Health is the foundation of living. Also, health is most important in establishing strong foundations for the future as well as for wellbeing. Many Australians are more focusing on the health of individuals. In today’s scenario, there is the risk of various diseases, such as the pressure on the mental health of young people, as young people are more likely to be affected by the educational outcomes. The race of being successful in life and also while the children are growing there are various transition and changes on the physical and mental health of the young people. The lifestyle, full-time work-life schedule, healthy routine, and certain challenging routines such as eating junk food and developing stress will directly affect the life of the individuals. Also, in the national study that has been conducted based on the young Australian perspective, it has been stated that young people’s health has been determined that it is the second most important domain. As to lead the good life in future. Here in this assignment, the author would deal with the explanation of two concepts that relate to wellbeing (AIHW Australian Government, 2020). Also, the author will draw concepts that have been discussed in the module, discussion of the main issues relating to the wellbeing of your selected group/setting, discussion of relevant strategies/initiatives that seek to enhance the wellbeing of your selected group/setting. The author would identify strategies/initiatives that seek to address the wellbeing issues that you have already discussed in the report. The strategies/initiatives you discuss can be international, national and/or local, and conclusion.

Wellbeing can be explained as the experience of the health of the individual, happiness, and prosperity where the most important aspect is the mental health of the individual and the high-level satisfaction of the life along with the ability to deal with the stressful situation. The presence of positive thoughts or opinions will help in remaining happy and content. This will also keep a bay from negative thoughts such as depression and anxiety. Basically, the health and wellbeing of the individual are directly affected by the physical, social, Intellectual and Emotional Factors (Allen and Oyebode, 2009). The best ways to measure and apply the concepts of wellbeing are through awareing the citizens to experience the quality of life and also to adapt to the positive changes. The main causes of these gains are many, including public health, improved nutrition, drinking water and sanitation. There is also the contribution of the pharmacological treatment of chronic diseases, surgical tests, vaccinations and immunizations for improving the health of the individuals. In the 20th century, due to the worldwide pandemic of covid19, most of the people around the globe were affected badly. In addition to it, the lockdown was imposed by the government due to which all the people (including the young people) have to stay in their home for a long period of time which affect drastically on the mental health of the young people. The impact was also on the mental health of the children as everything was shut and every work was from home.

Theoretical Perspectives on Wellbeing

From the view of hedonic, the focus is on happiness can be seen as the totality of pleasurable. With this, the philosophers also stated that wellbeing is related to man’s appetites according to Hobbes and according to DeSade stated that wellbeing is directly connected with sensation and pleasure. This view of wellbeing is related to Maslow’s concept (1970) concept of self-actualization and Deci and Rayan’s self-determination theory. Where it has been stated that individuals need to focus on the quality of life of individuals and on the impact on the living conditions of the people. Also, another theory of Seligman’s PERMA theory of wellbeing is an attempt to answer these fundamental. Here in this theory, there are five building blocks that help in enabling flourishing, which are engagement, relationships, accomplishment, positive emotions (BURNS, PATTON and BUTlER, n.d.). These are essential for living a healthy and positive life that is free from diseases and makes the person healthy. Increasing the positive emotions such as gratitude, pleasure, and forgiveness will help in developing the positive emotions and building hope and optimism within people. Engaging in developing skills, strengths, and attention for accepting and performing challenging tasks. This will also help the young children in gaining the experience of work which would help them in learning and keeping themselves away from stress and tension. There are various benefits of wellbeing such as the individual will be able to perform better, the individual will live longer, have better physical health, have also reduced sleep problems and have better control on the self-control and self-regulations and coping abilities. Considering the mental health benefits that will be on the young generations would be a reduction in depression and anxiety, better performance of sports, work and school, and fewer reported cases of illness, coronary heart disease, lower mortality rate, and faster recovery from the illness and surgery (Carter and Andersen, n.d.).

The main issue that is related to the wellbeing of young people is basically mental health disorder, substance abuse which is deteriorating their health, smoking, academic problems and an increase in stress due to pressure and competition in academic fields. Young people are directly affected by the environment they are interacting with or living at the utmost risk is of mental health, sexually transmitted disease, obesity or eating disorder, alcohol or other drug abuse, etc. As the young people are goal-oriented and also involved with various things that they see for the first time as this age is very sensitive and the courage, confidence and enthusiasm to deal with any of the situations is filled in the young generation people. They suffer from various problems such as being bullied by the other fellow members working or studying with the individual as at this age the wants and desires of the people of the young generation are more (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). The pressure of studies and work life is more which can lead to depression and also the young people are indulged in wrong company due to which they develop the number of addiction. These are the various reasons which lead to the various number of diseases and decrease the wellbeing of an individual. Good health also influences young people in good learning, even if it is in terms of academics or skills. The total wellbeing of an individual is made only when from the time of the birth of the child is made to practise healthy habits, and proper guidance is being granted to the children since early childhood. Such as children’s social and emotional wellbeing of the child is a must that will play a crucial role in the development of the child’s personality. Developing the young people to be confident and always stay motivated even if the conditions are worst. The biggest issue that has been faced by the young people is that they are not being guided properly they are just running behind the glitters without understanding the difference between glitters and gold (Houlden, Plant and Moorhouse, 2020). The proper routine and stress free environment help in the internal as well as external development of the individual, but still, there are certain factors that deviate them from development and take them forward towards darkness.

Issues Affecting Young Australians' Wellbeing

The Australian government is working as well as taking responsibility to solve the problems due to which the wellbeing of the young people is not being achieved. The government would be responsible for health and medical research, regulating private health insurance, funding and providing oversight of Primary Health Networks, leading the development of national health policy, administering Medicare, funding medicines (through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme) and funding community-controlled Indigenous primary health care and some prevention programs (for example, cancer screening). This government would also fund and provide various services which are related to mental health services through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) or another scheme which is the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (RPBS). The strategies that would be followed for the young people would be following the key objectives of the COAG National Healthcare Agreement, which states that the child should be born healthy as well as remain healthy throughout their life. The priorities were to provide the children with a healthy life, and the foundation of their health should be strong. The support should be provided to the children of a young age for making them more strong and resilient when they grow as an adult. Living in a healthy and safe environment provides a learning environment for young people. Also, it is important for the guardian to ensure that the young people have adequate funds and resources for the health facilities in case of illness (Carter and Andersen, n.d.). The proper check on the health and development of young people will help in understanding the growth and development of children. Basically, there are 5 major areas where the parents or the guardian of the children needs to follow in order to maintain the health and wellbeing of the children that strengthen the workforce, improve the health equity across populations, address the chronic conditions and preventive health as well as to empower the parents and caregivers to maximize the healthy development. Along with this, the department of health also has a responsibility where they need to organize proper workshops for awareing the people regarding the importance of health and wellbeing to the people and also to focus more on reducing the abuse, violence against the young people (Allen and Oyebode, 2009). The strategies that young people need to follow for promoting wellbeing is that they need to connect with their surroundings and the people around them. This would help in boosting the energy of the individual along with refreshing the mood by performing the favourite activity. They keep staying active all day to learn new every day. This will also help in boosting confidence. Following the proper routine will help in maintaining the balance between a healthy lifestyle and mental health. Eating at the gap of every 3 to 4 hours will help in promoting the physical health of the individual, and physical health is directly linked with mental health (Marks and Fleming, 1999). Always stay motivated and think positive in relation to every aspect of life this will help in releasing endorphins which will help in keeping the mind and mood of an individual fresh and happy.

At last, it can be concluded that wellbeing can be defined as happiness, health and prosperity. This also includes the balance between mental health and physical health. The ability of an individual to manage the stress and not let the stress overcome with negative effects on health. Physical wellbeing is the state where the individual will help in managing the routine and exercise for staying healthy. The key role in understanding the overall wellbeing of an individual is when the social circle of the individual in non-toxic will help in overall development and wellbeing as mental health of an individual is more important as this deteriorate the health of the individual faster. There are various issues which are being faced by the are anxiety, depression, academic pressure, which is somewhere affecting the wellbeing and health of the individual. Physical wellbeing, emotional wellbeing and social wellbeing are important in considering the overall health and wellbeing of an individual.
