Write the Key Ideas of Social Science For the Marxism Feminist Theory.

Gender biases in the workplace

Workplace is the platform where people gain lots of experience, especially if it’s their first job. During my work experience with my company, I learned and experienced many different things related to the general procedures, the projects to work on, how they are planned, developed and completed with targets and deadlines. I came across many different people and diverse workforce practices during the initial days at my workplace. One of the most notable factors that I experienced and observed in my workplace is the gender biases and unequal paying schemes. Though this has been a silent movement throughout the office since nobody got the courage to speak against this bad practice of gender discrimination and inequality in the workplace.

It has been long witnessed that the feminine gender has been subjected to a different altitude in the society from the time immemorial. I believe that the women in our societies have been suffering and experiencing discrepancies in their day to day life. From the beginning of time, every aspect of the feminine gender has been harassed both physically and mentally by the opposite gender. The root of the dominance of the male gender and the notion of the system of patriarchy in our society has affected the growth opportunities of the females in any of the industries in the current time. From my personal experience and from the different lectures regarding workplace inequality and feminism by Kate Moles, I believe that this is one of the heinous practices that has been prevailing in the society for a long time. One of the famous theory regarding feminism and inequality that can be used to analyze my experience regarding the violence of basic rights of the women at the workplace is the Marxist theory. According to this theory, the oppression of the women in the workplace is due to the role of rising capitalism. In his theory, Marx stated that the liberation of the feminine gender can only be reached and achieved by the restructure of the current capitalist economy where the women are being marginalized and are subjected to unequal pay in their workplace. Apart from the fact of the unequal pay, I have observed that there lie certain sexism in case of promotion and increment. Individuals who have worked really hard throughout the year without taking any other effort are often being rejected for promotion on the grounds of sexism towards any other employee or simply due to the gender. I have seen many people in the workplace with the belief that male employees are far more superior in case of calculations and financial accounts, project visit or client meets. This is because according to many in my workplace, men are far more intelligent and less vulnerable. Hence most of the time, the female employees in my organization are dumped with data entry work or associate works where they had to follow the orders of the male supervisors. During the time of year ending last year, I observed how the less experienced team lead was promoted to the assistant manager simply because the deserving lady of 5 or more years’ experience was pregnant. This is another of the worst scenario and practices that I observed which sharply targets the male-dominated society and their perceptions. Throughout my experiences in this job, I felt that women have always been viewed as the powerless gender whose main work is to make a home and take care of her family. Working for a woman is often seen as the optional or the need to support her family. The worth of a female employee is often noted and determined by the patriarchal male population in the organization and thus their probability of growth and success is hindered. Apart from the fact of gender inequality at the workplace, I have heard stories of assaults in my workplace from my colleagues who have been working with this organization for long. In my initial days, being a chatterbox, I used to talk with each and every person I met on my floor of the organization. Later I realized how some employees use words to backfire against my name in front of the management. Workplaces consist of lots of variety of people. I have got some of the lessons from my job that I will definitely keep in my mind throughout my life.

Marxist Feminist theory and workplace inequality

It is thus clear that the Marxism feminist theory is still relevant in the organizations of the contemporary society. Through my entire job experience till date, I realized some of the basic norms of survival in a private job place and understood the very fact that all colleagues in the workplace are actually not friends. Besides this, I totally disagree the practice of unequal pay in the organization I am working in. I believe that women and men should be on the same page and they should be provided with the equal level of opportunities for growth in their career. According to the theories of feminism, it is believed that true feminism needs to be supported since they fight for a genuine reason to promote equality among the two genders in all the fields of life, whether it be workplace or at home. Sometimes, I fail to understand that how a man with a dignity can insult and enjoy dominating over a woman. It is thus the need of the hour for assuring that all the men who enjoy the practice of dominance and power over the women whom they recognize as the weaker gender are shown that the old days are gone and in the current era these practices and action shall be recorded and subjected to severe social and judicial punishment according to the various laws related to gender discrimination at workplace and in societies. The practice of sexism should be abolished. I feel that the men who have been involved into the practice of discrimination and propagation of inequality among the genders should be ostracized socially and they should be handed to the strict judiciary for a punishment and a lesson they will remember all lifelong. I think these actions and initiatives will definitely fuel the feminist revolution in the world that will ensure in gathering momentum and making sure that each and every woman in the workplace is a subject to equality and non-discrimination and equal pay scheme. It is a fact that the concept of gender discrimination, sexism, and gender biases has been the essential factor that has blocked the path for development of the feminine gender in the organization in the world. The management of the organization should ensure the fact that the differentiation in the workplace should never be based on the gender but on the basis of the designation and the position the employees are working in. It has to be seen by the management that the females are never regarded as the weaker and discriminated sex among the two and are not the victims of unequal pay or restriction in promotions. I personally believe that the problem of equality of the feminine gender in the workplace is something that needs to be fought equally by both the men and women. It is the responsibility of the men to raise voice against the discrimination in the organization and show respect and gratitude towards the feminine gender. It is essential that men also involve themselves in making the workplace of the organization a safer and a better place for the females. The people of the workplace must have a free and open attitude and all the female employees should be given equal opportunity so that both the organization and the career of the employees move towards a developed and bright future.
