Research Question

The public transportation is helpful to the public because it helps in the contribution of an environment that is healthier, liable and comfortable to live in. The public transit ridership takes into account to reduce the oil consumptions like the private transit systems because they make use of the land use policies in the better way. This system of transportation also helps in expanding the developmental phase of the transportation business as well as caters to the huge opportunities for the employment aspects. Additionally, the use of the public transit ridership uses much less taxation over the environment as compared to the other forms of the transportation systems, as per the claims and opinions of Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016). This is because a great many numbers of people get to ride on the transportation system, the consumption of the carbon per head is must lower when compared to the other forms of vehicles.

The role of the government to improve, encourage as well as increase the public transit ridership is significantly crucial in a country which is going to be discussed in the report by analysing and evaluating various sources. The government intervention is required in order to improve the infrastructure of the public transit ridership and provide enough funding and enforce the better legislation to encourage the public transit ridership by making it look reliable for the public to avail this form of transportation.

How Public Transit Ridership can be globally improved, encouraged and increased by the government?

To find out how Public Transit Ridership can be globally improved, encouraged and increased by the government.

The rapid form of urbanization as well as with the growth in the aspect of the prosperity of the economic standard of the world has attracted the higher rate of the motorization in the world. Along with the huge growth in the public transit ridership, there have been instances in the growth of the concerns related to the negative impacts of the automobile industries as well, as per the claims and opinions of Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016). This has been a concern due to the increased use of the same, the congestion on the roads on the personal mobility of the cars, and the huge impact on the quality of the air, pollution, road safety and the change in the climate as the cause of the pollution and the global warming. Therefore, the role of the government is significantly crucial in the improvement of the public transit ridership. As per Diab et al., (2020), the quality of the public transit ridership can be improved manifold with the increase in the number of the investigation of the agencies to look out for the problems in the technical perspectives and with the reduction of the associated costs in the making charges. Therefore, it is suggested by Diab et al., (2020) that the improved quality of the technical support to be provided to the public transit ridership so that less fuel is consumed which will have a direct impact in the improvement of the environment and climate as well. On the other hand, as per the claims and opinions of Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016), the improvement in the public transit ridership will be helpful in the reduction cost in purchasing the automobile oil, gas and the carbon consumption including the taxes as initiated by the government. They emphasized that as the number of head or person will be reduced in the public transit ridership as compared to the private transportation system on the road as per the claims and opinions of Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016).

Research Objective

According to the claims and opinion of Hasibuan et al., (2014), with the introduction of the various developmental phases of the public transportation system, the importance of this domain is increasing with keeping in the mind the environmental hazards the automobile industry brings along with its thousands of advantages. Hasibuan et al., (2014) also claimed that with the increase in the urban sustainability demands, the government must put forward the spatial structure strategy such as the infrastructure policies of the transportation system in order to achieve the reliable sustainability with the integrated use of the land and judicious use of the environment friendly fuel in the public transit ridership. On the other hand, according to Cullinane, (2002), the government of the country, Indonesia, had taken a big step towards the improvement of the public transit ridership. With the improvement and increase in the length of the infrastructure of the road nearly up to thirty thousand kilometres, the government of the country had decided to reduce the greenhouse gas omission by 30 per cent which will be aided by the public transit ridership, as per the claims and opinions of Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016).

The government of the countries must support as well as encourage the use of the public transits so that the government can sustain for a better future of the economic benefits of the country. The support of the government in the usage of the public transportation will also be helpful in lessening the inequality from the pressure of the ownership of the private cars on the road. Also, there is one inequality in the status factor attached to it. When the government of the countries supports as well as increases its encouragement in the use of the public transportation system, the poor class of people who do not have the affordability to buy private cars to travel to the required places can avail to the public transport in that case, as per the claims and opinions of Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016). However, as per Taylor and Fink, (2003), in order to encourage the public transit ridership, the government of the countries needs to have set the price of the fare in the lower levels so that common people can have the accessibility to the use of the public transits. As per the Taylor and Fink, (2003), the increase in the percentage of the row houses, the increase in the business dwellers around the city as well as the working class people since the time of the industrialization in the starting of the decade had been increasing and encouraging the use of the public transit ridership around the world at the expense of using the transits. As per the opinion of Taylor and Fink, (2003), the people belonging from the working class hierarchy commute with the help of the bike-sharing system around the cities with the help of the automated fare collection in the system introduced by the government.

Discussion

According to the opinion of Ibrahim, (2003), the increased perspectives of the employment perspectives in the cities had forced the government to encourage the use of the public transit ridership with the fair and sustained motive of the positive effect of the travel by the common people. This has helped in the rise in the factor of the economy with the rise in employment of the workers and also the increased use of the public transit ridership had an everlasting effect in the economic aspects of the government with the increased in the revenue by the usage of the same. On the other hand, the opinion and claims made by Ribbonaar and Van den Berg, (2008) strikingly coincides with the opinion of the experts stated above. As per their opinion, the government encouraged the use of the public transit ridership such as bus, train, taxis and bike shares because of the rate of the gas prices and oil prices in the recent times. Thus, to aim for a sustainable growth in the economic perspective, the government encouraged the use of the public transportation system with the improvement in the automobile efficiency in the fuel which helped in the reduction of the gas and oil usage and the omission of the carbon related harmful gases.

The increased investment and significant efforts shown by the government in the sector of the public transit ridership in the cities in terms of the federal, local as well as state level transportation, the ridership of the public transits systems have proved to be of great benefits to the system of the economy of the countries. Although there had been a sharp decline in the usage of the public transits systems due to the increased in the purchase of the private cars by the rich section of the society by around 10 per cent, the government had implicated certain transportation related policies to ensure the omission of the loopholes in the future changes in the public transit ridership in the cities. According to the claims and opinions of the Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016), the role of the government in order to initiate the increase in the use of the public transit ridership had been significantly supported by the federal government with the help of the supply of the distribution of the general fund for the use in the capital as well as the expenses in the operating system. As emphasised by Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016), these support systems had been initiated by the federal government with the provisions for making it possible to provide the grants for the major projects related to the huge capital. These projects are related to the increased use of the public transit ridership with the help of the government.

Role of Government in Improving Public Transit Ridership

According to the claims and opinions of Cullinane, (2002) and Hasibuan et al., (2014), the role of the government is significant in the increased use of the public transit ridership. The government had involved itself with the provision of the public transportation system mainly in two ways. For the improvement and the initiation of the increased use of the public transit ridership, the government had resorted to the provision of the 18 per cent capital on average in order to operate the funds for the use of the developmental features in the public transit ridership. Secondly, various capital investment programmes initiated by the government had played a significant part in order to build the new discovery of the transits of the ridership for the public. On the other hand, as per the opinion and the claims made by Weisbrod, Mulley and Hensher, (2016), which coincides with the opinion of Cullinane, (2002) and Hasibuan et al., (2014), the role of the government in building the new form of transit of the rail as well as the bus related to the public transit system of the ridership, the funding of the capital had expanded the existing system of the public transit ridership in order to increase the use of the same to help in the economy of the country. Additionally, it has been proved that with the increase in the fare of the automobile industries, the dependency of people on the public transit ridership had increased every time.

Conclusion

The rapid form of urbanization as well as with the growth in the aspect of the prosperity of the economic standard of the world has attracted the higher rate of the motorization in the world. Along with the huge growth in the public transit ridership, there have been instances in the growth of the concerns related to the negative impacts of the automobile industries as well. This has been a concern due to the increased use of the same, the congestion on the roads on the personal mobility of the cars, and the huge impact on the quality of the air, pollution, road safety and the change in the climate as the cause of the pollution and the global warming.

The role of the government to improve, encourage as well as increase the public transit ridership is significantly crucial in a country has been discussed in the report by analysing and evaluating various sources. The government intervention has been proved to be required in order to improve the infrastructure of the public transit ridership and provide enough funding and enforce the better legislation to encourage the public transit ridership by making it look reliable for the public to avail this form of transportation.
