Analysis of Significant Life Events
You have been asked to prepare information materials/booklet to introduce the new carers to the concept of significant life events and how these impact on individuals and their social networks in your own area of practice.
The booklet will be done in parts and will be creative alongside evaluative, informative, and include illustrations. You will have multiple opportunities to gain the merit and distinction criteria throughout work.
You should think about the reader and how to make the reading as simple but informative as possible. The theme of the case study should run throughout the assignment as a reference point for significant Life.
This may take any form that you wish including posters, leaflets or a slide presentation (slides must have accompanying notes/narrative), however the training materials must clearly:
- Explainthe impact of the significant life event on the individual (1.1)
Your training materials must also contain an analysis of the following:
- The possible group responsesto the significant life event that has occurred to one of its members (1.2)
- The impacton others in health and social care when an individual experiences significant life events (1.3)
Please ensure that you have not just described the possible responses/impact it needs to be an analysis. Use examples from practice and references to theory to support your analysis.
To achieve M2, the training materials need to be appropriate to the understanding of significant life events for the new carers have using a range of sources for information, correctly referenced using the Harvard Referencing System
To achieve D2 the training materials need to show the connection between individuals and the group they belong to through an analysis of the group responses to the significant life event
This task concerns your understanding of the range of support available to individuals experiencing a significant life event and your ability to analyse responses made by health and social care services to support individuals experiencing significant life events.
Relating to your case study and the significant life event you have decided to explore, you are required to report to the on the effectiveness of the service when supporting people through significant life events.
You will need to prepare a report that:
- Evaluates the effectivenessof organisational policies and procedures in supporting individuals and their social networks affected by significant life events (2.1)
- Explainshow others in social networks may provide support (2.2)
- Evaluatesthe suitability of external sources of support for those affected by significant life events (2.3)
- Analysesthe possible organisational responses to the need to support individuals experiencing significant life events (3.1)
- Makes recommendationsfor improving the support available in a health and social care organisation for individuals and their social networks when affected by significant life events.(3.3)
It is suggested that the best way to do this is to use your case study in task 1 of someone who has been supported through the significant life event they are experiencing. The report would cover what happened to them, in terms of support, from when they enter your health or social care situation/facility, what happens to them within the facility and when they exit.
The report is about the support and should not focus too much on the actual life event but the support provided or available. It should be supported by examples from the case study and references to appropriate theory taken from the available literature.
To achieve M1, you need to show that you have taken an effective approach to study by researching the support available from a wide range of services and individuals and made effective judgements about them
To achieve M3 your report will need to follow a recognised report structure that shows a logical and coherent development of the concepts in your analysis.
This task completes the analysis of responses made by health and social care services to support individuals experiencing significant life events.
The focus here is on your own personal contributions to the support of individuals experiencing significant life events. (3.2)
You need to prepare a personal reflection of your own personal contribution to the support of individuals experiencing significant life events. This may be from a workplace or personal experience. It is acknowledged that this may be difficult for you; therefore the content of your reflection is at your own discretion.
It is highly recommended that you use a reflective model such as Gibbs model of reflection
To achieve D1 your personal reflection report needs to demonstrate that you have synthesised your ideas to make justified conclusions
To achieve D3 the self-reflection needs to show that you have taken a structured approach to the evaluation of your contribution to the support of individuals who have had a significant life event.
Analysis of Significant Life Events
Health and social care organizations are always supportive to the significant life events affecting the people regardless of their age, race and religion (Ellsberg et al. 2015). Moreover, they also support the university researches and published data on the social issues. It always ensures that the organization is leading the social supports properly based on exact data and evidence on domestic violence (Womens Aid 2017). In this way, the organization will be able to provide effective support to Mrs. Jennifer Brown, as per the level of domestic violence.
The social workers of the organization actively listen to the survivors regarding the types of domestic violence they are facing. In such situation, women face difficulties and confusion in sharing their domestic abuse they are facing. In members of the organization actively listen to the survivor and provide effective support to the survivor (Foshee et al. 2015). This policy is high effective towards providing effective social support to the survivors. In the scenario mentioned in task 1, the organization has actively listened to the women and taken initiatives towards helping her from preventing domestic violence.
Towards supporting the individuals and the social networks affected by domestic violence, the organization work with local communities, schools and even football clubs. The organization believes in the fact that everyone can have some roles towards ending domestic violence. Through this policy, the community people help the survivors towards identifying the domestic violence and ask help to the organization (Huffingtonpost.co.uk 2017). In this way, the community friend of Mrs. Jennifer Brown had let the organization know about her domestic abuse.

Moreover, the intension of this policy is to provide specialist support to the survivors (Devries et al. 2013). Furthermore, the organization offers sustained independence and freedom to the affected women and social network.

Moreover, the support from the friends and families can boost the confidence level of the victims towards protesting the domestic violence they are facing (Michau et al. 2015). While considering the case of the task 1, the parent of Mrs. Jennifer Brown can support her a lot towards fighting against the domestic violence, she is facing. Moreover, her friends can also help her in protecting herself from the domestic violence. In this case study, the neighbor has supported her a lot towards protecting her from the domestic violence.

In case of Mrs. Jennifer Brown, the organization should immediately investigate her house and rescue the victim from the domestic abuse. In this intervention, the organization should call the police and arrest the drunken husband of Jennifer Brown. Moreover, the organization can also provide temporary shelter for the victim towards giving her safe environment.

Moreover, the organization can also measure the frequency of the domestic violence that she has been facing over the years. In this intervention, the organization can assist the Mrs. Jennifer Brown towards initiating legal proceeding against her husband for the domestic abuse.
The organization can also assist Mrs. Jennifer Brown towards returning back in her stable mental condition and back to her regular life work life. Moreover, the organization can also help the child of the victim towards overcoming the shock of the domestic violence (Cattaneo and Goodman 2015). The organization should offer counseling to both the victim and her child towards regaining their confidence level.
Offering Better Employment
The organization should provide better employment options for the victim towards making them economically developed. It can make her more confident towards protesting against the domestic abuses and make her child secure.
The organization should enhance the community awareness towards ending up the domestic violence and making a healthier community. On the other hand, the organization should also educate the community more against the severe impact of domestic violence.
The organization should provide more number of specialized services as per different types of domestic violence. Moreover, this specialized service can help the victim towards getting proper support for her domestic violence.
While concluding the study, it can be said that Women’s Aid has wide research and publication policy. It helps the organization towards initiating evidence based support. The organization also has education and public awareness policy, which educates the communities towards taking effective actions against domestic violence. Furthermore, the victim of domestic violence can get effective support from their friends and families and communities. In the case of Jennifer Brown, she got effective help from her neighbor. The possible response of the organization against the specific domestic violence would be primary intervention, secondary intervention and counseling. However, the organization should initiate more numbers of specialized supports towards helping the victim.
