important in order to maintain organizational image and reputation. While being associated with a business process, the employees have to follow a proper organizational values, beliefs and disciplines in order to maintain floor etiquette. Headquartered in Australia this particular organization has expanded their supermarket chain in the market of New Zealand as well. Participative form of work believes that both employers and the employees would like to participate equally in taking company’s business decision. Agile environment allows the employees in maintaining liberal environment at the workplace. Employees can make their sitting arrangement as per their comfort zone. After being associated with such kind of flexible work culture employees can maintain their work life balance very effectively. In addition, while implementing business regulations and acts the government tends to co-operate the business experts by maintaining transparency in their business strategies and taxation policies. Oracle intends to recruit those employees who are from various geographical backgrounds and attitudes. Thus, it has also been observed that by using agile work environment the business experts have implemented rotational duty hour in order to maintain work flexibility.

In order to reach the peak of success the organization has to focus on the performance level of team rather than focusing on individual performances. However, in order to encourage the teams associated with Oracle operations, the organization has to concentrate on implementing such strategies and policies applicable for development of a team rather an individual person. Before implementing the strategy of compensation and benefit, the business leaders associated with operations of Oracle have conducted a session in order to discuss the pros and cons of these strategies and policies. The study has involved the opinion of numerous eminent scholars who has provided different point of views regarding the importance of effective culture and politics on the organizational performances and behaviour of team member. Non-verbal communication method allows the employees in sharing their views and thoughts by written communication method. Before implementing the strategy of compensation and benefit, the business leaders associated with operations of Oracle have conducted a session in order to discuss the pros and cons of these strategies and policies. In addition, the employees try to create unnecessary chaos within workplace, which ultimately hampers organizational productivity.

However, as per the opinion of this eminent scholar the business experts need to organize some effective training and development session on management skill and communication skill. Recognition policy enables the employees in taking additional burden for the customers. At the same time, proper recognition policy is very much effective in motivating the employees for maintaining additional duty hour as well. Work flexibility implies agile workspace, flexible work hour and effective communication with each other, good rapport between senior and juniors, good management policies and so on. Work flexibility plays one of the most significant roles in encouraging the participants in reaching business goals. In addition, the business authority always tries to maintain friendly work environment that allows the employees in delivering superior quality of services. People belonging to various geographical backgrounds and attitudes can feel comfortable in working under friendly environment. Employee motivation depends on the fulfillment of their needs. Highlighting the Maslow motivation theory, the behavioral influence of a person has been analyzed. According to the psychologist, these are the essential needs of individuals.  Without these, it becomes harder for a person to survive in the world. Innovative behaviour among the employees can encourage the rate of productivity. Therefore, it has become necessary for the organizations to develop motivational framework for increasing employee engagement in the workplace. On the other hand, Organizational politics is being considered as influential elements in organizational culture. It cannot be denied that a healthy organizational politics can help to encourage the employee towards involving himself or herself in different problem solving situations. Therefore, it can be said that motivation is the independent variable and organizational culture is the dependent variable. In order to integrate the members in a group, the organizational culture is very effective.

After examining the market trend from last two decades, it has been identified that the organizational culture are being influenced by the multidimensional motivation techniques. Organizational politics affects the organizational culture in both positive and negative manner. Some of the cases, the organizational politics increases anxiety and stress in the workplace. In a healthy organizational politics, the employees get the chance to show their potentiality through bringing the creativity. In this process, the creative organizational ideas are being introduced. Rewards and recognition implies the fact social recognition as well as monitory recognition. Oracle being one of the most prestigious brands in retail industry intends to prefer implementing monitory schemes rather than preferring recognition policy. They do not have to follow any particular time schedule for logging in the office. Employees are allowed to sit at their comfort zone. They do not have to follow any strict sitting arrangement while providing services. In addition, the business authority always tries to maintain friendly work environment that allows the employees in delivering superior quality of services. To encourage team performance within the company this motivation theory is deemed to be suitable as this theory can facilitate in understanding the kinds of needs people has and the condition in which they desire to exemplify such needs.

As per the theory such basic needs include psychological, safety, security, social, law and affection and esteem need of employees. Addressing such needs of the employees can motivate them in satisfying their demands those are focuses on their growth, self-actualization, and satisfying personal needs through which they can attain common organizational perspective.  People belonging to various geographical backgrounds and attitudes can feel comfortable in working under friendly environment. The organization would have to implement health and safety act effectively with the help of which employees would not have to face challenges in being associated with the organization. At the same time, proper training skill can improve the performance level of the employees. They can improve management skill and competency. Along with getting sufficient amount of money, the employees need safety and security. In this kind of situation, the organizations like Oracle needs to get effective communication in dealing with the customers properly. However, this particular study at the end of evaluating various aspects of organizational culture and behaviour has stated that employees need to maintain effective rapport with each other for maintaining healthy work environment.
