Working And Functionality Of Part A And Part B Using DBMS And Decision Support System Essay.

Database Management System (DBMS)

The report is showing the working and functionality of Part A and Part B. The complete database implementation of the business of Dr. John Smith is done in Part A. The database is built in the Database Management System (DBMS) – MS Access. The report is showing all important features and functionality built in MS Access database and the Decision Support System is used in part B. The Decision Support System is built to complete the working, and functionality of the business of Dr. John Smith. All the big and complicated calculations are solved in the Decision Support System and the report is summarising all the important features that have been implemented in the Decision Support System.

The Database Management System (DBMS) is a database tool that works to maintain the large data efficiently and remove redundancy. It is the new concept that has replaced the old trend of files. Now the data can be easily fetched and maintained in the Database Management System without any loss of important data. 

The relational database is the database which is based upon the mechanism of tables, rows and columns. It stores the data in row column form and provides very clear view of the data. The user can easily search and fetch the required information. 

The Database Management System (DBMS) is the most suitable database management system now a day. It removes the data redundancy from the database as well as it maintains the data integrity too. It provides the database backup recovery techniques also. The user can take back up of the important data and can recover the data in case of any loss of data. 

The relational database is the most suitable database to manage the large data. It holds the data in tabular form and provides the tolls and commands to create database queries, forms etc. the queries are very useful feature of relational database. It shows the data from more than one table at one place by connecting different tables. 

The database queries are the important feature of Database Management System (DBMS). The query complies at one time and the user can sue the query many times without compiling it again. It decrease the fetching time and increase the speed of the database also. 

Three queries are implemented in the database as follows- 

The first query is used to show late dispatch orders of customers who live in Victoria or in South Australia. 

Relational Database

The second query is used to increase the NZ cost price by 9.95 % of items that are not in stock nut the customers have ordered that. 

The third query is used to calculate the invoice of customers. The invoice is generated of customers who have ordered the ‘TARDIS’ items and who do not live in New South Wales and Victoria. The third query is the invoice query and it is being used to generate the invoice report also. 

The report is the invoice report that is using the invoice query to show the invoices of customers. It is very useful and helps the managers to check the invoices of customers. It is the best way to summarize the large data in a very short time and efficient way.

The Decision Support System (DSS) is a very important and good way to represent large data and to do big calculations. It provides lots of ways to make conditional functions, forms, macros etc. 

Programming and non-programming, both types of Decision Support Systems are there. Currently the Programming Decision Support System is used in the business of Dr. John Smith. 

The Decision Support Systems is most useful and suitable for the large and small business. It provides lots of built-in functions also to make the easy and user friendly environment. The cost is also very less of Decision Support Systems like MS Excel. Every organization can buy this product and can reduce their man power and can decrease their error ratio also. 

It gives best results in large calculation that is the big achievement of Decision Support Systems. It is the best part that attracts the users towards it. 

The Decision Support Systems is very reliable also. The calculated result is so correct that anyone can trust on it. If the formula is correct, there is no chance to get wrong results. The user can do any type of calculation like the calculation using the IF, sum, count function etc. 

The Decision Support Systems is very supportive also. It supports almost all the platforms like every version of windows. It is the best part and every firm can sue this without any tension of operating system. If the user wants to change its operating system at later stage, he does not need to worry about the Decision Support System like MS Excel as it works on all operating systems. 

As per the security concern, the Decision Support Systems is very secure. There is less chance to loss the data. The user should take the backup on regular basis to escape from unnecessary loss of data. 

Queries in DBMS

By considering all the above factors, the Decision Support Systems is very useful and suitable for all types of businesses. 

The mark-up is the key point that calculates the selling price of products. Two types of mark-ups are being used in Dr. John Smith’s project- Store and Supplier. The store mark-up will work very well in Dr. John Smith’s as the database is very big and required long and complicated calculations. 

It affects the selling price that is why; the mark-up type should be chosen perfectly. It directly affects the business as selling price directly affects the business profit.

Impact of Mark-up Type on Customer’s Decision 

The mark-up affects the selling price and selling price is the key that affects the customer’s decision to buy any product. If the selling price is less, the customer will be attracted towards the products. That is why; the mark-up directly affects the customer’s decisions. 

The discount directly affects the business profit, because it decreases the selling price and it is the best point to hike the sale and business profit. The discount helps in most of the situations when the products didn’t sold out for a long time. 

It is the best choice to increase the sale by giving discount on some products but it is very technical and important point which should be implemented very carefully. It increases the business profit but the discount should be given only those orders which are not sold for a long time and have some defect.  If products are not good and have some defects, then that can be sold on discount, then it is very beneficial for the business 

The freight type directly affects the business profit because the freight charges is generally very high and impacts the business in a great manner. The Lethbridge-Stewart Transport is the most recommended freight. It is low budget and reliable fright that works best now a day. It offers so many new useful schemes that help in saving the amount in transport etc. It is the best freight to be used in Dr. John Smith’s business. 

 The Ireland is the best suited country for the Dr. John Smith’s business as it has good relations with other countries. The Ireland has good reputation in the import export market and it will be good for our business if we connect with the Ireland. 

There are so many factors that should be considered while choosing the import country e.g.- 

• Shipping charges
• Personnel Relationship
• Market reputation
• Product costs
• Freight charges 

All the above factors are very important and necessary to keep in mind while choosing the import country. 

Conclusion 

The Database Management System and the Decision Support System both are used in the assignment. Both have different features and functionality. Both are the best tools to store the data. Part A is having the implementation of Database Management System while Part B is having the implementation of Decision Support System. 

The report is describing all features of Database Management System and Decision Support System. The Database Management System is best in making queries, reports etc. while the Decision Support System is best in solving big calculations. Both are necessary in each type of business that is why; all the important features have been used in the assignment and mentioned in the report also. The report is giving bried overview of discount, freight types etc. After studying the report, every user can easily understand the concept of Database Management System and Decision Support System.
