Networking Events Report

This report’s aim is to represent the Networking event report. It ensures to provide an overview of the subject matter. A case study is considered where, based on the Engineering field, two professionally organized networking events must be attended. These events might be hosted via CPA, CA, EA or ACS. The requirement of the case includes to introduce the researcher to two people who are currently working in or associated with the researcher’s field of expertise. Further, each of these individuals must be asked for their business card along with an advice for getting started in the industry. Here, the two professionally organized networking events are, conferences and public meetings. 

The objective of this report is to list and describe the strategies to establish and maintain business relationships. This will help to identify relevant networks, organizations, agencies, associations or individuals. It will help to know the principles and techniques required for building business networks/ contacts. The business documentation rules will be discussed. 

The following are the events:

  • Conferences:

It is referred as a meeting, which most of the time last for some days. The conferences are organized based on a specific subject and the people interested in the subject attends it. Here, formal discussions take place. It mainly considers the dinner or coffee breaks best for introducing each other.

  • Exhibitions

It is an event where many business people who are interested in the event come.

  • Seminars

The seminars are events which attract various business people. Even in this event, the coffee breaks are utilized for introductions with people, to know each other.

  • Training courses

This type of events help to meet knowledgeable business people. Moreover, the informal networking is much helpful, as it helps them to collaborate with their working team, to bring best results.

  • Breakfast networking clubs

This type of events help to establish connection with the local business community, as the conducted breakfast networking clubs. The companies run such events on a regular basis, to gain opportunity of engaging with new business people.

  • Business networking websites

The online business networking is increasing drastically, which are adopted by various organizations throughout the world. The intension of such networking results in trading business in various geographical areas, from different location easily. The web provides such easy access.

  • Website forums

The Website forums refers to a website which allows various visitors to communicate with people of diverse culture, with the help of their posts. This type of forums are a place to share an individual's idea with a group of people. It offers networking opportunity.

  • Community social websites

There are various community social websites like, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, Pinterest and so on. The best example refers to Facebook.  This social website helps to have business benefits, as it widely reaches to a large number of audiences. Moreover, the business out there can also find it challenging to spread their business. It increases competitive advantage of the businesses.

  • Online/mobile communications applications

The best example of online or the mobile communication application is, Twitter. Internet platforms like these can grow from nothing to be hugely popular social connection systems in just a few months. Business people can use them to good effect if approached in a very dedicated and technically informed way. Otherwise they can become big time-wasters, so beware.

  • Societies and associations

Strategies for Establishing and Maintaining Business Relationships

Every specialist subject has its own society or association. These organizations offer various ways to meet their members.

  • Institutes for industries

Every industry has its own institute or similar. Various events and methods generally exist by which outsiders can engage with the institute's membership.

  • Public meetings

This type of events are beneficial in various ways, for the presentation and development of local plans and their development. The break times are used for introducing each other and developing contacts.  

The event named, Presentation skills and public Speaking workshop, was held on Thursday October 18, 2018 at 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The venue was Level 31, 600 Bourke Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3000, Australia. 

The introductory pitch included greetings followed by a warm smile and hand shake. Then, I introduced myself and my business. I researched about the opposite person and based on it, I praised the opposite person based on his/ her  work, to grasp his/her attention and started developing conversation about their business like, what its scope are and how it can be started and so on. Then, I listened to the opposite person with a lot of interest and attention. Throughout the talk I was genuine and did not fake anything about myself.    

I was formal, polite, friendly, and showed genuine interest in the opposite person’s business and also had curiosity to know the opposite person.

Example for Business standards that I followed are, formal introduction and showing interest in the business.

One example for ethical standard that I followed is, good behaviour (respecting the opposite person) (University, 2015).

One example for Social standards that I followed is, friendly behaviour.

One example for Cultural standards that I followed is, I showed interest in new business culture (Molinsky, 2012). 

I ensured to gather some information of the people that I was supposed to meet i.e., I collected some information about their works and achievements. I also introduced my organization and its effective works. This trick helped them to feel comfortable, apart from my politeness, confidence and friendly behaviour. However, I ensured to have formal conversation. 

Example for verbal: Hello, I am XYZ and I have heard about you and your work, it’s really fascinating. I’m interested to know more about you and your business.

Example for Nonverbal: Smile and curiosity in my eyes. 

I got the person’s visiting card. The person I met was impressed by my approach, where I praised her work. She provided important details of how to start in the industry and some of the details are, to have business strategy, do market research, build connection with specific business people, then have skilled team members, effective plan and field experts.    

The most valuable lesson that I learnt is, to conduct market research about the business to be started and have an effective business strategic plan. However, without the business networks, things become complicated. So I believe, networking with other business people is essential for the business (Duct Tape Marketing, 2018). As, it helps to collaborate different ideas and experiences of other people.    

I always believe that, it is always a smart move or idea to inquire about the area that you are investing on and venturing into. And for gathering business inquiry, the best option is market research of the business, as this will help to take appropriate decision, whether to start the business or not. 

As mentioned earlier that I believe networking with other business people is essential for the business, because it helps to collaborate different ideas and experiences of other people.  If I get another networking opportunity I would never wish to miss it, as it has immerse benefits.

The following are the list of actions that I will remember for sure (Misner, 2006):

  • Being polite, because it helps the opposite person to listen to you.
  • Being true, because it ensure to build trust and promotes the company/individual for work collaboration.   
  • Being smart and confident, because it makes the opposite person to extend their conversation with you.
  • Build more number of contacts in the event, because it will help to expand the business.  
  • Grasp knowledge on business standards, business and social ethics, because it these standards help the business.
  • Being authentic.
  • Being friendly, because it makes the other person comfortable to talk with you (Cowan, 2012).
  • Being curious about the opposite person and their business. 

Based on my experience, the following are the key steps that I wish to advice my team about networking skills (Forbes.com, 2018):

  • Work on building your first impression on the opposite person.
  • Properly introduce yourself, by letting them know about you and your business.
  • Listen to the opposite person with a lot of interest and attention.
  • Show curiosity to know the opposite person.
  • Be friendly.
  • Leave positive impression on the opposite person.
  • Be authentic.
  • Be genuine to be interested in the opposite person’s business, as it helps to gain business opportunities.  

The organizations use the Style guide for the following purposes (Forbes.com, 2018):

  • It helps to establish the brand’s identity.
  • It defines the brand name.
  • It helps to communicate a steady message to the audience.  

To enhance the readability of the document, the formatting technique must include the following:

  1. Using consistent format along with fonts and styles.
  2. For body text, using the font size as 10 or 12.
  3. Using 1.5 spacing.
  4. One line between the paragraphs.
  5. Justifying the text.
  6. Using font style for the headings.
  7. Use section headings.
  8. Your name and date in footer.
  9. Add page number in footer.
  10. Correct referencing. 

While designing and planning a new business document I will follow the below mentioned details (Leoisaac.com, 2018):

  1. The title of the report is added to the header.
  2. Page numbers are added to the footer.
  3. The purpose of the document is define clearly.
  4. The document is readable and understood by all types of audience.
  5. It should provide the details of the business design and plan.
  6. The purpose is met at the end.
  7. The language used is clear.
  8. The previous design and plan of the business will be collected to improve the new document.
  9. The drawbacks of the previous document will be identified and the same will be resolved in the new one.
  10. More research on the work will be carried out.
  11. The grammatical errors will be checked and removed.
  12. All the spellings will be ensured to be right.
  13. Well formatted cover page for the document.
  14. Avoid plagiarism.
  15. Avoid confusing terms.
  16. Utilize the spell checker. 

The rules of English to be applied while writing the business documents include the following (Leoisaac.com, 2018):

  • Correct structure of the sentences.
  • Correct grammar.
  • Correct spelling.
  • Correct punctuations.
  • Correct tenses. 

Conclusion 

The Network events report is represented. It is observed that, the good interpersonal skills are necessary for networking. It has provided an overview of the subject matter. The case study is related to the Engineering field, where two professionally organized networking events are attended, which are hosted via CPA, CA, EA or ACS. The researcher introduces two people who are currently working in an associated field of expertise. Later, each individual are asked to give their business card along with an advice for getting started in the industry. The two professionally organized networking events include, conferences and public meetings. The business documentation rules are discussed. 

Hence, wider the network is, the better it is for the business. Henceforth, it is necessary to keep the network alive.
