State how you Could Use your Learning Power Strengths to Improve your Learning Performance

Discuss about the Professional Identity for Mindfully Aware.

Learning power is the technique in which we control the flow of information and influence we come across as we seek to attain a particular function (Senge 2014). It is sometimes hard to notice when we are learning when we are actually doing it. Learning power assists us to become ‘mindfully aware’ of our intention and individuality and to ‘mindfully’ choose, identify and re-structure information so as to accomplish something that matters. That matter we can be more ready, flexible and lively in learning and adjust throughout our own and qualified lives. Learning power is important since an individual can control how information flows in order to achieve a particular goal in life. According to (Cohen 2014) the elements of learning power are groups of values, attitudes and dispositions rather than competence or skills. They are the following; personal qualities essential for learning. It is the way an individual carry herself when learning for example the concentration that is needed for a person to understand what is being taught. Enabling attentiveness performance and understanding is the second skill. While learning, one should enable attentiveness so as to understand and improve on the performance. The third skill is embodying feelings, thoughts and action. Actions and thoughts that are needed for individuals to continue learning in effectively. The forth skill is deeper and additional holistic than learning preferences or styles.

A study by Billings and Halstead (2015), it is true that some dimensions may be powerful or much recognizable to us than others, they are entirely to be established in every one of us and, with the correct kind of coaching and learning, and they can all be enhanced. I could use my learning power strengths to improve my learning performance by; Mindful Agency: being conscious of my feelings, thoughts and actions as a learner and to be able to utilize that consciousness to take accountability, to arrange and handle learning processes (Benson & Voller 2014).  For example, taking into consideration of my actions so as to be responsibility of what I’m doing in order to learn in the right way. Optimism and hope: an intellect of myself as somebody who learns and alters over time (Keating 2014). It is the opposite of being static. So as to improve the performance in learning, an individual should allow changes to occur. For example, learning new information involves adjusting the mind in a way it can acquire and accommodate the new information. If we were to keep our mind in a situation where we can’t accommodate, then it means that we can never learn new ideas in our life time. So as to improve the performance, then we should be dynamic not static to changes that may occur in learning processes. Optimism and hope help us to be positive that the new information gained will stick to us mind without losing it easily.

List the Strategies that you have Chosen that will Enable, Maximize or Strengthen your Learning and the Reasons why you Chose them

Curiosity also helps in improving performance: it is the wish to know for example, ‘why things happen the way they do’ by being curious in learning, one learns a lot of information at the end of the day. For example, when you read about a certain chemical in the laboratory, it is important to understand why that chemical works to way it does. It is boost your understanding about the chemical and even learn more about it. Collaborating with others while learning also improves once performance: when learning with others, one gains some knowledge that one didn’t know previously. It is important not to be over-dependent in learning since one cannot know everything in learning. When studying with others especially in a discussion group, other individual might mention something that one was not aware of and one end up learning and gaining something new at the end of discussion. Belonging: knowing that there is somewhere I can turn to since I belong to a certain community. For example, having group of people that I engage with like a discussion group.

The strategies that will enable strengthen my learning are, collaboration: engaging with others like learning as a group in discussing something. For example, involving myself in a discussion group so as to learn new ideas from others. The reason why collaboration is important is because people in a discussion group have different ideas concerning a particular agenda (Bradshaw and Lowenstein 2013). For example in the laboratory, the lecturer encourages students to be in groups so as to work together and assist each other in areas where one may be feeling weak in class work. The other strategy is taking mindful agency: taking responsibility in performing a certain task, for example, when performing an experiment in the lab, it is important one to do it by own. It is because when one does something, it is difficult to forget once one has trained. Belonging in a certain community also helps in identifying an individual. For example, it is necessary to engage with a certain group of people like a certain discussion group. People who knows one’s weakness when it comes to learning as a group. The reason is because individuals strengthen each other and those who are weak in the learning end up boosting their grades.

Reflect on your strategies and critically discuss insights or changes that you have made/will make to the way you go about your learning performance

Reflect on your strategies and critically discuss insights or changes that you have made/will make to the way you go about your learning performance

Looking at the strategies above, as an individual I will try to collaborate with others like engaging in more discussion groups so as to improve my learning performance. Major problem comes in when one becomes over confident in learning and it leads to failure. It is good to discuss with others so as to learn new ideas. I know I am poor with discussions and belonging to a certain group of people but I can try. The strategy that have already used is taking responsibility. For example when performing an experiment in the lab with my classmates, I like trying to do the experiment since it boosts my memory and it is difficult for me to forget. The bad thing about performing the experiment is that other students think that I am selfish and I know want them to try but at the end of it, is for my own good. It ends up creating enmity with my classmates. Taking responsibility involves taking risk too and it is a strategy that I may use again to improve my learning power.

Conclusion

It is important to look at the strategies mentioned above and I would advice any student trying to improve their learning power to consider these strategies. Taking responsibility, being curious to know why things are the way they are, collaborating with others and belonging to a certain group of people may be of much help. When learning with others, one gains some knowledge that one didn’t know previously. It is essential not to be over-dependent in learning since one cannot know everything in learning. When studying with others especially in a discussion group, other individual might talk about something that one was not sentient of and one end up learning and gaining something innovative the end of discussion.
