They have focused their business operation in employing deaf students in the cafe and provide all cafe services through them only; it can be order taking, serving, billing etc. Trade block cafe has remained on the increase for the previous two to three years, with extra and more customers revolving toward ethical social practice and further talent looking for providing training to these deaf students to create an influence in the world.

A coffee apparatus jeers and flatware clatters alongside plates, but large silent in Trade block cafe can be feeling. It is not a quiet, muffled kind silence; fair a tranquil afternoon silent wherever speech is narrowly heard. We should not call it a deaf cafe, instead of that we can call it a relaxed and hospitable planetary for anybody who is either hard of hearing or deaf (Broadsheet, 2018). The pantry hands, wait supervise and baristas all belongs to those classes. Auslan language is used to place any order for coffee or a range of meals at Trade block cafe. Sound at low level is allowed but if that sounds like an intimidating prospect, it should not permit. The café is provided with the facility of customer friendly app in which an IPad is placed at the corner of the counter which explains to way of ordering in different sign language (Grace, 2014). The cafe is using all modern tablets which provide ease in the services for providing menus.

Trade Block Cafe Operation

Objective:  Everyone is aware of that in this world of speaking and hearing, the deaf people also want to contribute in communication. Hence, to fulfill this wish this café is turning tables towards their side.

Tradeblock cafe is in the business of training 11 and 12 students which are attending the Victorian college for the Deaf and they also train the adults with same kind of problem related to the community members in various hospitals. The one of the main important element of this café is Amanda Joyce who is the founder of this cafe. Amanda Joyce is also serving as the teacher at the same school. Amanda Joyce got its inspiration to open this kind of café when having dinner at a restaurant which was operated by deaf family (Melbourne VIC, 2018). During first meeting she was very confused about how to engage them in conversation knowing that they all are deaf. But to her surprise the sign language they used were so simple and understandable that she didn`t felt any problem.

The school came to know that their students were not ready for work after having graduation to explore the word of professionalism. To remove their fear the school converted one of workroom in to this café and started cafe business. Now the problem was how to make friendly business operation with the customers and then (Johnston, 2013). This dynamic lady came with the idea of creating an app which will utilize the Auslin language as the mode of communication for their business. As it is known that there is lack of work opportunities for deaf people in Melbourne. Joyce is known as the role model in this segment of business and she constantly encourages staff at the other cafes to explore the world the full energy and always welcome the deaf person during their hiring in any company (Ferrara and Johnston, 2014). The Australian government has also appreciated this kind of effort towards this section of the community and is providing their support in the form of funding and promotions for the people with special needs.

Few days ago our group was enjoying our short trip in Melbourne, Australia. While roaming there we came to know about a cafe Known as Trade block cafe which is located 597 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne VIC 3004, Australia. We came to know that this cafe is one of the silent cafes in the Melbourne. While listening to this we first thought that may be because this cafe was not able to market itself in this business world and now they are facing customer’s crisis. So we left the conversation there and continued enjoying out trip. Again we heard about this cafe again and all of our group members started thinking that if this café is not so famous why people are taking about this (Rani and Marzuki, 2017). Soon we got one of the most important hit of our visit and found that this cafe is known as silent cafe not because of customer’s crisis but because of the operation which is carried in this cafe by the students of Victorian College for the Deaf (VCD, 2018). The operation is that all the conversation which happens in this cafe is all base on sign languages because this cafe is in the business of providing all deaf students a place to work and earn their livings. To know more about this cafe our group visited this café and tried to better understand this café in all aspects. After visiting this cafe we came to know this café is being supported by RedBulls and are having very strong customer base and a much respected image in the eyes of society. This cafe is controlled by deaf students has invented a unique method of attaining their message all over the world. We found that this cafe has application which assists the customers how to use sign language in case of ordering or any conversations and this signs are known as Auslan which means a language that helps deaf to express his/her feelings (Johnston, 2013).

This app is made very user-friendly so that the customer will not get frustrated during learning these symbols. The inspiration for starting this cafe was from a service provider family in which all members of the family were deaf. Being deaf members of this family were very energetic and very functional. Observing all this we decided to go deeper in this business operation and tried to find out the impact of this cafe on the life of their entire employee, customers, society and all the communities which are associated with this cafe in the form of stakeholders (Abney et. al., 2017). As we proceed further we tried to find out the reason from the customers who were availing their services. Our group tried to engage some customer in conversation on the base of promise that their identity and their contacts will only be used for academic purposes. One of our group members engage with one of the customer named Danial Smith and Mery smith, who are coming in this cafe from almost two years. The couple told us that there is some emotional attachment with the cafe as there are working on converting weakness of some person in to his unique strength (Friedner, 2013). The main reason which has made them associate with this cafe is the service which they provide to their customers. They told us that current world believes that only language conversation is one of the strongest point in all mankind but his café has changed their this perception because by using only sign language this café is able to provide such a wonderful service that sometimes you forget that were are being served by deaf staff. Their services are actually giving very strong competition to other cafes present there. It sometime seems that they are following six sigma patterns for their service. Another customer George, Peter and Julia who are students of La Trobe University told us that they are customers of this café from almost five months and the main reason for getting associated with this café is to gain overall experience related to this kind of issue. As they believe that this kind of problem can happen with any one and at any place. So gaining this kind of experience in which they are spending good amount of time in understanding these people will help them in maintaining same kind of environment around their surrounds and create such kind of atmosphere in which these people feel that they are also part of this beautiful world and there are numerous people present in this world to provide full support to these section of the community (Suneetha, 2015). During our research we came across to meet one of the wonderful people present in the world. They call them Bandidos motorcycle bikers group and we found their viewpoint very different from all the customers present their and we also got very emotional during conversation with this group. The reason which this group presented in front of us about association with this café from almost three years is neither their excellent service nor emotions. As they all were in their 55-64 year of age, also their thinking is for different from others due to their life experience. They believe that having emotional attachment is good even showing empathy for some person is also consider as one of the generous move by mankind (Steep, 2011). But they believe that at some point of time this empathy and showing too much care sometimes make these people feel that they are not part of community and in some cases they feel that they represent weaker section of the community and have no right to sustain in this world. These acts will make them feel that they are dark side of this beautiful world. Hence, their reason to become customer of this café is that they want these people that there is no difference between them and us. We all express same thinking, same feeling and almost same kind of postures to express our emotions. We see them in the same way in they see us. This was one of the hearts touching movement for all of us and we believe same kind of thinking may have spread their demand in whole Melbourne.

Overall it can be said that social enterprise has reached that kind of height in today’s time which is beyond imagination. It has actually shifted the trend of doing business because in present time people are becoming more aware about their society needs and products of the company. People today see social enterprise as the only mode of doing business. Following this footstep stakeholder and shareholder also want to get associated with that company whose operations are doing something better for the community. It simple indicates that future scope of social enterprise will be great as compared to traditional business.
